Atkinson Becomes 'Potter' Baddie

Rowan Atkinson is trying to overcome the depression caused by the critical mauling of his last film by becoming a villain - he's playing Lord Voldemort in the new Harry Potter film. The British 48-year-old star had to check into a rehabilitation clinic in America after last year's Johnny English was slammed by critics - even though it did relatively good business at the box office. However, the rubber-faced funnyman has decided to expand his repertoire by signing up for the part of evil Voldemort in the upcoming The Goblet Of Fire, which is due for release in 2005. A source comments, "Its a very major career change for Rowan. He has been looking to spread his wings and branch out into other roles. "He doesn't want to be the nice guy or the rubber-faced chap forever." Atkinson's character has previously appeared only as a spirit, but is brought by to life by "death eaters" in the Goblet Of Fire, which will follow this year's third Potter installment, The Prisoner Of Azkaban.

Lord of the Rings...what's the deal?
Time
The only person I ever felt sorry for in Helm's Deep was the one Elf leader (and I don't even know his name). Other than that, the battle was a lot more impersonal than Amon Hem.

I used to play swords or guns the same way, me and a handful of friends running around the neighborhood. I was the same with G.I.Joes. Always used my half dozen faves in a battle instead of all of them.

No guarantee that all seven will make it to film. But I'm sure Warner will juice the series for all it's worth.

As for Atkinson, according to IMDb, it's confirmed that he's Voldemort. I just don't know that I will be able to take him seriously in the role. It took me nearly a dozen viewings to get used to Michael Keaton as Batman after only seeing him in comedic roles. But he could be a better straight man in his comedic roles than Atkinson who I only know for goofy, slapsticky comedy. This is gonna be tough.

I agree on Amon Hem. Fewer effects. Much smaller scale. Both of which allow you to feel more emotion for those involved. Especially Boromir and then Merry and Pippen who watched him get killed. You suddenly see their Shire selves disappear as they witness the death of one of their own. It can be argued that the same happened when they saw Gandalf die. But there's just something more gut wrenching about seeing someone you know shot full of arrows while trying to save your life.

Who Have You Met?
Time
I started this thread because I was wondering what famous people you have met in your lives. And I don't just mean that you've seen them on the street... who have you stopped and talked to, gotten autographs from, taken pictures with, etc.

Me...

Lou Ferrigno (the original Hulk on TV)
Barry Williams (Greg Brady)
The guys from Jackyl (all five of the originals)

My brother on the other hand had a pretty cool time at a monster truck rally with Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee. They were attending as his guests (my brother works for Clear Channel who sponsors many of these events). Here's the proof...
