Lord of the Rings...what's the deal?
Time
I have heard Nimoy's song. One of our local stations played it once just for kicks. Weird, wild shtuff there, Ed.

I can't say that all the singing is bad. Some of it is good. And the few that made the movie were good. I especially enjoyed Pippen in ROTK singing to Denethor while Faramir goes to battle. That was so beautifully filmed. But if I had to sit through the Hobbits singing while hiking (a la Stand by Me) or have everyone singing around a campfire throughout the movie, I would probably get very angry. And we know what happens when I get angry, right, Mr. McGee?

DVDs of 2004?
Time
THX-1138 was announced on the Bits. And Final Countdown: SE is a must as well. For years, I thought I was the only fan of that movie and then I discovered the Bits and how fervently they follow the development of that flick on DVD. Very reassuring, I must say.

Time Bandits is already out. Apes would be a must own. Didn't know they were putting out an Anniversary edition.

I do think the movies stand on their own, but I also think some stuff is a bit confusing for those unfamiliar with the source material.

I had no problem with them when I went in knowing nothing about FOTR. I have several friends who went in blind as well and have had no problem whatsoever. Friends who have no grasp of the genre or the style.
