SE Trilogy on DVD coming this Fall
Time
Speaking as reigning postmaster around here, I love that so many of you are showing up and making your voices heard. I was worried as hell that only the regulars were around anymore. Great to have you here and it's incredible to have your support.

We are not done fighting. I'm pissed and frustrated and all that jazz, but I have only begun to fight.

In the words of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."

Now let's show Lucas that the fans are who matters. Let's remind Lucas that we are the ones who made him who he is. If it wasn't for our loyalty, our love, and, especially, our dollars, he would be just another hack Hollywood director.

Look on thedigitalbits.com for an update. Their editor Bill Hunt contacted Jim Ward directly and Ward confirmed that it's the 1997 SE.

Here's the link... SW Details

And here's the specific offending line...

I have officially confirmed that the films will be the 1997 Special Edition versions, as determined by Lucas himself.

Well, here you go... definite child of the hairband 80s and early 90s. Strongly influenced by one particular friend where I work who got me into Bjork and made me reappreciate INXS after my fandom of them had waned when Hutchence killed himself. The rest are music I got into myself. Chris Isaak was one of my hidden pleasures in the midst of my hairband mania. Nobody knew that I liked him or to what degree. Still think he has one of the best voices in music. And if I were influenced by my brother, I'd be into Whitney Houston and Meatloaf. He has no musical taste whatsoever. Not that those are bad artists. Don't want to insult anyone who likes them. I just don't particularly care for either.

Bill Hunt from thedigitalbits.com personally confirmed with Jim Ward of LFL that these will be the Special Editions from 1997.

Here's a link to the page... Star Wars details

And here's the actual damning text for those who don't want to bother with the above link...

Jay, if I can nab a copy of the OT from someone here on the site on DVD, I'm not buying the September release as well. Luke will probably help us out, but just in case, is anyone else here willing to hook us up? Patrick, your versions sound pretty damn nice as well. You willing to make copies for a price?

Sequel Trilogy? Say it's so!

You can't replace the original actors with new ones because it's just not right. And few, if any, of the originals (who showed their faces) will return for more. Fisher won't do it. Hamill doesn't show his face in front of the camera unless covered by a mask or makeup due to his skin graft scars showing. Ford likely won't although his recent career moves prove that he needs any boost he can get. Guinness is dead. Williams might return.

I'm assuming that what you mean by this is that we should buy the actual release as a resale (read: "used") copy so LFL won't see any additional profits? If so, then that really doesn't sound like a half-bad idea. Remember that you can do this with the Amazon Marketplace as well with people selling used copies there.

You wanna know what's really bad about all this? The official Reuters article -- which is what is circulating the web and newspapers, et al -- does not even mention anything about this being the SE release at all. To get that information, you have to go to theforce.net, TDB.com, or starwars.com (among others). But, after reading a Reuters article, how many people will actually go and do that? None. Practically none, that is. So no one really knows that what they're getting is the 1997 SE instead of the originals which is how they make it sound by referring to it as "the classic trilogy". This is going to mislead so many people.

What would be the best way to prove it to you? I have VHS copies of the first trilogy in pan and scan, the faces edition in widescreen, and the dreaded SE in widescreen. Would a picture of me holding them suffice?

And for anyone who wants to join in the negative campaign with me, I'm reabbreviating the SE to DSE for Dreaded Special Edition. My feeble form of protest.
