There is no way to alter events. A neverending loop is how I imagine Time travel works. You can't change to past. Destiny is the will of God and no time machine can change that. It has to happen because it already did. This principle is used in several Sci fi movies. Animorphs, Gargoyles, Timeline, and Kate and Leopold. Though the Terminator does it best. I personally think its more logical and probable then any past changing idea.

If this is how you feel, you really should read Michael Crichton's Timeline. From what I've heard, the way it's described in the book just blows away the movie. I've read the book and know that how he describes it all is really amazing. However, I haven't seen the movie so I can't make the comparison myself.

I thought Chicago was pretty damned good as a movie in itself. I will agree that it was not the best movie of that year, but I think it deserved it more than LOTR:ROTK did. Quite original and just a very well made movie. Despite starring Zellweger and Zeta-Jones.

I think I'm speaking for both Gundark and myself when I say that it's not as though we didn't like ROTK. We both liked it a lot. However, it was the weakest movie of the LOTR trilogy, far and away. I'm not sure which of the two is his fave, but TTT is mine. And most critics have agreed that while the action in ROTK is great, the story is lacking compared to the first two. So, why award the first film with the biggest award that the other two weren't even nominated for (I don't believe).

Take a look at the list of nominations... the film nominated was The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. It wasn't the entire trilogy. So the Academy should have voted with that in mind. If they want to reward Jackson, et al, for their cumulative efforts, then we have a special achievement Oscar for the occasion. With all the griping I've heard about the Oscars this year from critics, I can guarantee that the Academy has lost a ton of credibility as a result of this.

DJJD, you've never heard of Pig Latin?

It's the most basic form of codetalking used by kids everywhere. Okay, maybe not everywhere, but it's pretty widespread. When you say a word, instead of saying it the right way, you take the first consonant cluster in the word (or the first several letters up to the first consonant cluster if the word starts with a vowel) and move it to the end of the word followed by "ay" pronounced as a long "a".

For example, the word "scram" becomes "amscray".

People do talk like this. Usually kids, but they're people, too.

That's the whole paradox behind Terminator. John knows he has to send Kyle back or he won't exist. Kyle doesn't necessarily know this. In fact, it's likely he doesn't as it might put a bit of a strain on their friendship. It's a big mad cycle. He just keeps going back all the time unless he were to somehow be killed in the war in which case John would summarily disappear.

Are the millenneum falcon and x-wing the best ships
Time
We had a best ship's poll thread a while ago. Actually it was several threads, one for each type of ship (freighters, cruisers, fighters, etc.). We should bring those back to life now that we have all these new posters.

I'm a fan of the A-Wing, Correllian Corvette (Rebel Blockade Runner), Shuttle Tyderium, and a few others. But I do like the Falcon and X-Wings a lot as well.

I can agree with that. You're right. But, before the movies came out, I, too, was a non-lotr person. I didn't know anything about the trilogy outside of the names of the hobbits who went on the journey.

I guess, given enough time, anyone can become an LOTR person. I did. I love it now. And, as people become more familiar with the legend behind the movies and actually read the books and whatnot, their fave will likely change as well. Happened to most SW fans as they grew up and grew a deeper appreciation of the movies. ESB wasn't my fave until I was much older. ROTJ was the most crowd pleasing of the OT despite the first two being far superior movies. C'est la vie, eh?
