The Phantom Menace on 35mm (* unfinished project *)

If I were given one wish of another scene to keep from that print, it would be the first 10976 frames, (approximately—to consider missing frames) of reel 4 which would be the latter end of the pod race sequence. Yes, the sequence would be incomplete, but it would be the bulk of the scene and I would be grateful for that.

I don’t think there is any need to do that as we already have the theatrical Podrace in HD from the 2015 Digital Film Collection. The bare essentials that we would need from this (or any 35mm print) would be the Palpatine’s Office establishing shot (and surrounding shots) and Orn Free Taa’s senate aides.

1080p DNR links anyone? Tks

Same. I’ve been waiting on this since the dawn of time. 😃 If anyone would be so kind, I’d really appreciate it.

If you go back two pages, you’ll see this

The DNR-Versions are now up on Mega and Zippyshare. There is a smaller 7gb version on Mega with the extras and subtitles, while the uncompressed 42gb version is in 82 500mb chunks on Zippyshare. (jDownloader is the reccomended program to download it with)

As usual you can PM me to snag these files, as long as you own Star Wars in some shape or form. (Pog form is acceptable)

The Phantom Menace - Bobson's Theatrical Recontruction v2 (WIP)

Now armed with ZigZig’s PaNup SDTV source, I’ve updated the timeline to include it at a higher quality. The Palpatine’s office bit now fades in on both ends (Qui-Gon and Anakin/Jar Jar) and hopefully isn’t as noticable as a hard cut.

https://vimeo.com/294771071

I’ve also started on the subtitles, but am taking some creative liberties with them as to make them more eye-pleasing to me as it appears the subtitles are rather squashed, even when scaled back to how it originally should look. It’s now just the 69pt and -30 tracking, which looks better IMO.

Compared to what it would look like if it was closer to the Z Bootleg

Damn shame about this print, any chance you could get your money back or something as I’m sure this was a big investment for you and the backers.
I’d say that if you could get the exclusive footage from the theatrical cut like the Naboo Bridge or the human senate aides then do it, but if it’s toxic and could kill you, then don’t worry about it. Your health is more important to anything to us Potia. Hopefully the Attack of the Clones print doesn’t suffer the same fate.

Since you’re using the BR as a base, are you replacing CGI Yoda with Puppet Yoda, or is this going to be the theatrical edit with CGI Yoda (something I’d actually be interested in believe it or not)?

*JEDIT: Not to say I’m not interested if you’re keeping Puppet Yoda, I’ve just been toying with the idea of confirming the BR with its visual changes to the theatrical cut for a while now, something no one else seems to have considered.

I’ve noticed that there are a few other people in other threads and around the site that have wanted the theatrical version with the CGI Yoda (which I prefer to the strange looking puppet) but I’ll most likely make 2 versions of it. One with the puppet, and one without.

Here’s yet another HD Theatrical Version of The Phantom Menace. Why make one when at least 3 others are in the works by people more talented than myself? Good question.

Why also use the 2011 BR as the main source even though it’s riddled with the waxy over-DNRed look instead of the HDTV version? I’d say that you’re just full of questions today. The HDTV rip I have has burnt in subtitles in a very boring Calibri font and I assume the only way to remove them to add back some more theatrically accurate subtitles would be to patch that area with maybe the PAL DVD or maybe just use another HDTV Rip. Either way, I’ll do it later, for now, the BR will do.

Other sources include Althor’s LD preservation which will be used for the Naboo bridge, senate aides and Palpatine’s office shots. I’ve just used part of the bridge and aides shots and put them ontop of the BR shots, but for Palpatine’s office, I’ve just used the entire shot with some colour correction. Later on I will replace this with ZigZig’s PaNup SDTV preservation, as it is better quality, but for now, the LD is here.

Palpatine’s Office - https://vimeo.com/293678392
Senate Aides - https://vimeo.com/293680790
Naboo Bridge (not 100% yet) - https://vimeo.com/293679565

I believe I have the subtitles mostly accurate, as starwars.com made a “font announcment” when TPM was in pre-production

ITC Franklin Gothic Demi Bold, 69 point with -30 tracking

I haven’t got the actual scenes done yet due to me not having the exact timing and placement which I believe is in the “Z” bootleg (that I am yet to aquire), but just making a quick test makes it look about right. I also added the drop shadow, which is apparently either down and to the right, or just straight down. I’ve just made it down and to the right.

oh no anakin

will you make after this Empire " the Lando cut "?
there many lando shots out there, specially in the trailers.
short but many…

I haven’t seen many, but if there is enough significant scenes with Lando, I could yeah

no?
in the trailers are 4 scenes and in the bluray 1…

hmmmm…i thought there are more…😕

i´m working on a extended cut and i will ask if i can use parts from your biggs scenes in my version?
thanks

The only Lando scene I’ve seen is the Lobot getting captured one, but the deleted scenes database lists these

Lando three shots Old trailer (00:05) ***
First, you’ll see him coming up the top hatch of the Millennium Falcon looking around for Luke, then it cuts to him running towards a door and presumably trying to unlock it. Neither of these was in the original release, however for the Special Edition they added some new footage of Lando’s ascent/descent in the top hatch of the Falcon to make it look and work better.

Once I’ve got it rendered and uploaded, you’re free to use it however you wish.

It’s also a lot clunkier in the original script. The scene doesn’t show up until the 3rd draft and even then Biggs didn’t exist yet. I’ll have a look in Deleted Magic as well.

4th Draft (Shooting script)
BLUE LEADER: Are you … Luke Skywalker? Have you been checked out on the Incom T-65?
BIGGS: Sir, Luke is the best bushpilot in the outer rim territories.
BLUE LEADER: I met your father once when I was just a boy, he was a great pilot. You’ll do all right. If you’ve got half of your father’s skill, you’ll do better than all right.
LUKE: Thank you sir, I’ll try.

Final Shot Scene
RED LEADER: Skywalker! Are you sure you can handle this ship?
BIGGS: Sir, Luke is the best bushpilot in the outer rim territories.
RED LEADER: I met your father once when I was just a boy, he was a great pilot. If you’ve got half the skill he has, you’ll do alright.
LUKE: Thank you sir, I’ll try.

3rd Draft (unused)
BLUE LEADER: You’re Starkiller?
LUKE: Yes, sir.
BLUE LEADER: Have you been checked out?
LUKE: Yes, sir. I was considered one of the best bush pilots on Sullust. I’ve also had six hours on the T-2.
BLUE LEADER: Six hours, huh? Well, that’s your ship there. You’re blue five. You stay glued to me. I don’t want an independent operations out there. Personally I think it’s foolish for them to be sending fresh kids out on a job like this. This is no joy ride we’re going on.
LUKE: Yes, sir.

Fun fact: Sullust is a planet that was later seen in Rogue Squadron for the N64 and Battlefront II that is a volcanic lava planet that housed an imperial weapons factory which was later abandoned after The Battle of Endor.

looks intresting, but why you don´t use the complete deleted scene and use this guy as wipe to the movie scene…?

Is there a more complete scene out there? This is almost exactly whats in the shooting script. And there isn’t any reason to wipe from the guy walking past to the proper scene beacuse after he walks past there is still a lot more scene after this.

where´s this biggs calling audio from?

The Radio Drama, same place as I got the alt. line at the start of the third Biggs scene. I believe Adywan used it in Star Wars: Revisited as well.
