<strong>Moon</strong> - an appreciation thread : (2009 film by Duncan Jones) (<strong>NEWS</strong>)
Time

Agreed, Paja - this is a top film. It has a great atmosphere throughout and some fantastic visuals despite the low budget. I would advise anyone who plans to watch it at some point not to watch any trailers beforehand, since they contain far too many spoilers.

(Rather conveniently, the trailer link above seems to be broken!)

NJVC Custom Blu-ray Set of Harmy’s Despecialized Editions now available on Mega
Time

Take a look at the original NJVC bluray thread for some discussion on this:
https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Star-Wars-Despecialized-Editions-Custom-Bluray-Set/id/49995/page/60

I don’t think the VLC problem has ever been resolved. I can confirm that after burning to BD50, my standalone player coped fine with the disc.

Yes, exactly the same process except that it doesn’t just refresh ad infinitum on the terms & conditions page. Everything works smoothly except possibly for needing to give it a few prompts to send the activation code by email. Apologies that my post on the 8th wasn’t clear enough, and thanks for continuing to make these available on Mega.

What about changing the link in step 1 of your guide to this one?
Apart from the activation email being a bit flaky, it works well enough. Pressing the “resend” button a couple of times until the activation is sent is no big deal IMHO.

Wouldn’t that solve the problems, or have I misunderstood your post?

NJVC Custom Blu-ray Set of Harmy’s Despecialized Editions now available on Mega
Time

Many thanks again to Solkap for making these ISOs available on Mega.

I created a Proboards account ages ago and seem to recall having some issues at the time. I’ve had another go tonight at making a new account to see if I can replicate any of the aforementioned problems.

Here are some observations:

  • Using the first link provided to register for a “Global Account” (https://www.proboards.com/register), I also get stuck at the “agree to terms and conditions page” just as several posters have discovered. Clicking on the link to view the terms and ticking the box to confirm I have read them doesn’t help; the page just refreshes when clicking to finish the process. This registration link may be a dud as I can’t see how to get to it from the Proboards main page.
  • Using the link in step 2 instead and clicking on “register” does work, however. This appears to be registering for one specific forum only, namely “Swesbrotjbrmls”. I believe this is what worked for Alecthelm a few days ago.
  • Although this second link worked better, the activation email process was quite flaky. I didn’t get the email automatically, and had to click on the “resend” button twice before getting anything at all. (It wasn’t hiding in my spam folder either.)
  • Once the activation is complete, the new user should find they are automatically logged in to Solkap’s forum. In order to log in at a future time, it is important to enter the username, not the display name or email address.

Hope this helps.

Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1
Time

Assuming your problems are with the AVCHD (approx. 8 GB) release of RotJ, then you should find a checksum utility inside the directory. Hopefully this small program hasn’t been corrupted. Let me know if it has, and I’ll PM you a link to it. Have you tested the checksums of the ISO and MDS files against those provided in section 6 of the Ultimate Guide?

If the checksums match, all I can suggest is that you try a different extraction program. I use 7zip and have extracted all of Harmy’s stuff without problems.

If they don’t match, then go to the individual rar files you downloaded, obtain a SHA-1 checksum for each one, and PM me the details. I’ll compare them with mine and let you know which rar file(s) is corrupt. With a little luck you might have more success downloading the problematic file second time around. Otherwise, I shall stick it on Mega for you.

Also tried Jdownloader, tried compiling on a Win laptop, Win PC and my MacBook Pro. All the same results of those files having issues. I’m st my wits end as the ESB, ESB Docs, ROTJ and ROTJ Docs all compiled, burned and play fine.

Very mysterious. Are you downloading the files to a Mac or PC?
I am wondering if it might be some sort of cache issue. Perhaps your computer remembers you have already downloaded the file, and keeps reproducing the same corrupted version every time you try to download it again? (But then again I’d expect a new downloader program to start again from scratch…) Otherwise, I can’t figure out why others have successfully got these pieces from the same Mega link.

Hope you get it sorted.

Denoise, Regrain And CC of ESB Grindhouse (Released)
Time

Before this “dreamastered” version of the grindhouse, Dreamaster did a wonderful single pass colour regrade which I believe kept the grain and dirt largely (or entirely?) intact:

http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Single-Pass-Regrade-of-Grindhouse-ESB/id/52161

Being done in a single pass, the colours on this aren’t quite as good as in the more recent dreamastered version, but they’re a significant improvement on the original grindhouse nevertheless.

ESB v2.5 will be about 90% identical to v2.0 - I just want to fix a few shots and while I’m doing that, I will already do those in v3.0 quality.

Out of interest, which shots in ESB v2.0 are you most keen to update for v2.5?
And congratulations on working on Blade Runner 2049: “Impressive; most impressive”!

I’m not sure if this is the right thread for what I’m about to say, so if there’s a thread for something like this, please point the way!

Rewatching ESB for probably the 50,000,000th time, I actually noticed something weird about one scene in particular. Right when Darth Vader says “No, I am your father”, pay close attention to him. I can’t really describe what it is, but it’s the way he moves as he says that immortal line. It’s very subtle, but if you look closely, you’ll notice it.

I’m not sure if that’s David Prowse moving with the rushing wind or if it’s something from the editing process. And the only thing that comes to mind seeing him move like this is that it could probably be something called the “forward-reverse technique”. I say that because it reminds me of when the technique was used for the scene in that godawful “Batman & Robin” movie when Robin comes out of the water and goes right back in again. Only with ESB, it wasn’t as colossally (and painfully) obvious.

I don’t know if I’m the only one who sees this or if I’m just rambling about nothing, but if anybody has the answer to this, I sure would appreciate it because I keep thinking it’s a Special Edition change until I watched the Grindhouse Edition and noticed the subtle movement there. So I’m guessing it’s been there since 1980. So really, my question is what the heck it is?

After reading your post, I watched that very scene a dozen times but can’t see it… Vader just nods as he says “No”, and then again when he says “I” - all looks natural enough to me, including the movement of the cape in the wind. Can you be more specific about what looks wrong to you? I’m intrigued!

Crumbs - never noticed that before. Good spot. That slanting 0 looks weird now you’ve pointed it out! The RotJ Fox logo definitely looks a good deal cleaner than in SW & ESB. Perhaps Fox changed it sometime in between 1980 and 1983? However, I remember a discussion about a moving hair on the Fox logo in Team Negative 1’s SSE of SW which doesn’t seem to appear on DE 2.7, so that’s yet another version.

Hi Solkap,

Many thanks for your PM. No, I wasn’t referring the picture above, but rather to the supplementary guide (with checksums) for which you provided a link in the ROTJ thread:

Since you understand how to do checksum verifications, perhaps this page will help you isolate if there are particular files that are causing the problem:

https://goo.gl/mI0qtC

Star Wars DEED v2.5.1 appears in this guide (but only for the MKV) as well as 2.5.

JEDIT: Info kindly provided by HanDuet:

Version v2.5.1 replaces the buggy Spanish Latin Dub with a fixed version and adds Russian dub.
Subtitles from a newer version of Project Threepio (v9.0) are also included.

I heard about it from HanDuet.

I just stumbled across some new checksums in HanDuet’s supplementary guide, which relate to the aforementioned v2.5.1.

The supplementary guide can be found by following the link in section 6 (file verification) of the ultimate introductory guide. There is a readme file included with the release according to this, and I would be interested to see what it says without having to download the entire MKV too.

Please forgive me if the answer is staring at me in the face, but I am wondering what is new in “Star Wars DEED mkv v2.5.1”. I just stumbled across some new checksums in HanDuet’s supplementary guide, which relate to the aforementioned v2.5.1. As far as I can tell, there is no mention of this addition in the changelog of either the main guide or the supplementary guide, nor is v2.5.1 referred to in either the original post or last dozen pages of this thread.

If someone could post the contents of the included readme.txt file in this release (minus any download links which might be present, of course), I’d be grateful.

And a belated Happy New Year to everyone here!

Where did you get these from? I don’t know of any official format for Harmy’s work which is available in exactly 2 parts. As far as I am aware, whether in MKV, AVCHD or DVD5 format, they either come as a single file (torrent or download) or as a multi-part download (approx. 15-50 parts depending on the size).

Check the “ultimate introductory guide” in the first post of this thread for details.
