What to do with Mentally Ill People?
Time

If you scream at the top of your voice in a Church for fun it’s an offensive and probably breaks some kind of civil law.

If you make the same disruption because of a gallstone it’s not your fault. You need medical attention and probably a stay in hospital.

The brain is an organ of the body. The mind is an emergent property of the body.
An unwell mind or damaged brain is no different from an unwell gall bladder or a broken arm.

It is very simple really. All citizens are equal before the law. If you break the law you should be sanctioned. Mental health should not give one any privileges when it comes to the law. It should just determine whether you will be dealt by the criminal justice system or mental institution.

If you have a mental illness and do something out of character it shouldn’t be treated the same way as if someone just chose to do something.
Sometimes institutions are needed, sometimes not. It’s an act of injustice to treat the unwell in the same way as the well.

Mental illness is illness.

Anyone can become ill at any time and if an illness were to make you a risk to the life and limb of someone else you may need to be isolated from other people while receiving remedial care (which is something you can’t just leave to personal insurance to fund).
But at all times you treat the person with the illness with all the care and respect you would hope to expect if you or your child or parent was ill.

Health is a spectrum we all sit on.
Some of us are overweight, some of us have heart problems or breathing problems, some of us have cancer or infections. Some of us have poor mental health or one of a variety of mental illnesses or conditions.

So called ‘Anti-Political Correctness’ is being used by some as an excuse to be vile, rude and intolerant often to the most vulnerable people.
There is a history of this sort of thing. https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/blog/holocaust-memorial-day-remembering-psychiatric-patients-who-were-victims-nazi-persecution

The idea that your future was robbed by Trump is like a parody of the most insane anti-Trump people.

Here’s a fact: all rich and/or conservative people are inherently evil, and want all poor people to die.

This kind of crap is why no one on this forum likes you.

It’s the truth.
They are all evil.

Not all conservatives and/or rich people are evil. Some are, some aren’t.

For one thing Trump and the Brexiteers aren’t conservative. They are reactionary. But they are all evil, every last one of them.

I would try to argue the point with you, but I think that would be pointless. Not all Conservatives are evil.

Trump isn’t conservative. A conservative wants to maintain what exists and only change as a matter of last resort. Trump wants to roll backwards to a mythical better time. He is a reactionary. He is evil. his supporters are evil. All of them.

I agree with most of this, but I take issue with all Trump supporters being evil. Some of his supporters are just not very informed. Some are desperate. Some are blinded by party loyalty (ironic since Trump is not Conservative, as you said). Some are evil.

I would treat as separate Trump voters and Trump supporters. Lots of people voted for Trump to keep Clinton out. Both candidates were vile.
But people who actually support what Trump is trying to do, what he says, how he acts.
Every one of them is evil. The antithesis of good. And none of them are conservative.

If you want to eliminate evil you’d have to eliminate them but then you would be evil too.
Classic paradox.

Can Someone Explain the Map to Luke Skywalker?
Time

My theory is that the map the First Order have and Artoo has are the same and have the same hole in them because Leia (or Snoke as she is known in first order circles) gave the First Order all that she had and Luke withheld the missing section from his sister who he already knew to be corrupted by the dark side.
But that’s probably too interesting to be actually what was going to happen and now with Carrie’s death it might be difficult to put on screen.

The Star Wars Duology: Divergent Edition (AKA the ANH/TESB fan-edits DuracellEnergizer would like to make but probably never will)
Time

I’m all for unusual.
As long is Harmy is doing what he does until Disney does what it needs to do anything goes as far as I’m concerned.
Star Wars is all about whimsy (drunk Jawas, Gonk droids gonking etc).
Lucas screwed up by being the progenitor of the whole thing and giving us such awfulness in Jedi and the PT as the official versions but as fan edits have fun.
Frink certainly does.

The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

The whole ta’do about how the second Death Star got built so quickly could be solved by the Seperatists already making one by the end of ROTJ and the Republic making their own based on stolen plans.
The two could be confused in the chaos of the Galactic Empire rising so when the one in Rogue One got all blowed up the Empire just turned it’s attention to completing the other one.
Having Starkiller Base turn out to be Naboo would be a rather twisted way of turning the PT and the ST in on themselves.

I can’t see why there was so much of a fuss made here (I can’t read much of the posts either) but as this doesn’t stop us from seeing the official original versions that we can all purchase from Disney (not) I can’t see why changing anything should be a problem in a fan edit.

You’re in a desert, walking along in the sand, when all of a sudden you look down and see a tortoise. It’s crawling toward you. You reach down and you flip the tortoise over on its back. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can’t. Not without your help. But you’re not helping.
Why is that?

What’s a tortoise?

It’s a Sea Turtle teacher.
