The ANH:SE Redux Ideas thread (Radical Ideas Welcome).

Correct me if I’m wrong but Angel… Formally of this parish, hasn’t made an edit out of his work.
I was rather excited by the extended conference scene shown at Celebration. Another thing that should have been on the Blu-ray. I liked the implication that the Death Star is Tarkin’s power play, something that holds up in the other deleted material. Maybe Palpatine let the first Death Star go as a means of assassinating all his rivals. JeJerrod is a much more tame pet.

Loved the trailer, basically confirms that Luke is abandoning the Jedi for a balance.

Not sure how I feel about that. I actually really disliked how Legends started to take “balance” literally, and that the Jedi and Sith were merely philosophical differences, rather than how the Dark side was a tumour on the Force originally.

There’s no denying that the ‘Light’ side of the Force has issues as well, which is why it was only by recognizing the Dark Side that Luke was able to prevail in Jedi. The Jedi’s prohibition against some emotions and the dogma that they are impossible to overcome once indulged in was shown absolutely to be false. I for one appreciate the new direction this is taking.

But the Jedi Dogmatism was supposed to represent corruption in the Jedi (If we are to believe Lucas, who has had issues representing what he actually meant in the Prequels). The default state of the Jedi was supposed to be much more benevolent, but at some point they literally forgot their connection to the Force to use it as little more than a tool. Using the RotS novelization as a reference, Obi-Wan points out how the Jedi council in ages past didn’t bicker, but rather let the Force guide them to an answer, hinting that the Jedi lost their way.

In Jedi, that sequence was anything but Luke prevailing by channelling the darkness. If you look beyond Luke kicking Vader’s ass, the set up is that Luke lost control of himself because of Vader’s words getting to him; the music turns ominous, representing Luke going against what he stood for; and finally, when the fight ends, Luke is absolutely horrified at what he did. It wasn’t a triumph by finding “balance” between light and dark, it’s despair as our hero verges on becoming the monster he fought.

It could be like the Exorcist. Luke could be having a crisis of faith. He knows that the Dark Side is on the rise again so maybe he will come round to restoring the order with adjustment. Seeing the cultural vandalism in Rogue One it would feel like a victory for Palpatine if the Jedi were to blink out of existence.

Judge Dredd (1995)

There are some fun elements but it’s mostly stupid.

4/10

The only thing I remember about that movie is that they basically wallpapered every Taco Bell in America with Judge Dredd stuff for one summer in the mid-90s.

The Robot is good, Mean Machine Angel is spot on the city looks good. Max Von Sydow and Jurgen Prochnow are always welcome in my eyeballs. Everything else is crap which is a shame because the world of Dredd is perfectly designed and worked out and would make a great telly show or film series.

At the beginning of the 21st century, the Umbrella Corporation had become the largest commercial entity in the United States. Nine out of every ten homes contain its products. Its political and financial influence is felt everywhere. In public, it is the world’s leading supplier of computer technology, medical products, and healthcare. Unknown, even to its own employees, its massive profits are generated by military technology, genetic experimentation, and viral weaponry.

I’m starting the “quit smoking” process today. Anyone here gone through it want to share your thoughts on your challenge? I would think that knowing what others went through could be very helpful to me on all fronts.

Thanks.

I gave up cold turkey and put on so much weight I became practically spherical.

But cold turkey is so good! Especially in a turkey-stuffing sandwich. Mmm…

Not so good for the turkey.

I would recommend some kind of nicotine replacement therapy.
Let your metabolism adjust to lower levels rather than just drop it in one go.
Dropping smoking in one go is best though.
Your body will quickly feel better for the extra oxygen.

From a fan edit perspective it would mean making all Jedi saber blades blue in the PT and making Luke’s the first green one in ROTJ. If you wanted to add an obvious explanation you have to add it to the beginning of ROTJ The film could begin with Luke in his X wing with the familiar orange gas giant of Yavin in frame too. It could in the crawl explain that Luke completed his training with Yoda and that the Jedi master tasked him with one last test before his off screen death. As Luke meditates he hears Ben tell Luke he must face Vader again. Telepathically. When he comes to that point a tiny green crystal is retrieved. This would lead into Vader arriving at the new Death Star. An undoing of the victory of the first film. What the crystal does would be hinted at by the colour of Luke’s blade when he first ignites it and add some degree of sense to Vader’s marvelling at his son’s new weapon. As he had used the force to find the needle in the haystack of salvaged debris.

STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread

I don’t get why Luke is made out to be really young when he is exactly the same age as that Princess from Alderaan that secured those Hammerhead ships two seasons back.
I rather liked the episode.
Ezra looks like Snoke his hair like that.
The final two episodes were fantastic stuff. Much better than the prequels or ROTJ 😛
