I have the Chicken Run Blu-ray on my shelf.
I have the Chicken Run Blu-ray on my shelf.
You’re welcome! That’s the problem when there are in existence several editions of movies with different transfers/masters… But at least this BD’s not overly expensive 😄
Still available, got mine from amazon.fr :3
Well my screen’s a bit shitty when it comes to contrasts, it’s better that you don’t see anything. I don’t wanna ruin anything by pointing out this small detail (because it is one) :3
On another note, the upscale of the deleted scenes looks really good, and they fit very nicely into the movie’s narrative. And I really liked that Hal trimmed little bits here and there, it helps tighten the pacing (and removes stupid stuff).
Oh I know, I never meant for my comment to sound like "well go and change it and re-render it and re-upload it and tell the people that they have to download all over again the same thing because of one more tiny fix they won’t even notice" 😄
I happen to do some filming/editing myself (as a hobby) and I know what you mean, that at some point it has to be over (I’ve already revisited 3 or 4 times a shortfilm I made years ago, but now it’s done and I’ll never go back to it) 😛
Thank you for your dedication 😃
Well I guess my laptop screen is not contrasty enough, so it really is a minor, minor thing.
It doesn’t keep me from enjoying the edit, it’s like rediscovering the movie all over again 😄 You did well Hal(akin?). It was too mediocre to be kept like that :3
Hey Hal,
Thanks a lot for sharing with us this edit of ROTS which is, to my taste, the best I’ve seen (I think I’ve already said so earlier in the thread when I saw V3)!
I’ve just downloaded V4 of LOE and I launched the file; and (I’m sorry for this) I’m gonna have to be a little picky. The starfield at the beginning of the movie shows (although it’s not very conspicuous) the end of the (original?) crawl (I guess you made a snapshot from the movie to get a clean frame of the starfield).
I don’t want to come off as ungrateful or anything by pointing this out, as I absolutely love what you did with the movie! But as I said it doesn’t show a lot, so it’s not the end of the world at all (I’m excited to be able to watch the final version of a an edit that I love!) 😄
Thank you for what you did!
That’s how the novelization of TPM starts (might have been mentioned somewhere in the thread, I don’t remember). Always thought it made a nice alternative intro to the story.
I call it Star Wars, or "the first Star Wars" (depending on who I’m talking to).
Some people I know still call it La Guerre des étoiles, which I find quite refreshing. After all the French logo at the beginning of the movie was used until 1999 (yes, for the SE too, but not for TPM). The 2004 DVD’s introduced the English logo with the French crawl (I guess that’s the same for all foreign versions with a translated crawl).
The “problem” that arose was the following one: From then on, how to officially name this movie? The 2004 DVD’s tried (look at the logo)… I’ve always found this title shitty and inconsistent as ESB and Jedi didn’t have that problem (litterally Star Wars: Star Wars A New Hope, seriously? And at the bottom of the back cover (below the X-Wings) it even says Star Wars, Épisode IV : La Guerre des étoiles Un nouvel espoir). The 2006 DVD’s corrected that however, and just titled it Star Wars: A New Hope (with the Roman numerals in the logo).
But as I said, it’ll always be just Star Wars to me :3
The Dailymotion link is down, but the video can be found on Playwire (dunno how to get the direct link to the video though, so I’ll post the link to an article featuring said link): http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2016/01/15/star_wars_the_force_awakens_vfx_reel_shows_how_new_worlds_are_made_and_destroyed.html
You mean this one?

I don’t like people around me eating, drinking, laughing, screaming and talking.
That’s why I usually never go to the theatre (yes, I’m grumpy). Hope tomorrow there won’t be too much crowd.
H-12!!! 😄
I’ll be in Brest :3

I’m going to see it in French first for nostalgic purposes 😃 Then I’ll probably watch it again in English.
Plus, they seem to have put a lot of efforts and money into the making of this dub. Disney actually installed a retinal scan machine so nobody but the related crew can get into the studios. They spent about 80 grand in this gear. It’s pretty impressive how far they can go for anti-piracy nowadays.
Anyway, I’m watching this in Dolby Atmos so it’s all good! 😉
I’m gonna watch it in French on Wednesday at 10:40am (I’ve finally bought the tickets). And in English the moment they schedule it. I guess it won’t be that terrible in its dubbed version anyway :3 But I have no idea if Dolby Atmos or whatever. I won’t post my opinion about the movie (or anything at all related to it for that matter) until next week, I promise 😄
In what city will you watch it?
Damn! That’s proving my point indeed :p
How would you say it correctly then? :3
Where will the movie be released next Wednesday BTW (except from France)?
To get back on topic, I feel sad and torn about the way I’m gonna watch the movie: DUBBED… Or I could have a four-hour two-way drive to watch it in English, but in 3D only.
That’s the price to pay when your contrypeople have a reputation of being not good at foreign languages, leading to systematic dubbing of movies (but I ain’t saying I don’t like this country, au contraire) :3
Problem is that in smaller cities (like the one I live in) non-dubbed movies are not always an option.
So will it be:
-Not dubbed but in 3D, by myself plus a four-hour drive
-Or much nearer to my place and with a friend but in French and in 2D?
The question remains… 😄

So Bewy did his work super quick and had his translation done in no time. However, I had to do the easy job of simply making adjustments to make the translation to English more accurate...and I took a very long time. But I finally finished my task, and Bewy incorporated it into a pdf, and so here we finally have the rules to Dejarik in English!

Seriously, Bewy did an amazing job and I am so thankful for his work and patience with me. Many thanks to him!
The inventor of these rules states that he hasn't tried out the advanced rules much, so if anyone else gives it a try and finds problems, he said he was open to suggestions.
I think "Première partie" is nice.
Or if you're not sure try something like maybe "Premier chapitre" or "1er chapitre"?
You still forgot two accents (at "RECONSTRUCTION DE LA VERSION CINEMA ORIGINALE" and "PREMIERE PARTIE DES AVENTURES DE LUKE SKYWALKER") :D
Enough of this! Bewy, stop picking on him!
As for the cover themselves, both are really fine; and the second one has a nice retro feel with all those translated names :D
Double post, sorry :3
And when Obi-Wan first mentions him in the Cantina, he calls him Chiktaba (in the French dub) :P
Nice job! But I thought: If you put Yan Solo, I guess you should change C-3PO to Z-6PO, shouldn't you (yep, French too)? But that said the text is really fine, just a few (infinitely minor) errors, but I'm a nitpicker, so... ;)
Errors like missing accents or typographic signs, no biggie: "Installez-vous" instead of "Installez vous", maybe "déspécialisée" instead of "déspecialisée" and "Étoile Noire" instead of "Etoile Noire". Also you wrote "Chewbacca Yan Solo, et les deux inoubliables etc.", maybe change that to "Chewbacca, Yan Solo et les deux inoubliables etc."?
Like I said I'm a grammar nitpicker, and I hope I don't come across as a pedantic ass**** trying to undermine what you did, which isn't what I wanted. I'm just trying to help :3
I've updated the French subs for the documentary:

The right word for aliasing just popped into my mind before sleeping :3
De rien ;)
And thank you Harmy for the doc and SW Despecialized!
