What's Your Favorite Version of the Krayt Dragon Call?
Time

The moment someone says he shouldn't do something - whether it be peers or fans - he makes it a priority to do it. The NOOOOOO, the new dragon call, etc - the more the fan base gets upset, the more he shows them who's boss. At this point in the history of the franchise, to me, it's the only logical explanation.

In that case, the sadistic side of me wants us all to carry on complaining just to see how much more he can mess these movies up. Afterall, the damage is already done. Might be kind of funny....

Digitally inserted 9-year old Han in ROTS, anyone?

But, surely, it's not supposed to sound human is it? It's supposed to sound like a Krayt Dragon. Isn't that the point?

The new version is awful. To me, it just sounds like some guy who recorded himself shouting something......then played backwards. Very cheap.

I think this is just one of those things that didn't need changing. And the change hasn't improved it at all.

Yoda: CGI vs Puppet
Time

Frank Oz is a skilled master of puppetry. To replace his work in the OT with CGI would be sacrilege (I thought it was bad enough that Lucas replaced his work in TPM, but the puppet itself was pretty awful).

In the OT, Yoda was clearly intended to be a purely philosophical character –a wise mage and guide for Luke. It was not until Lucas made the PT and discovered the near-limitless potential of CGI that he decided to change the character and make him more physical.

This was arguably a change for the worse. These movies have shown, maybe above all else, that Lucas performs best when his creations are subject to physical restrictions.

Alternative Star Wars Movie Titles - Keep Checking the First Post!
Time

Never liked 'of the' titles, as they are lazy and don't fit with title structure created by Ep 5 (The Empire Strikes Back, not Strike of the Empire!)

As titles go, Return of the Jedi/Attack of the Clones/Revenge of the Sith are about as bland as they come.

The Phantom Menace is actually one of my favourites, as its meaning is not entirely obvious (is the 'menace' Palpatine or Anakin......or just the general darkness that is to come? Or maybe all of these things).

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

Since the Blu-Rays suck, everyone should just give Adywan the $100 bucks they would've paid for the Blu set, so he can finish up this and ROTJ, then do the prequels too.

That would certainly be the ideal situation. Personally, I will (and have done so far) donate £10 for each movie.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

We have a new Jabba the Hutt that’s so much better than the old one I had to work with. I mean, that one wouldn’t act! It was just a big old rubber thing. But now I’ve got one that’s very articulate. It’s speech is fantastic - the lip-sync is great. The tongue is great, the eye movement - everything!

LOL!!!! XoD

The '97 Jabba was a big CG turdfest.

Interview With Richard Marquand Director of Return of the Jedi (June 1983)
Time

Somewhere floating around on the net is an old newspaper interview (from before ESB's release) in which Prowse announced that Vader was Luke's father. But various sources have stated that Prowse wasn't privvy to this information during filming. So, was it just a good guess?

Anyway, Prowse was indeed blamed for a leak and side-lined from many important scenes in ROTJ (which made use of a stand-in in the Vader suit).

Wasn't Marquand simply Lucas's puppet? I understand that after his absence from the ESB set, Lucas insisted on having a very strong presence on the ROTJ set. I believe that Lucas regretted being away from the ESB set (the control freak that he is). Hiring a puppet director was his way of ensuring that ESB didn't happen all over again.

Star Wars Inconsistencies
Time

Just a quick list of things that bother me about the consistancy (or lack of) within the saga:

1) "THE Jedi who trained me" - Obi Wan says this to Luke in reference to Yoda. But the PT shows that Obi Wan was Qui Gon's Padawan learner. Ok, Yoda could have trained him as a youngling, but the word "THE" instead of "A" seems to imply otherwise.

2) Leia having memories of her mother, even though she died in childbirth.

3) Owen/Obi Wan having no memories of Threepio/R2. And R2 having no memories of Tattooine or the Lars family.

4) "A thousand generations" vs "A thousand years".

5) Obi Wan telling Yoda that Luke was their "only hope", even though he witnessed first-hand the birth of the twins. Maybe the original plan was to have Obi Wan only have knowledge of one baby?

6) The massive variance in fighting styles between OT and PT.

7) Luke having dream-like feelings (memories?) whilst on Dagobah. Ok, not really an inconsistancy, but the dialogue seems to point at something that maybe should have been expanded on in the PT.

8) Vader trying to convince Luke to join him to overthrow the Emperor, then changing his mind and saying that he "must obey" his master. Why such a sudden change of heart?

9) The original Death Star taking 20+ years to build, whilst the second only took several months (even though it is MUCH larger).

10) Obi Wan telling Luke that his father wanted him to have his light saber when he was old enough. I don't buy this as another lie. It was something that should have been shown in the PT, but wasn't.

11) "I will become more powerful than you could possibly imagine" and then........nothing.

12) "Idealistic crusade" - what exactly? The Clone War was not a conflict based on idealism. And "crusade" seems to imply a conflict based on religion. You could argue that this refers to Jedi vs Sith, but this was never made public knowledge (the general public do not know the true nature or identity of the Emperor).

The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread

When I heard Liam Neeson had been cast, I was excited. But I also believed Lucas was drawing a lot from his 1st draft of star wars.... Anyway, in that draft, Anakin has a father named Kane Starkiller.... I thought maybe we were going to get Kane Skywalker father of Anakin. Oh well... Instead we got a Jedi master that was so important that he should have been mentioned in 4-6.... But alas, he's not.... Anyone remember when Lucas said he wrote the prequels 20 or so years ago... =/

How about renaming Qui Gon as 'Obi Wan'. And renaming Obi Wan as 'Kane Starkiller'? It would then be Obi Wan who discovers Anakin (in keeping with what is suggested in ANH) and Kane could be Obi Wan's 'other' apprentice (the one hinted at in ANH).

This would help retain the surprise of Vader being Luke's father, as the audience would think that Ewan McGregor's character is the one who becomes Vader and kills Anakin.

A simple bit of dialogue replacement is all that would be needed to achieve this. And a re-edit of the ending, so that Liam Neeson (Obi Wan) survives the fight with Maul. And remove any references of McGregor's character becoming Anakin's mentor.

Of course, this would be impossible to carry on into AotC and RotS. But it would help eliminate the unecessary character of Qui Gon, whilst strengthening the Obi Wan character and retaining the surprises of the OT.
