Info: Re-mixed audio tracks on video releases

Well as some of you may know Wizard of Oz is being rereleased on video this year for like the 600th time!! :P Unlike the last couple releases which included a 5.1 track and the original mono track this release only features the 5.1 drops the mono track. Is this a loss?? Were changes made for this film's 5.1 track?????

Not really. The 5.1 mix is made of 3 parts:

1. Restored mono track

2. Isolated orchestra angles

3. Isolated music and effects track

Out of all of these, there is but one change found only on the mono track and that is the removal of Judy Garland's stutter around when she says "Oh, Toto!" in Kansas. And really? They are removing the mono track for the 3d rerelease this year? What's your source?

Info: Recommended Editions of Disney Animated (and Partially Animated) Features
Time

Today, I got "The Jungle Book" on Blu-ray (FYI, blu-ray.com states that USA gets "The Jungle Book" on Blu-ray February 11th, 2014) and I gotta say it might be a better Acceptable Alternative over the 2007 Platinum Edition DVD. What I don't get is that on "Oz the Great and Powerful", there is preview for "The Jungle Book" Diamond Edition that's in 1.33:1 (the footage from "The Jungle Book", I mean.). Why, Walt Disney Pictures? Why lie?

Slightly off topic, but is there anybody else who has "The Jungle Book" on Blu-ray?

Ok, after some research, here's what I could find on "The Wizard Of Oz":

LD: Some (if not all) LaserDiscs are mono (like the 50th Anniversary Edition), others were fake (credit for info: skyjedi2005) stereo (like a Japanese release with reference number G98F5545).

DVD: Dolby Digital 5.1 for the simple release, original slightly altered (credit for info: SilverWook) mono included in the Collector's Edition and the 70th Anniversary Edition.

BD: Both Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and mono sound is available on all official Blu-rays.

Hopefully Eloitt says 'penis breath' ;)

I have the official (anniversary edition) blu-ray and I'm here to confirm that Elliot does indeed say "Penis breath". Slightly off-topic, but that is the weirdest insult I've ever heard.

It is a way of saying cocksucker in a pg movie

OK, makes sense now.

Regarding Planet of the Apes: I just checked my copy of PotA and you know what I didn't find? The mono audio option. Having the original mono on the PotA BD must limited to USA (Can somebody back me up on this?). Also, no isolated score on the original, just the sequels (at least on my copies).

And now for something completely different: what about Tron?

Disney's 'Beauty and the Beast' - special project (* unfinished project *)

Hi everyone. Based on this image sample, which version of the Blu-rays do you think has got the closer colour match from the original ?

Thanks to answer

Well, all I can say is we need to preserve the LD version ASAP. If I had a LD-player, I'd buy this (along side the 1997 special edition of Star Wars).

Well, I recall watching this movie on VHS in my childhood, and just recently I saw the special edition. (BTW, typing that just made me realize that maybe Disney has thinking like George Lucas before they bought Lucasfilms.) If you want to preserve the colors of the 3D-edition, at least mux both the left AND right sides and compare them to the 2D-version. If you compare both sides to the 2D-version, you will (hopefully) see which side is the closest to the 2D-version.

7.1 vs 5.1 vs stereo vs mono
Time

Hello, everybody.

We all know the changes GL made in the special edition(s), both the visual changes and audio changes. But I wonder what's the difference between the mixes? The official Blu ray claims to have 7.1 surround sound, but since I don't have a 7.1 surround set-up, I can't confirm it. So, for those of you that have that kind of set-up hooked up to your Blu ray-player, what does sound like? Is it simply a up-mix of the 5.1 mix from the DVD or is it a new mix altogether? And, while I'm at it, is the 5.1 mix from the DVD a up-mix from a stereo mix? Can someone help me?

For those of you who have not seen the un-aired pilot, here's the opening narration word-for-word:

Water, earth, fire, air. My grandmother used to tell me stories about the old days. How the four nations once lived in harmony. How everything changed once the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar mastered all four elements. Only he could stop the ruthless firebenders. But when the world needed him most, he disappeared. Nobody had seen him for a hundred years, until my brother and I found him: an airbender named Aang. The problem is this Avatar is still a kid and even though his airbending skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he's ready to save anyone. The Fire Nation will do anything to capture Aang before he masters all four elements. So, I must keep him safe until he is ready to fulfill his destiny. My brother thinks I'm crazy, but I believe Aang can save the world.
