Time

I think I'm cutting the Prologue out and just making it a deleted scene of sorts in the bonus features.

The senate scene was completely cut originally. I inserted that scene so we could avoid the whole kamino thing. I guess that's why the tongue thing was weird. I couldn't cut it without ruining the flow of the music.

The imperial march will fit in better once I rework it.

R2 in canyon scene will be replaced. And I think I might just cut the whole stuff inside of the Jawas' place.

By long transition did you mean the long amount of time between the cuts? Originally I was gonna have it be shorter but I had been talking to ID about it and he said that things could get a little confusing and hard to follow if it was too fast. You raise a valuable point with the "Wait what time is it now? What happened last?" Someone had mentioned earlier that they thought a sepia transition would be needed to make things a little more clear. I'm going to go with the Sepia transition so it'll hopefully make things eaiser to follow.

Music in Ben's hut will be turned down.

I thought the cantina scene was a necessary parallel to draw. This whole edit is mostly for the sake of parallels than to just show everything at once.

The alderaan sequence was something I had a lot of trouble wrestling with. The shortened version is kind of too short I find and the fact that the planet is destroyed in a split second makes it harder to grasp in my opinion. The lengthened sequence also makes it easier to tie into the PT and I think this is VERY important due to the fact that the PT is integrated into the OT with this project.

The new music during the remote sequence was meant to show how the Force is a mystical thing and something that isn't fun and games. The dark music as the end was meant to transition into the scene that follows it. Maybe I can rework that part, I'll look into it.

The Droid factory sequence will be removed and replaced with them just being captured.

Dialogue during the fight scene is hard to hear, I'm gonna fix that.

I'll see what I can do with the Falcon's blast off.

A few questions on my part:

What did you think about the flashbacks to ROTS during the scene of Ben in the hut?

What did you think of the Round Table sequence transitioning to the Jedi Council sequence and the new music in both scenes?

I want to have very fast flashes come to Vader's mind once he says "a presence I've not felt since..."

Also, I want to have a sequence of Anakin and Qui-Gon's talks and Qui-Gon addressing the council come in after Obi-Wan and Anakin talk in the hut. I'm gonna use the PM scenes where Anakin has his trials with the council and the whole "Fear leads to anger" thing come in after a degobah scene and then Obi-Wan's scene with Yoda and then his scene during Qui-Gon's funeral with Anakin come in during the earlier scenes of the last film. I also felt something was missing and I thought it was Anakin's initial training to be contrasted with Luke's training in the OT.

What did you think of the music transition from Obi-Wan's duel to the slow-mo sequence? Also, I feel the start of the music from Luke and Leia talking needs to be delayed as their speech comes in first.

Besides that there's only like three technical errors I need to fix. Should be able to get that done before the end of the summer so I can get to work on the DVD.

For TPM flashbacks I'm planning on making it kind of golden so you know it's out of the parallel timeline. Things from the better times are yellow, and things from the darker times are dark red. Did you notice the rots scenes? I also kept the saber's blue while the rest was reddish.

EDIT: So I meant to say that the colour correction wouldn't make a difference with TPM. But I plan on redoing the three in the future in HD once Blu-Ray burners are available.

Ady sort had a similar problem when he previewed an incomplete section of ESB:R and told everyone that it was incomplete and he only wanted to show it to illustrate a particular point and a he got comments saying how wonderful it was and detractors saying how it didn't look too good (completely missing the point that it was incomplete and not to his high standard but illustrating a particular point during a work in progress).

Whenever you let something out into the wild, it doesn't matter how many disclaimers you attach to it or how much you insist it's not up to your standards, some people will ignore what you say and either praise it to the hilt and incorporate the ideas, even the elements you haven't finished working on into their own work regardless or they will slag it off for not being what you never said it was in the first place.

It's an inevitable consequence of showing your work, George Lucas has to put up with it all the time.

Fan editing is a cannibalistic artform and that extends not just to the original film makers and us but also between ourselves, it helps if we are polite and supportive of each other.

I'd like to see both Reborn and Renascent and with better quality sources becoming available I'd like to see this basic ingenious idea reworked with materials other people have worked on too.

Attribution is the least and possibly the most we can ask for, if an idea comes from someone else it's just good manners to give credit where credit is due and say thanks for the work of others that make other projects possible.

If helping someone doesn't appeal why throw rotten fruit when you can just walk away?

On the whole the people on these boards support each other and openly share ideas and that makes this place a really creative and fun place to visit.

*Applauds* Well put!

If ID gave you permission than I apoligize,  I'm just speaking for myself here and not ID. I would have rather not seen them used at all.

I'm sure this is in the reborn thread somewhere but I'll post it again.  ID and I quit because we were burned out plain and simple. We put in a ton of work on reborn and just couldn't get the results we wanted. We didn't want to release anything that wasn't of the highest quality and what we had done so far most certainly was not.

I changed jobs in January of this year which has kept me very busy (not to mention the wife and kids!).  ID has many things going on in his own life, one of which is being heavily involved in his Kingdom of the Crystal Skull edit, which could be the most highly anticipated edit since ANH: Revisited. :)

I still have everything from the project sitting on my hard drive including a newer cut of anh/aotc that ID did later. Some of the stuff ID has come up with for this project really is brilliant.

Will reborn ever see the light of day?  Who knows. I'd love for it to, but not if we have to release a sub-par version.

My suggestion to A-Man would be to delete what you downloaded off of the internet and re-create those scenes. When you release the full qualtiy version in December those scenes will stick out like a sore thumb because they weren't uploaded in full quality.  Use them as a template and nothing more.

Thanks for the suggestion. Two of the scenes you edited can still work however. The love scene and the Chase Scene. I worked on their resolutions and quality and got them to fit. The Chase Scene needs a lot of audio work though which I plan on doing. I think those might actually be the only scenes I used. The prologue I don't even want to use to be honest. People just wanted it in there so I figured I'd patch things up and leave it in a sub section of the bonus features.

He didn't stop because I was making one. I decided to make my own take once he dropped his. Other people have done their own versions too. This isn't Star Wars Reborn, this is my own take on the idea. When I get back into London, I plan on fixing what needs fixing, rendering it and then working on a trailer. If you want trailers, wait at least a month or two. Then they will start streaming in. I promise.

But I was given permission. Check the Reborn thread. And again, the low quality was intentional. 46fleetline, have you even been reading my posts? That upload was for people to get an idea of the story, the feel and the editing I was going for. This isn't meant for people to discuss the quality. I know it is low definition! I did that on purpose so people don't have to download a 5gb HQ version now and then again in December. How are you going to get a feel of the story, editing and style through a few screenshots? You wanna know what the finalized screens will look like? Look at the source material. The AOTC and TPM DVDs and Adywan's ANH. I'm not remastering anything so the screens are just meant to give you a warning that the quality of this version is low, and if you want perfection then wait til December.

i myself don't wanna sound like i am hammering you, however, still very excited to see final work.

my point is, if ID had trailers out already and kickass editing done for those trailers, just trying to figure out how you jumped in there and he shut his down. if he lost work due to a cpu crash, i understand, that sucks. however in 2 yrs, and the best we can get is a shotty ruff draft from you, then i would assume, maybe you bit off more than you could chew?

again, no offense, just making the case, if you volunteerd to continue his work but with a twist, and after 2 years, i would have let him redo his, if he felt like it, because i'm sure in 2 years time, he may had enough push to start again and be done by now.

Here's the thing though, you haven't even watched the edit and you are making assumptions. I said I'd do a trailer once I was finished the edit. I want to work off of one file for the edit as opposed to scavenging through three movies to make one 2 minute clip. If you want to tell me I can't do it, fine whatever but please don't if you haven't even watched the rough copy. The rough copy is there so you can get an idea at what I'm going for based on story, editing and style. The quality is there to act as a reminder that it isn't the final draft. The final draft will be in High Quality and 5.1 Surround sound. And me doing this edit does not mean ID can't do his. I was waiting and waiting and it was taking a long time because I'm sure they both have lives. I haven't been too busy in the last year so I figured I would try my own take.

Ah, but think of it this way: putting his son before himself like that is an act of selflessness ("not for him, but for his son") which in fact causes Anakin to become the good man that - presuming the PT to be true - he never really was.

Just a thought. Personally, I'd probably never watch an edit that incorporated PT footage into OT footage like that, but if you were to do an edit like that, this could be one "spin" to put on it: a non-redemptive motive results in a redemptive act of selflessness.

I'm doing what was illustrated in the Novelization of ROTJ. When Darth Vader sees Luke being electrecuted he is reminded of Shmi, Padme, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. I'll be using flashes of people he loved for his redemption not bad things he's done, but good things.

Yes, The Bingowings you listen...

My personal feeling is that 3 hours and 38 minutes is far too long to ask of an audience in a single sitting, Primarily I'd be suggesting ways to cut this down to a fair and reasonable runtime. I'm also making notes in general. I should say right here that this may come across as overly negative but I'll try to be as costructive as possible. [I wont be watching this in a single sitting]

* This is probably an encoding error but the aspect ratio seems WAY wrong. Is it meant to be Anamorphic?

Prologue //

maybe it would have been best to start with the Ian McDiarmid speech? It sums things up better [and quicker] than a vague quote and a scene with 3 random guys fighting. - Random from the POV of a first time viewer.

If you want to show the "great despair" - maybe showcase elements from several battles where the "bad guys" have the upper hand [or high ground if you will.], then the focus would seem to be on the emphasis of the opening qoute and tie in nicely with Ian's Monologue.

The only way I'd see the opening duel having significance is if we saw it again later in an expanded fashion, but it already seems expanded here, Honestly [and this is only my opinion] almost all of the fight just seems like a detraction from the story rather than a setup.

I would strongly suggest using the scenes following the main title logo as a Prologue of sorts [or cold opening] before the main titles.

Are you planning on including subtitles for the Nemoidians? - It's a long time to watch their back and forth without having any idea of what they are saying or implying, which basically makes their talky scenes boring AND pointless - since we don't learn anything the plot sort of stumbles for a bit. - I fail to seen the point in redubbing them if the scenes still play out in the same fashion - redubbing would allow freedom and flexibility i would think, and that opportunity is kind of wasted here.

Again it feels like there is much padding here between the scenes that matter to the plot. You don't explicitly show the Queen travel to Coruscant - she is in one place, then we see a ship arrive, and we see her in another place. Would it be simpler to simply imply she is already on Couscant - and trim her out of the "occupation of Naboo" scenes?

I like the idea of cutting back to the Naboo politicians conferring before the senate meeting.

* I notice that the colours during certain scenes [flashbacks?] bleed out into the black bars quite a bit.

When we first see Anakin we also see a lot here featuring Quigon, Who already died in the Prologue - this makes things a bit disjointed - and this is NOT presented as a flashback as you've set up a style to denote that, which is NOT present here.

* looks to be some sort of error on the Maul reveal shot - there's a flicker of his face, close up as the doors are opening..

Again we haven't really met Darth Maul [as the sith apprentice they make refernce to] before we see him here. So he's kind of just a face.

Why are we seeing studio logos 24 minutes into the movie? - that's a bit out of pace isn't it?

The cuts between time periods are also beginning to get quite jarring, imo.

That's all I've got right now, I need to take a break.

Thanks for the suggestions! They are highly appreciated. The prologue will be cut down and the jarry editing will be fixed. The prologue will only be featured as a bonus feature on the DVD for people who still wanna see some TPM scenes but as I mentioned before I'm going to start including them anyways so the prologue will just be there as a kind of deleted material in the special features.

While using someone else work without permission is bad form, it is in essence what everyone does when they do a fan edit.

It would however have been better to have reconstructed those elements rather than taking them and dropping them straight in while still giving ID and TJ a credit for inspiration.

The only thing is that I WAS given permission to use the scenes. They assumed I would patch them up and they are right. I just haven't gotten to that yet.

i hope info gets back in the game, can't stress enough how i like his edits too.

Me too. :(

I'd also like to stress again that the scenes from Reborn that A-man used were not finished!  The prologue for example was cut in half and I think would have eventually been cut all together.  There is a newer cut of Reborn that was completely different from what ID outlined.  Sadly I don't think it will ever see the light of day.  Especially now.

You guys have no idea how I wish I would have never uploaded anything.  It's a mistake I made that won't happen again.  It makes me sick to think that the scenes we worked on are being shown in this way and for that I blame you A-MAN.

You knew they weren't finished and we didn't want them included. You choose to ignore that and use them anyway.  Thanks alot dude.

Apparently people are watching clips without reading my posts. I mentioned that this is a ROUGH OUTLINE. I'm still working long and hard on this. I guess info didn't tell you this or maybe you don't remember but I was given permission to use the clips. I also said I am going to rework the prologue as it seems way to choppy and long and then it will be included as a bonus feature. The scenes you guys edited are also going to be reworked as I said way back when you first stressed his point.

To those of you saying that this edit sucks do to it's quality, I guess you don't know how to read because both me and Ripplin have mentioned numerous times that the version released online at this point has low quality so that people don't decide that they only wanna download one 5GB file. The 700mb version is only there for people who are very curious. The edit is still in the works and again THIS IS A ROUGH OUTLINE WITH LOWERED QUALITY. THE FINAL PRODUCT WITH THE HIGH-RESOLUTION AND 5.1 SURROUND SOUND WILL BE RELEASED IN DECEMBER AS IT WAS ALWAYS PLANNED. IF THIS VERSION TURNS YOU OFF DO TO QUALITY OR JARRY EDITING THEN PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTIONS OR REASONS BEHIND WHY THIS WAS DONE.

Ripplin, if you know how to make Xvids or MKV's, could you convert the video to a video that's half the size of the HQ file that I sent only for you? Maybe then people won't be destracted. Otherwise, people will have to wait til December.

It's four hours including credits and the prologue. Otherwise it's like three hours. I plan on using young annie in parts 2 and 3. Especially because it could reveal him being evil later on in his life. His trials will be shown in the intro to Part II. His scenes with Padme will be inserted in Part III. I'll watch through TPM again and find some scenes I could use. I see Part I as more of an intro to the real story being parts II and III of Renascent.

If you want to show Anakin and Padme captured why not cut to the chase and just show them being captured, you don't need the the droid factory at all just Anakin and Padme entering the lair and perhaps Jengo and the battledroids and replace it with the deleted conference table scene and trial.

That way you don't have to balance a bad CGI Threepio head swap against footage which shows a physical Threepio missing an arm appeating in the same cut (the two hardly resemble the same character).

The droid factory sequence adds nothing to Luke or Anakin's strands of the story in this new context, we already know their are droid factories on Geonosis when Obi-Wan is investigating them.

The conference interogation conveys that they are captured, what the Seperatists want and that they are to be put to death for not joining them.

Alright, I'll give that a go and upload the scene later.

In regards to Ripplin getting the HQ version: I planned on getting his full input on this as I've come to highly respect his opinion on this subject. I figured it might not be fair for people to not see it but I also didn't want to release it in HQ now so people download this and only this. It's 700mb. It's a fast download and better suited for Mp3 players. Be happy you even got this because the full release isn't even planned until December.

In regards to the Jawa and R2 scene: This scene gave me trouble cause I wanted to have them seem scary and all but then I was getting some music bleed. I'll see if I can get fluent music throughout their whole appearance. Music suggestions for this scene would be HIGHLY appreciated.

In regards to the sepia fading: I think this is a brilliant idea and I think I might just do this!!!

In regards to the factory scene and cutting out PT plot info: It gets difficult to cut certain scenes because sure I could cut much of the factory scene but the music is way to loud and difficult to work with and I need to show them captured. I'll see what I can do or maybe have them get cornored or something and then cut to them being brought in to the arena or in front of dooku and then the arena. Also, I tried cutting all the plot I could to keep AOTC to a minimum but the plot for AOTC is so convoluted it's difficult to cut something without confusing people who haven't scene Star Wars before. I got rid of the cloners of kamino storyline with difficulty as I had to work around a lot of plot holes. Suggestions in this area would be HIGHLY appreciated. Please use the outline on page one and the low quality video for reference.

Again, no need to get offended over a low quality video. I find a lot of people on these boards are perfectionists. The version for them will be out in December as I had promised a long time ago. This is like watching a leaked work print of a movie that isn't in theatres yet. If you are VERY curious to see the way it was edited and the scenes used and you cannot wait, then watch this. If you're a perfectionist and you want uber goodness then wait. Plain and simple. Don't bash Ripplin, and don't bash me. I asked for your opinion on the edit itself not for you to blatently insult me or tell me that this is the worst edit ever. I spent time to make this edit and you aren't forced to watch it. If you feel this edit is being repair then go make your own. Otherwise, if you are actually interested in the success of this edit, please leave your feedback as others have done and we can all work towards a good edit, together. Does that sound fair?

Ripplin i would say that you are correct when you say you will be getting a lot of people yelling at you when they finish the download and start to watch that. I would say that is unwatchable. Asteroid-man, what did you use to encode the XVID? You can easily fit a 2 hour movie to a 700mb xvid cd keeping good quality so it has nothing to do with the length of the film. Are the black bars encoded in the XVID too? And isn't the video vertically stretched? There are many guides to XVID encoding that would have helped. One thing i don't get though is with the video looking like that it would have to have a super low bitrate so it should have only been about 150mb Max with that quality. Its almost as if it was deliberately encoded that way. There is no detail in the picture whatsoever which, even at super low bitrate you would still get detail and not what looks to be a filter applied to destroy the video itself

I'm also curious as to why you will be taking donations. You say its because you will be sending copies out on DVD with printed covers, well this is dangerous territory. I have never charged anyone, or took donations, in return for a copy of the finished DVD's. Just because someone has offered does not mean that you should accept monetary payment for your edit. I had many offers of donations, but the ones that offered when there was no equipment or materials for my edit, these were turned down or returned to them if they had already sent the donation. I have always felt that receiving any monetary compensation so you can send out copies is too close to actually selling the edit, which goes against everything reputable fan editors stand for. It can also get you noticed by the wrong people.

I won't be charging for the actual DVDs. I said I will be shipping out some DVDs with covers regardless, but if donations were to be accepted I would use it to purchase materials I don't have. Ex: DVD-9s, Covers, labels and mailing.

Ok guys, here's the thing, Ripplin has the high quality video for himself and himself alone. The original plan was only for Ripplin to get it in the first place. I decided I would give everyone else a low quality 700mb avi so they could get an idea of what it will be like. The low quality is only for now. The final release will be in December so if you can't wait, watch the work copy now or if you want a crisp clean version you can wait. Plain and simple. Again, I'm not ASKING for donations. Some people have brought it up to me and I said I won't be accepting any until at the very least the low quality version is released online. I think that was a fair compramise. I didn't have time for a trailer so I gave you guys a low quality work copy.
