Exactly. Lucas has quashed all hope for a proper release. Why take it on the chin like a wimp if being nice about it will have no effect?

And you know ... I silently steamed about the direction of Star Wars UNTIL Lucas had to be a condescending prick with his "sorry you fell in love with my first vision" tripe.

I firmly believe that had Saturday Night Live not mocked NSYNC, the group would have remained in the film (BTW: I enjoyed Saturday Night Live's sendup more than the finished movie). Had Luke's girly scream in Empire not been mocked to high-heaven and low-hell, he wouldn't have removed it. Clearly, being polite goes nowhere in Lucas' world.

No, a troll is someone who disrupts an online community by intentionally posting content that runs counter to the general spirit of the community ... which is what you're doing.

Personally, my definition of a fanboy is someone who laps-up any and every product associated with a genre property ... regardless of quality or integrity.

Regardless, I dare anyone to call me a "fanboy" with a straight face ... because I'm a woman.

Lucas listens to us...and ruins things further (Boba Fett)

I have my own theory about Boba Fett's popularity:

For one thing, the Boba Fett animation sequence in "The Holiday Special" was the only enjoyable part of the program ... and millions of Star Wars fans tuned-in to that program when it aired. A cubic zirconia resting on a pile of shit is bound to look like the Hope Diamond.

For another thing, the Boba Fett mail-in action figure was released as a teaser for Empire long before the film was out ... I think most kids thought that the character was going to be very important. I know me and my group of Star Wars fans elevated him to a very high, nefarious position without knowing what kind of role he was going to play in the films. He was a bounty hunter Darth Vader. In that, the "imagined" role of Boba Fett was grander than his actual character ... thanks entirely to merchandising.

I kept up with the Expanded Universe up until Phantom Menace, and I appreciated Boba Fett's original origin story far more than what was presented in Attack of the Clones.

The fact remains that this new dialogue makes no sense now ... even if George tries to explain it away in a lousy prequel, the scene doesn't make sense.

I anticipate that half of Revenge of the Sith's runtime will be spent making sense out of all the dippy inconsistencies between the prequels and the real trilogy ... C3PO's memory wipe, Ben's memory wipe (because he clearly forgot about how R2D2 saved his life), the twins, the ghostly visions of deceased Jedi, the Emperor's lack of knowledge of Luke. I think he's going to try to draw a link between Chewbacca and Ben ... ugh, I wish it was over so I could start forgetting the prequels exist.

I fully expect Lucas to present some lame-o Midichlorian explanation for the young Anakin vision at the end of the film in Revenge of the Sith. Not that the explanation will rectify matters, but I do think he'll try.

I participated in a DVD marathon last week ... luckily, I didn't have to buy the DVDs before I saw them. Every single person in the room (30+ in age) wailed at every change. I'm sorry ... but the lightsabers were always fine. The explosions were always fine. None of this stuff needed to be spiffed-up. The FX were groundbreaking in the day ... now they're standard CGI ... no better than what's seen in The Star Wars Kid videos.

And something else ... while the DVDs' film quality was crystal-clear, the first two movies didn't have the same look as Star Wars did when seen in a theater. The colors were sharpened beyond anything that was seen in the day ... it's not the same color composition anymore. Everyone looks like they're wearing orange makeup (which they probably were ... because such makeup was expected to fade out to a natural fleshtone on film).

Frankly, if Lucas has issues with his first three films ... then he should freakin' REMAKE THEM FROM SCRATCH. New actors; new everything. But leave the original films as-is. As far as I'm concerned, he's had his chance to make Star Wars films with every modern toy available ... they're the prequels, and I happen to hate them.

I'm glad you're so familiar with the term "fanboy," Peeler. Are you as familiar with the internet term "troll?" FYI: Trolls typically continue posting on boards where they know their opinion runs counter to the purpose of the website's mission.

That's what you're doing ... trolling. I think your trolling is pretty pointless ... there are scores of Star Wars sites teeming with people who share your opinions on these DVDs, George Lucas' revised "visions," and the prequels. This site is not one of them ... if it was, I'd be banned by now (and I haven't even posted very much here yet).

I came here to find like-minded fans of the original films who share my contempt for and disappointment with George's constant meddling. Even at IMDB, the like-minded individuals I saw were few and far between. I did not register here to read the same old "Lucas is an infallible God" line that, quite frankly, I believe is contributing to the destruction of everything that was ever good about Star Wars. Low expectations reap lowly products.

So instead of "trolling" here and whining about the reactions you've received, why aren't you sticking to websites that you know agree with you?

Why the fans complain...

Farting was as cheap in the 80's as it is today, and then as now, it denotes the lowest brand of humor possible.

Above all we want these films to fit together...all six of them.

Sorry, but speak for yourself. I only want the first three movies ... in their untainted form. I'd like to forget the prequels happened, which is why I resent this latest release all the more.

Why is Lucas such a Knob?
Time
I've been wondering if Lucas isn't trying to orchestrate a "New Coke vs. Old Formula" outrage.

Some people dismiss it as conspiracy, but there's a good bit of evidence that suggests the release of "New Coke" was an intentional ploy to inspire people to DEMAND the original formula be re-introduced. And that's what happened ... the "New Coke" was quietly phased-out and the so-called Original Formula (which wasn't actually the same because it now contained corn syrup and was missing its trace cocaine elements) ended up closing the gap in the Cola Wars.

It is truly a matter of time

As a lurking newbie here, I resent the "get a life" speech. This forum is a place for fans to vent about the new DVD set, no? That's why I'm here.

My grandmother died last month ... I didn't yell "Fuck You George Lucas" at her funeral, ok? There's a time and a place to vent about George Lucas ... and THIS is the time and the place.

And no, I don't really think George Lucas is much of an artist. Not anymore. Whatever artistic magic he had in 1977 and 1980 has vanished ... and now he's admitted that he WANTS that original magic to vanish.

when did you see SW first...
Time
I saw Star Wars when I was Five ... circa 1977. My parents had already seen the film themselves and deemed it appropriate to bring me along. It was a month or two after the initial release. I thought it was the most incredible thing I'd ever seen ... I returned for many repeat viewings.

My Empire memories are more cherished ... see, my father had been laid off in early 1980. It was a tough year. The day before Empire debuted, he was hired at a new place (where he still works today). So to celebrate his fortune (and his last few days of being a home-dad), he took me to stand in line for Empire Strikes Back on opening day. I hadn't turned 8 yet, so it was a big deal. On the way to the movie, he grabbed the novelization and he read it during our three-hour wait in line. Everytime he came to a new section, he'd yell, "You won't believe what's going to happen!!" I'd say, "Tell me! What's going to happen!!" And then he'd tease, "Oh, you're just going to have to wait to see for yourself!!" The whole line was laughing.

STAR WARS DVD Producer Van Ling answers the tough questions!
Time
The most disingenuous thing about George Lucas' changes is the fact that he is packaging them as an "artistic vision" that he had in 1977 but couldn't translate. That's a crock ... he's changing these films 4LOM (for the love of money). None of the changes he's made -- not to the 1997 release (which I took on the chin and didn't complain about) and not to this current DVD debacle -- were made to better the films. Indeed, this last round of changes was made as a way to force his prequels into the Star Wars saga ... so you can't watch the first three movies without recalling the Prequels. And I don't think he's done meddling yet.

Gary Kurtz, who was as much of a creative force in the first two Star Wars films as Lucas (some say he was far more active in Empire than Lucas) can't stand Lucas' meddling. He's one of many important individuals unhappy with the changes ... individuals whose work was evident in the first three films. Lucas has crapped on hundreds of artists' contributions.

Yeah, Lucas created the characters. And yes, he owns the copyright. That's unfortunate and it's the reason why studios usually acquire full rights to properties ... so the creators can't go in later and devalue the property.

Lucas has gone batshit crazy ... too bad he only has Yes-men and no real friends to help him out.

I fear that this new dialogue is going to relate to Revenge of the Sith. Vader is going to willingly allow his son to be taken from him, rather than kill baby Luke and/or his mother. It will be implied that Vader hid this info from the Emperor. Which will make Vader slightly more cuddly to anyone introduced to him as "Annie."
