That's good news. Makes me wonder what they did to the GOUT so it has less detail than the LaserDiscs. See:
http://www.originaltrilogy.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=9&threadid=6848A problem with horizontal field movement during the telecine process caused 'jaggies' in the Definitive Collection transfer. Instead of fixing this properly, i.e. making a sub-pixel horizontal adjustment between the fields, the DVD has been mastered with a vertical blur to mask the jaggie effect.

Oh, I missed that thread. Vertical blur? Well, the jaggies are still very visible so it didn't even help + the picture is now more blurry...

Note: there are two different wide shots - the first one is right after R2 comes out and the second is a few seconds later after the applause and the 3-shot of Han, Luke, and Leia. The first one, which most of your screens above are from, is a bit clearer and you can see the lines quite distinctly. The second shot, which your PAL GOUT and EditDroid screens are from, is not as clear and the lines are harder to make out. The X0 raw capture does look clearer than your GOUT shots. The final X0 will obviously look even better.

That's good news. Makes me wonder what they did to the GOUT so it has less detail than the LaserDiscs.

The GOUT is missing some detail as we can see in this shot. Can you see seperate black stripes on R2 in this shot in the X0 capture?

Looked at that image in photoshop, the height of that section of stripes is only 18 pixels, 5.5 percent of the height of that image. Nothing short of an HD source is going to show that kind of detail.

That image has been resized which will decrease detail and looks a little too soft. What did you use to capture the frame?
VideoLan. But I cropped in Iview and added the red circle in paint. So the picture is probably softer than what's on the dvd.
I'll check which shot we are using and get back to you, but there are only 270 odd lines so the resolution of backround areas is also a problem on our captures.

Thanks. I noticed the Editdroid version has slightly more detail than the PAL GOUT so that made me wonder.

Looking for 1997 Star Wars Special Edition DVD9, 5 Star Edition (Please Help)
Time
I had the 5 star set but sold it again because the quality sucks (being dvd9 doesn't add quality in this case). I had the "original" factory pressed bootleg bought on ebay from someone in Hong Kong. It has a DTS track but the quality is just so bad (audio volume going up and down in the middle of a scene, stuff like that). It's no use looking for this set unless you don't want to watch it but want it as a Star Wars item on your shelf.
