Blu-ray Disc or HD-DVD?

Both the DVD and Blu-ray screencaps are 720 x 405 (Blu-ray is risized ofcourse). So the DVD could have been as good as the screencaps of the Blu-ray disc. In other words, that dvd transfer sucks.

Check out the "ZOOM" link above each picture set... not exactly 1080p but they're almost 720p

I missed the zoom function. Thanks.

Of course, even if the player debuts at $500, the not so early adopters will snap it up so they can play both formats and then the price will do nothing but drop. That's exactly what happened when dvd+r and dvd-r were at war. The burners were expensive until dual format ones hit the market. Now you can find them for $30 (my first dual format drive was $250).

I remeber when I wanted to buy my first dvd burner, but I couldn't decide between -r and +r. Then Sony came with a dual format burner and from that moment everybody started producing dual format drives and prices dropped. So I'm kind of hoping the same will happen with HD.

Is Blu-ray really dominant? I really hope so! I think if the companies got together in the first place and decided on one format, players would be much cheaper. Plus with all these format exclusive titles who wants a player that can only play one format?

though i do favor blu ray for it's technical aspects and amount of data space HD-DVD is cheaper and more user friendly and allows use of imported titles and does not have the high end encryption.

should hacks crack blu ray like they did dvd, then i can watch region 2 japan titles on blu ray but until that happens i'm sticking with dvd

But HD-DVD has this DRM/AACS crap.
I'm hoping it will be easy to make a player region free.

Lately I stopped buying movies on DVD because I don't want to have to rebuy them in the future in HD. I'm not going to buy a HD-TV and HD player yet, first the price has to come down. But I read a lot about Blu-ray and HD-DVD to see what I like best. I still can't believe we are in a format war again! I'm pretty sure I like Blu-ray more. I also read there will be players that can play both formats, that will make things much easier. Have you decided yet?

UFOs and Aliens

If it was flying at night, all you'd see are two glowing objects side by side, moving across the sky at an incredible rate of speed. Remember, with full afterburners, it flew from LA to NY in, what, 1.5 hrs? Do the math and you'll find that it was exceeding, I think, Mach 7.

My take on UFOs is that it's just bleeding edge government technology being tested. The F-23 (JSF) and the SR-71 fall into that category.

My thoughts exactly.
And I think if we ever face somthing alien it will probably be some sort of probe and not a spacecraft with the actual aliens in it.

I do believe somewhere in the universe there is other life/intelligence but I'm not sure it will be similar to life on Earth or like anything we can imagine.

Who got their membership pkg and "letter" from George Lucas?

That would be the greatest day in Star Wars history. But I'm wondering how much of this "letter" are Lucas's own words. He probably didn't write it himself, did he?

I would appreciate it if you could post them, if only the .rar, .r15 and .par2 files.
I'm new (can you tell?!) to this whole newsgroup thing and am struggling to see why they're a good idea!!

It's a good idea because generally the downloading is faster, you don't have to upload/share anything, the uploading is more anonimous than torrents, the downloading looks like normal internet traffic. Stuff like that.

Audio Question...
Time
So you ripped the .vob files to your hdd? You only need to demux them I think, since you hear audio when you play the video files...
I don't know mac the ripper but can't you select the demux option when ripping the dvd like this:

"You can also choose to demux the individual streams (.m2v, .ac3, .dts, .pcm, .spc) from the VOB, and select only the ones you want. To do this, click the "D" button (for demux), and then the "Streams" button to open the stream selection drawer. There, you can choose exactly which streams you want extracted."
