The WOWOW has no DNR or EE and despite being only 2k can show more detail than the new 4k master.

They are slightly sharpened being made for TV, but that would be dialed down

What kind of avisynth script would you suggest to reduce sharpening? What about WOWOW's grain?

UnFilter (http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/Unfilter) is great for undoing basic EE.

Building a new PC - tips needed
Time

1. Does the 4x4GB have the same CAS Latency as the 2x8GB? What are the timings?

2. Go with an OCZ Vertex 4 SSD. Also, go with the 2x2TB WD Black rather than the 1x4TB WD Black.

3. Active PFC. Make sure it's >= 80 PLUS Bronze Certified. Also, make sure it's powerful enough: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

4. If Linux is not an option, then I'd stick with Windows 7 if I were you.

High-End video capture cards

What do you mean by reliable? I haven't heard good things about the BMIP and VHS signals.

Most of the bad reviews of the BMIP come from people plugging the composite output of a crappy VCR into it; expecting the BMIP to lock onto an incredibly unstable signal.

By "reliable" I simply mean that if you (1) provide a stable signal, (2) determine that your HDD/SSD is sufficiently fast using Blackmagic's Disk Speed Test, and (3) make sure not to put your PC under heavy load while capturing, then you have as close to a guarantee as possible that the BMIP will never drop a frame or duplicate a field.

I own wayyy too many capture cards. Even my best one (before the BMIP) duplicated a field every so often.

So which card ended up being the one to go with? my new powerful PC does not have a video capture card and I was thinking on getting one just to have, not sure if I will ever need LD video but I guess it couldn't hurt to have 1 just in case, I have Windows 7 Pro 64-bit so which card is good and will not break the bank lol?

Thanks

and I am in the US so would need US links.

What are your requirements? 3D comb filter, etc...

Really whatever is good for the money, hell just give me some ideas of what you guys think are the best ones for what we all do here.

If you need a 3D comb filter and you don't mind the potential AGC issues, then go with the Diamond TVW750PCIE.

If you don't need a 3D comb filter (or a good comb filter at all, for that matter) and you're interested in something that's rock-solid reliable for both analog and digital captures, then go with the Blackmagic Intensity Pro.

Well I don't think I will continue after all of your negative comments so yeah and the Star Wars holiday special sucks by the way

Unfortunately, you invited those negative comments by failing to conform to the norms of this community.

To understand what I mean, read post #62 of this thread very carefully.

FWIW, I made a similar mistake in Off Topic once and I learned my lesson. My advice to you (if you plan to stick around, that is) is to man-up and move on.

Laserdisc Ripping?

Another option is to go with VirtualVCR.

It'll record the audio even if there's no video signal present, so if you want to save space choose to compress the video with Lagarith and enable "null frames". Doing this will compress the initial empty frame (since there's no video signal) once and each subsequent empty frame will only result in some space wasted in the AVI header.
