Any encoding bugs in the MPEG2 stream were caused by my DVD recorder (Panasonic DMR-ES10). As I've mentioned earlier, the most recent release is a quick-and-dirty VCR->DVD Recorder capture; no post-processing was done.
It played fine in VLC on my desktop computer, so I didn't see any need to re-encode it, but I do regret not doing so now.
Also, don't forget that if it's free, then the "average person" shouldn't complain about having to put in some extra legwork. It's an inherent part of the deal.
