Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

It's a giant universe with endless stories to tell. Why shrink it down to just this one?

Because many of the "endless stories" that have already been told (e.g., EU, PT, and TCW) aren't as appealing as the one (OT).

The PT isn't a "hero's journey", doesn't feel like "the old west in space", and lacks the "used universe" aesthetic. I gather that most OT fans expect one or all of these qualities when looking for more Star Wars. I know I do.

Would an OUT blu ray be something they would announce at Comic con?

That would make sense to me. Wasn't SW77 first announced at a convention of some sort?

The distant past aside, it's the sort of thing that gets announced at ComicCon these days.

Yep, I don't see why Disney wouldn't choose ComicCon to announce an OUT BD release.

I've always wondered if using a high end Upscaling player with a PC capture card would yeild better results for the GOUT. Running 1080p from a Toshiba XA2 or an Oppo seems it could be a better option than software upscaling.

I've looked into this and you'd be surprised by how well FOSS solutions hold up. The algorithms used by many proprietary upscaling chips have to cut a lot of corners in order to produce results in near-real-time. They can't afford to do what, e.g., NNEDI3 does.

I mean, I'm no businessman, but it just seems like the obvious thing to do. They could make a gazillion dollars, gain the goodwill of fans, and pump up the hype for Episode VII in one fell swoop.

By the way, Star Wars no longer seems to appear under 'Projects' on the RMW website. ...Of course, it's still on the reels.

Wow...you're right. That's pretty suspicious.

My e-mail might have had some impact or, more likely, that news article.

I think one important thing to point out is that if people (in general) don't care about SE revisions, then they also wouldn't care about the lack of them. Disney must know this.

An equal number don't know the movies have been changed at all.

It's funny. I wrote that post in support of an OUT release. People not caring about the lack of SE revisions, to me, indicates that they'd be fine with an OUT release, but I can see how my post could be taken differently.

Disney has a unique opportunity to market the OUT if done right. "The Star Wars you grew up with" or something similar would speak to a large number of people, not just fans.

Agreed. :-)
