Will there be 4 separate threads created soon to follow the progress on the other movies? Or will there be 1 giant "Revisited Project" thread to track whatever is currently going on in the Adywan productions universe?I don't think we've discussed it yet, but I would want to keep them separate, mostly so the people who don't care about his prequel edits can follow the RotJR news.
But that's up to Ady.Then maybe a ROTJ:R thread and a PT:R thread. Just two might be fine, rather than 4 separate threads. Just a thought.
That gets my vote. No way are the Prequels deserving of individual threads. Plus they're getting such a rejig that parts from one episode might end up in another, so it makes sense that they all be grouped together.
I third this idea.

Oh wow, a rare example where the Technidisc/GOUT source has the dirtier splice.
The JSC seems cleaner overall too; excluding the splices, of course.
Wouldn't the solution to this problem be to shoot only for a theatrical release print preservation (warts and all) rather than trying to shoot for what is/was on the negative?
You'd need to check against at least one good early '77 Eastman Kodak 35mm print to rule out any issues introduced by the TechIB process, but this should involve far less guesswork than trying to guess what's on the negative.
Just my 2c. Keep up the good work, Mike.
Santiag fixes the aliasing wonderfully.
I'm going to try the amazing denoise node in a herein-unnamed application. I've never seen this fucker artifact.
I'm pretty sure it's a straight rip and that the original is a DVD5.
The following R2 DVD release mentions being DVD5 on the back. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00IFSUDEW
I wonder if they used the same master...
I have the R2 DVD from RuTracker. There's no ghosting, but there's definitely some noticeable macroblocking. Was this supposed to be a DVD5? Was it recompressed? I can't read Russian and Google Translate does a pretty shitty job.

That's funny... throwing out the entire EU gave them credibility in my book.
Same here.

As for Disney, they've already lost any credibility with Star Wars
Why? How?

This is the exact reason I'm going to try the software decoding method. It will hopefully alleviate most of this craziness. From what I understand, a lot of it gets introduced in the players before it ever hits the tbc.
Thankfully (for me) the Runco LJR-II only has a tiny amount of it; it's barely visible.
The image I provided came from happycube and I think it's from his Pioneer LD-V8000.
Is it decoded using his software or just capped from the output of the player?
I have no idea. I'll ask him.

Not sure if this is possible, or to what level it could be applied but - is there any chance this could be used to merge the Chroma from Harmy's Despecialized with the Luma from the Renegade Grindhouse?
You'd need an excellent image registration algorithm, at least.
Even the best ones screw up constantly, so you'd have to manually check every frame for alignment issues.
It's usually more trouble than it's worth.
poita and I looked into this a few years ago. The best image registration program he could get took four minutes per frame on his absurdly fast hardware and it still wasn't really as trustworthy as it should have been.

I guess it does increase the illusion of detail.
I just think it does a fantastic job of upscaling without losing detail.

It's almost as if I have my face too close to the television!
You are in this case. Take a few steps back to see how well it upscales the image.

I had looked around for a plug-in to handle "ringing" or, more accurately, "edge-enhancement haloing" (that's sharpening done the wrong way).
Try anything you find on this monster. :-D

If the rule is you should have the blu-rays before downloading the despecialized editions so that you aren't technically getting something for nothing, then why aren't you supposed to own all the different versions of the movies that were used as sources for the despecialized versions? If you only own the blu-rays, then it could be argued that you're profiting from the piracy of all the releases that aren't blu-rays.
You might benefit from a read of "What colour are your bits?": http://ansuz.sooke.bc.ca/entry/23 I misread your post. Sorry.
I doubt that the copyright holder in this case would care that this is a multi-source derivative work. Any case against this would be cut-and-dry enough.

I'm not sure he got what he was aiming for with the scanlines.
The scanlines weren't explicitly put in. His script actually emulates how an aperture grille CRT (and other CRTs) functions and the scanlines in this case are a side-effect of that.
JEDIT: Check out his other samples: https://www.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=3a7a37048d43d2750ea9abe6aa4dd0b0&p=1683051#post1683051
JEDIT 2: Also keep in mind that this is best viewed at a distance. Neither a CRT nor this look "right" when examined up close.
GOUT looks much better on CRT displays, so when cretindesalpes came out with his new accurate crt_display Avisynth function I jumped on the opportunity to see how well it handles GOUT.
Wow. Just wow. See for yourself…
The reason for all of the Disney is that I'm planning a quick DVD recorder (Panasonic DMR-ES10) project for my son. He'll be 1 in April and will probably be interested in Disney in the near future, so I want to be prepared.
I call it "The Disney 30 in 40: 1937-1977". I'll be preserving the best LDs of Disney's first 30 films that—interestingly enough—were produced in their first 40 years of doing theatrical animated features.
I'll be preserving two alternate versions as well (The Lady and the Tramp fullscreen alternate version and Sleeping Beauty in P&S), so that makes it 32: a nice power of 2.
These images exclude the following recent purchases:
1. New/sealed Alice in Wonderland boxset
2. New/sealed Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs boxset (replacing my old destroyed one)
3. New/sealed Fantasia boxset
4. New/sealed So Dear to My Heart
5. Make Mine Music (JP)
6. Melody Time (JP)
7. Cinderella pre-boxset CAV
8. Peter Pan pre-THX CAV
9. Robin Hood CAV
10. Sleeping Beauty pre-boxset P&S
11. Pete's Dragon
12. A Fistful of Dollars (downstairs in the CLD-1010)

Vimeo is another good alternative.
I considered recommending them, but they've taken down several adywan videos in the past.
Danfun128 said:
Why do you say that?
The camera is pretty static in RotJ. The panning in the P&S adds something to the film that I feel is missing.
Plus nostalgia and all that.

One hell of a collection you've got going there!!
Thanks. I can post images of the rest of it if althor1138 doesn't mind.
