It's great to be able to watch this in it's entirety.  Thanks for sharing!

I've noticed there are duplicate frames?  Also, Reel 1 is missing some footage at the end.

EDIT: so far it seems like reel1 is the only one with duplicate frames.  I still have to check 3 and 4 though.

I just posted this same thing on the Spleen.  Glancing at all of the reels in VirtualDub, Reel 1 seems to be the only one that is affected.

Ah, that's a shame. If those frames aren't there, then I don't have them.

A new scan is coming, FWIW.

'Raiders of the Lost Ark' - bluray and colour timing changes (Released)
Time

I've aligned the ~20GiB WOWOW 1080i capture to the R1 DVD (I prefer its 5.1 AC-3 audio to what's on the BD).

This took some work because two frames were dropped which caused a cadence break and prevented "Force Film" from working in DGIndex, so I had to manually IVTC it even though the stream used soft pulldown (ugh!).

After padding the beginning and end with appropriate amounts of black frames, I used my shot-change-detection+diff method to verify that the two are synchronized. They are. I then used IsCombedTIVTC() to verify that no combed frames were leftover from my manual IVTC. None were.

So... yay!

I now face the challenge of removing the few instances of burned-in JP subtitles. Does anyone have a list of which shots have them? If not, then I'll watch it once through and take notes. Thanks!

Why does the thread need any action, if there's nothing new to discuss concerning its topic?

I keep hoping for a Special Edition of this thread with all off topic posts removed.

The SE of this thread will be released on 15 Feb 2028 and will contain a few more off-topic posts as well as the following CGI added to all of them.

Dino!

On 15 Feb 2039 Adywan will release his own SE of the SE of this thread which will remove some off-topic posts, clarify/reinterpret others, and change the CGI to the following.

Dino!

Everyone: Please accept my sincere apology for this post. I love you all.

I think that all of the off-topic discussion in this thread is caused by:

1. Hope that "keeping the thread alive" will keep updates coming from Adywan and/or motivate Adywan to keep going full-speed-ahead.

2. The fact that many users access this forum indirectly via e-mail subscriptions. I can imagine that being subscribed to only one thread would give one a very narrow view of the forum.

Disclaimer: This is just speculation. I neither endorse (1) nor exclusively engage in (2).

I have R1(raw) rendered out. The H.264 encoder in [an-excellent-program]* only allows a max bitrate of 32767 Kbps (2^15-1), but it looks pretty good on my monitor and weighs-in at ~8GiB. There are four reels in total; five if you consider that there's an alternate scan of R4.

I can release it as-is, but the colors are off and it's uncropped. Poita, et al. tried to calibrate to the Kodak LAD card, but that screws things up even further, so we're trying to work out something now that can get us really close to what's actually represented on the film. Thankfully, he has the film to compare the scan to, so the color work is in good hands.

The big question now is: Should I just release it raw or should I wait for color correction to come down the pipeline?

The HDD->HDD clone is and always will be an option, of course.

(* PM me for the name.)
