Even if yesterday your house burned down, everyone in your nuclear and extended family died, and you were a victim of identity theft, if you choose to come into work, then YOU LEAVE THAT SHIT OUTSIDE.

I can't fucking stand rude and temperamental people in the workplace. I can't, even if they have OK reason(s) to be.

Seriously, many adults need to stop acting like children at work.

WTF

sorry we're not all robots.

I don't expect people to be, but I do expect workers to strive (even at the cost of decreased job performance) to maintain a temperament suitable for the workplace.

This is not called being a robot, it's called being an adult.

People aren't machines and only one of them is you so while it may be a bit draining sometimes it might help you keep a level head and do your own job better if you at least tried a bit of empathy once in a while.

I am empathetic in all cases except those in which the person is hostile.

I'm not paid to read these forums and I have to suffer the most bonkers emotional outbursts, often illustrative of severe behaviour disorders.

I'm not paid to read these forums either, but there's not much else to do when you're waiting for something to compile and/or execute.

If you have an injury to your foot, you will limp regardless of whether you are being paid to walk or not.

Same goes for the temper.

Physical and mental disabilities are entirely different, so this analogy doesn't make sense. Having a limp doesn't (usually) impact your coworkers' ability to function, but being crazy and having outbursts might.

Two guys tried to kill me at work once but after some thought I came to the conclusion that they only attempted to poison my air supply because they were politically disenfranchised (and didn't like me that much and were Nazi nutters).

Hmmm...

Then what you are saying is there is no excuse for any emotional outburst in a workplace setting?

Any negative emotional outburst... yes.

You leave that shit at the door and bring it home with you when you leave.

Edit: Alternatively, you come here and do it in writing, if you can.

Edit 2: I don't try to enforce this, you know -- I'm actually a rather empathetic person. With that being said, I do judge people when things get out of control.

Granted, some people are just assholes.

But if you don't mind me asking, what's the worst thing that has ever happened to you?

Nothing bad enough to test my ability (or lack thereof) to come into work with a level-head.

However, considering how strongly I feel about this particular issue, I'd put in 150% to maintain a stiff-upper-lip if something terrible were to happen.

When the event that triggered your outburst happened what attempt was made to justify it (prompting your 'extreme' false excuses)?

Their home wasn't nuked by a serial rapist but what did they tell you really happened?

Nothing -- he didn't say anything about his motivations to me. Considering that he's known to do this often, I don't expect that anything extraordinary happened to him.

I listed those extreme examples to emphasize how strongly I feel about this particular issue.

Well that changes everything.

What really happened then?

A coworker got angry with me for speaking to another coworker for a total of 15-20 seconds, slammed his fist on the desk, and huffed-n-puffed. He then said that we were bothering him.

I rarely speak, as I'm not one to socialize, so it pissed me off.

This is ridiculous because we work in cubicles (I'm a Computer Programmer), so one can't have any reasonable expectation of a quiet work environment.

The coworker with whom I was speaking claims that this particular guy explodes every now and then. There's no room for that in any workplace and, yes, I do expect people to become Spock-like at work.

What is your home theater setup for watching Star Wars movies? (or what equipment would like to get if you could afford it/or dream setup?)

Do we really need 4k at home? I mean it's not like it's giant screens like in the movie theather. (unless you're really rich) Is the extra detail really noticable on a home sized projection screen?

Note: I don't have much experience with 4K video, so I really have no clue how much better it looks compared to 1080p/2k

Probably not, but the future may bring advancements in technology to make it feasible; e.g., better compression algorithms, more energy-efficient televisions, etc.

If it's cheap and easy (it's not now), then why not?

Edit: Furthermore, consumer demand for "high definition" drives companies (and other institutions) to spend more on R&D. It's a win for society as a whole. (Also, those better compression algorithms for 4K may make our DVD-sized videos much smaller.)

Your workmates have really crappy luck, perhaps you should be a bit more understanding.

Just sayin'.

That didn't happen to anyone. I was being extreme.

(Regardless, I did add "choose to come into work" for a reason.)

I'm usually understanding, but that stops when they start getting angry/impatient/etc. with me (for no good reason).

@AntcuFaalb, I had a go at trying to capture the first UK PAL widescreen VHS a while ago, however i was using all cheap equipment and it was a really crude job compared to what goes on here, but i still have some clips saved i could post up some frames - if you are working towards your ideal reference from among sources

I'd appreciate that. Any screenshots are welcome, of course :-D

The smaller PAR-sets are now on a.b.starwars. Enjoy!

OK, I've again proven myself to be a daft bloke. Mallwalker gave me the run-down for generating these PAR-sets properly, so I'll be uploading another set tonight :-D

Silly me. I usually research things to death, but in this case, I blindly followed some tutorials and shouldn't have.

Thanks, Darth Mallwalker!

I have it on good authority that Lucasfilm legal is definitely keeping an eye on this place and they don't consider our efforts enough of a threat to their marketing to do anything about it.

Even if they did, can they really stop us?

Which project?!

PS78: Pre-ANH Star Wars Bootleg VHS from 1978 ***"RAW" DVD RELEASED***

When are we going to get to see the finished product (combined captures)?

Right after I'm done uploading the raw captures. I'm sorry for the delay, but it's really important for me to back these up (via Usenet) because I don't have a good backup solution at home.

I would've normally released the finished product first, but I don't have enough hard drive space left to render it!
