Are all of the 461 VHSs pirated?
Can you list some of the more rare and/or notable ones?

How do you know he's 16?

Hm. That surprises me, but I'm glad he found it lying around somewhere for you. Hopefully he has more than the sample around. While the GOUT-centric projects are looking great, it's always interesting to see people continually tamper with the laserdisc sets. Especially ones who seem to know what they're doing.
He's has the raw captures -- not just the sample.
It's my understanding that he's willing to take the time out to get them to me (probably with BD-25s or DVD-9s via snail-mail) if there's enough interest here.
Is there?

^I doubt those still exist. DJ was never fond of them, and the set is years old. I can't even find the thread for the original release! He did attempt a V2 but claimed it was a fruitless effort and deleted it shortly after (which was, of course, his call.)
Believe it or not, I've been in contact with Dark_Jedi, and that sample I posted above is from his V2!
He sent me a raw Lagarith-encoded AVI sample from his JSC V2 a few days ago.

You're right. After layering them on each other in photoshop and comparing, there is no doubt that the X9 has the cleanest luma.
I'd be more than willing to spend my time doing this, but I'd definitely need the raw, uncropped, 29.97fps captures from Dark_Jedi.
Why?
Software comb filters always need to be applied before IVTC'ing.

Indeed! although i wish you had put a capital at the start of your sentence...
Damn you George what have you done to us haha.
it is not needed on sentence fragments like this..
that's why i use ellipses... A LOT!

That's not
grammatically true.

really?
according to this...

However, an ellipses and no period can be used at the end of a sentence fragment to indicate that it is purposefully incomplete.

now back to harmy's 'as the grammar world turns'...
ooops. i mean as 'star wars DE:HD' turns...

You know we're just dicking around!
I've managed to track down a Technidisc copy of The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi.
If I find a Technidisc copy of A New Hope, I'll buy all three.
According to this post, it looks like I can get excellent quality laserdisc captures by combining a Pioneer CLD-S104/S304 (which does no digital video processing at all) with the comb filter in my Panasonic DMR-ES10.

Well, the LD-V4400 is out, as I read that it's well-known for terrible ghosting problems.
is there a reason you're talking about laserdiscs in a VHS thread?
maybe a new format LD-VHS? haha

Nope. I de-railed my own thread :-(
Do you know where I can find a good laserdisc player on-the-cheap?

I might be able to get a Pioneer LD-V4400.
(Summon Yoda...) Of this would you approve?

I'm looking forward to 'em!
Thanks for the information, Moth3r!
There are a few good players that do apparently output an untouched composite signal: the X0, for example, and some industrial models such as the LD-V8000.
What about a Pioneer CLD-V2800?

Ah, but is it letterboxed? ;)
Why can't Laserdiscs still be alive and kicking somewhere? *cries*
:-(
This is almost a year old now, but I had to share it...
Can someone with a knowledge of Spanish translate this back to English? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvGzAHRIz5k
I'm interested in how much is lost in translation.

Just wanted to add my many thanks to Harmy for all of his efforts!
I saw all 3 originals on VHS when I was pretty young, and I didn't really remember anything about them other than that I saw them. I didn't see the original trilogy again until 2004 when the DVDs came out, and since I hadn't seen the VHS versions for so long, I didn't have a clue what was different about them. I finally decided to track them down online and see what all the complaining about the special editions was about. I was expecting the best I'd find was some pretty poor quality stuff, until I stumbled my way into here. Now I know how much better the originals were than the special editions. Fantastic work Harmy!
I've shown them to some friends and they can't believe the quality. Very much looking forward to the BD.
It warms my heart to see posts like these.
My biggest problem with the SEs isn't that they exist, but that they were really half-assed. Lots of missing stars = BIG problem in post-processing!

Here's a new DeEd Remastered video logo :-)
I like it a lot!
I'm sorry to say it guys, but I think the Dark Jedi raw (DJ sent me a sample) capture looks better than the X9 raw capture.
NOTE: SEGAFLIP HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS CAPTURE, SO PLEASE DISREGARD THE FOLLOWING CAPTION, AS IT SHOULD READ: "Dark Jedi Raw".

Frink, the question is: at this rate, will pat man's post count eventually beat yours?

The S-Video signal is already separated by the LD player.
The composite signal will be separated by the capture card.
This is technically true, but it's my understanding that most LD players do a poor job at separating luma from chroma for S-Video output.

You could probably re-capture the Technidisc pressing, if you like ;)
I'd like to, but they're so damn hard to find!!!
I'll lend mine . . . when the time comes.
That'd be excellent, but I only have a Pioneer CLD-V2800 :-(
If that's cool, I'd love to do the project with you after I finish PS78.
Edit: I'm hoping to get my hands on a Panasonic LX-600.

The 12" Story of LPs have already been captured and released at 24bit and 16bit.
I concur that the audio files should be WAV or FLAC. Both are uncompressed file formats, the latter being smaller in size.
It's better to work with WAV while you're working because this format will work more easily with audacity, audition, etc
Including ROTJ in 24-bit?
I thought that 7FN's was the first 24-bit capture and his set didn't include ROTJ...
The 'story of' set I have from 7FN certainly has the 24bit ROTJ capture. His release was only missing the ROTJ music soundtrack.
Doh! You're right.
I should know this considering that I uploaded it... silly me.
LOL. I know the feeling - all the uploads blur into one, right? :)
A little, yeah.
It's a real bummer that 7FN won't be releasing his ROTJ soundtrack capture :-(
