I see you are inpatient Hal and tired of the editing hault, or rather, the long wait to finish it. So I’ll give you my few cents to maybe help keep the spirit going;

I haven’t seen TROS. And I work at a damn cinema! No interest. I haven’t watched original films since before TFA. I’ve watched TFA and TLJ only to edit them, and not ever since.

I follow this thread, and await this final edit, just to see if you can pull of a film I will actually somewhat enjoy, as I don’t even dare to watch the original. This is the only interesting part left of Star Wars for me. This tiny, little thread.

Some of you might know me from editing the Game of Thrones series into a film series, accompanied with the LOTR score. I am currently at work mapping out the ending and what needs to work to get there, so I started editing some on season 7 and 8.

I want this thread to be used as a collaboration of sorts to improve the ending of one of the greatest shows on television ever made. To reach this potential, certain things have to be altered.

I will release the last two films for Season 7 and 8 with the original Ramin Djawadi score, as well as with my altered LOTR score, upon completion.

Here is one idea I have to accomplish a better ending to The Night King, Arya and Bran Stark’s arcs all in one single scene:

This accomplishes:

• Arya being the means to end the Night King, but not landing the final blow
• Bran Stark killing the Night King, thus fulfilling Bran Stark’s storyline (although he is Bran Stark no more but in the flesh).
• The Night King not dying to a random girl from behind a hidden tree line

Other Ideas being worked on:

• Bran Stark is the Night King. Upon becoming the Three Eyed Raven, what he really became - was the Night King. This is why he is so distant and mysterious. He’s really the bad guy, in his final form, plotting his last moves. The Night King of the White Walkers is what he once was, but is no more - and therefore ending his former self, like in the clip above, does not matter to him no more.

• Bran Stark wargs into Drogon and Daenerys during “The Bells”. You know during The Battle of Winterfell Theon asks Bran where he’s going, and he wargs away for the entire battle? Well, in my edit what Bran is really doing, is altering the future - by warging into Daenerys and her dragon and fucking King’s Landing up. This is of course left as a surprise, being shown near the end of the film before Drogon and Dany goes berserk. This also fulfills the prophecy “You will never walk again, but you will fly”.

Not finished of course, but for me we gain two things:

1. Bran is the one to end the Night King.
2. A casualty to bring down the NK.

Film IV, A Roar for Vengeance, is completed.

This was a tricky edit. A very tricky edit. On one hand, the Stark heritage line has gotten very complicated with the death of our two main characters - first Ned Stark, and then Robb Stark. In a cinematic sense, you always need one or more main characters to lead you through the story’s emotions and feel what they feel, by of course having empathy with them and an understanding of what drives that certain character that you root for. Having killed of the two main characters that lead us through the grand picture of the story has left the fourth film in a difficult position. But luckily, I love a challenge - and I am very proud of this fourth entry.

The natural progression for me was to now set up the new puzzle pieces and make it clear very early who are now the new main characters and why. Jon Snow, and Tyrion and Jamie (from their respective representative sides of the story; The Starks and the Lannisters) was undoubtebly the way to go, to maintain a red thread all throughout from Film I and onwards. To suddenly keep focusing on a lot of the different plots and main characters throughout Westeros would of course be enjoyable - as the world is so rich, but in my opinion it would worsen this as a film franchise and undermine the main story and main conflict. Having Tyrion and Jamie - two characters that we now LIKE and empathize with drive the Lannister side of the story, and Jon Snow drive the Stark Side of the story, is in my opinion the way to go to keep the narrative strong, rich but also simple. And a world as rich as Game of Thrones, simple means “followable”.

We also keep a focus on the Arya, Daenerys, Sansa, Bran and Theon side of the story - tho’ in a strong narratively and sustainable way. We have to respect the richness of the world, and the upcoming significance and reward of certain plot points and character moments. Stannis is still very present through dialogue, but he keeps a backseat in this film as well due to the lack of forward momentum and overall importance to the story. His role is much more significant in Film V and VI.

Me personally, don´t think this is a necessarily bad ending (except bran as king), it is how it´s done (storytelling, plotarmor, pace and of course things like “daeny kind of forgot about the iron fleet”).

Your suggestion could work, but what to do about major side characters like varys or littlefinger? It is tough to integrate them without beeing killed, they would become just background characters.
The night king could be killed by bran, also. @almightycutie did a fairly good approach on this in his “GoT Redeemed” edit by simulating the nk breaks aryas neck and bran pass into her to let the dagger drop and to stab him.
Also removing plotarmor for jamie, sam, brienne. He edited these faces and aryas into the funeral.

All things ive thought about for a long time, but it still dosent satisfy me.

I might have Dany fly straight to the Red Keep after The Loot Train to settle the Cersei arc BEFORE the battle at winterfell. That way, the night king gets to be the deserved final foe of the story, and we can focus on what really matters.

I will for sure release the last two seasons/edits with two alternate tracks, one with the LOTR score and one with the original GOT, for others to enjoy my alternate ending.

I will come back to this matter when I’ve finished season 6. Then we will have some good discussions.

The problem is that most of what’s in season 8 isn’t effective, so I doubt the parts that got the axe are a revelation.

Unfortunately there are like four deleted scenes released, and they’re all shit. Just like the three last episodes.

Absolutley signed, it ruined - at least for me so much, if not the whole series. Would love to start over again with a friend, who magically didn´t see any GoT epsiode till now, but knowing what will happen in the last season is just heartbreaking and keeps me away from a rewatch.
But this is not a disucssion thread about GoT, so glad to see someone (you) to craft such a project.
Did i get this right, that you used not the original soundtrack for your first three edits?

This is unfortunately the sad truth, that the last three episodes are horrendous. I MIGHT create two different versions/endings to my GoT film saga. But my main narrative will be that The White Walkers win.

Just interested to see the difference in how it would compare to your original concept for the movie cuts with LOTR music. Maybe they could be added as an alternative music track. Not sure how difficult that would be for you.

Film IV is so near completion you can smell it. Tiny nitpicks being cleaned up, and then I will render the final product.

Film V should not take as long as Film IV, as it’s been worked on at the same time, but it’s further behind.

I did try to create the first film with the original GoT soundtrack, but the problem was then and is now that the Game of Thrones OST does not contain enough cinematic scope to create - what i envisioned - to be film epic’s of the TV series. The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit soundtrack does cover this, as well as the fact that it contains some of the most engaging, beautiful and magical music ever put to film.

A new look at the new Ancient Lore format, keeping to the film’s original narrative (or at least very close to it, with some few liberties) and with the new color grade. There will be added film grain later on. My previous color grade tried to mimic the less color vibrant original trilogy, but in the process i think the footage got too boring and lifeless. The original films were made in the late 70’s and early 80’s, so they’re excused.

After this sequence, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan leave onboard seperat ships like in the original film, followed by my “Invasion of Naboo” scene - know with some slightly more brutal tweaks.

I have thought about giving The Trade Federation ship’s some red lightning instead of the yellow, to make it more evil or at least definitely more sinister; as well as change up the (know) very predictable Trade Federation tone. But I’m not sure.

Also, the musical additions and alterations are to make the film more powerful from the get-go - I’m not quite sure it works, so tell me if you feel like it doesn’t. 😃

For some reason the YouTube video is a lot darker than the original product file, which might be due to the fact I’m using and editing in a 4K format, so please don’t pay attention to this.

Also, V2 will follow the original structure of the story - but with my alterations.

TAL V2: As promised.

I did promise you all a V2 after some reflecting and analysis, both on my part and the audience’s. I also promised you 5.1 audio channels and to listen to feedback. This has been the priority.

I can therefore announce that V2 is officialy in the works, and that a great deal of major decisions have been made:

• The major re-scoring is heavily trimmed down, and as much of The Phantom Menace OST that i can keep, I will keep. This does not include score additions that made the film better and that was greatly liked - such as The Invasion of Naboo.

• ALL bugs, errors and weird scenes will be removed and/or fixed.

• The additional scenes with Maul in the forest, killing Jedi, will go. Too fanfilm-y. The scene with him talking to Sidious MIGHT be kept. Let’s see how it looks once worked upon.

• The new scenes that DID work, like the opening - Maul talking to hologram Sidious on Tattooine - the ending battle sequences, The Invasion of Naboo etc. will obviously be kept. These made the films a lot better, and were changes that were indeed a welcome one.

• I’m open for adding back in some deleted scenes.

But most importantly, I’m very much opening The Ancient Lore feedback stream again; so do come with suggestions, and loads of them, if you please. 😃

My goal is still to make this into the best, and most radical, The Phantom Menace film there is.

Hey, my friend! Thank you - and I totally understand this.

Unfortunately, Film I was removed from my Google Drive through copyright infringement from HBO them self’s. I do of course take it as a compliment that the high lord’s themselfs have seen the product, but I have to abide by law.
