Question:

Does anybody knows how many different models were used for the creation of certain shots of the deathstar?

Im not concerned about the surface ones but one particular shot seems to have details that in the far shots are not visible or are there. Maybe a painting maybe a section of a more detailed model i dont know. I included some references that might light a bit this.

The second image is the original shot a bit zoomed out with better contrast detail.

The other i dont know

I love that Death Star! It's very dark and ominous. The angle, of course, makes it look like it's looming over everyone. Can't wait to eventually see this in Jaitea's edit.

Some more testing. Hoping Mr j will rid the poor tie fighters.

Note that is only a test shot. Might be different and more grand ;)

Some minor adjustments were done :) I will prepare some new light files so the Star of death will not be so dense lighted all the time.

Feedback is always welcome if something is or look wrong :)

Good work! What about the lights? Will you add them to the final cut?

if its impossible to track them all think of using camera projection or plains with light dots.

Or track each part of the ship separately. Camera tracker from the Foundry can help i assume :)

Thanks for using my idea. :)

Ady since you got new 3d toys and camera projection solutions (see the mirrored star destroyer behind the chased falcon), how about reconsider using the darken star destroyer shot when needa arrives to vader? It was quite successful as concept/idea back then.

Just a thought if you really think that will work with the now solved old problems. :)

Perhaps a bit off topic, but has anyone seen this yet? They refer to The Phantom Menace as being "revisited" on two separate occasions in this article. Hmmmm...

Its a common word.

Most of the models I'm showcasing are used in quick shots from long distance. These are higher resolution than you'll end up seeing in the movie.

Still if you are showcasing a nice work on one sector from the edit it should take the time to show it well and done. After the nice work was done in the detailed 80s accurate millennium falcon ;) Its all about promotion right?

Im with Mr J.

Pushing something into a better comp is the result of a more stylized result. Something more like a cutting edge if i can say that. Find the besterer way to show something ;)

Star wars is full of centered shots when it comes to show something.

There's something really, really great about the centered pod ejection shot, and not just because it's classic Star Wars, first effects shot they filmed, etc.

The nostalgia/originality part is not one of my principals as you said also. Again always following the emotion of art when needs a shot. Pushing the envelope each time is hard and finding ways to alter hard framed images to something else. Think limited=get limited Think new=get new. New is not always better but you can find the correct balance through time and feedback :)

I really love this! One of the coolest mockups I've seen.

As for "Where did the enter the pod?" Isn't the square hole on the right (seen in both pics above) the door they went through? So the door on the pod would be on the side like in the diagrams.

I really dunno about the window though. Might be cool to make it a display screen like Bingo mentioned.

Thanks.

Good point mate. I never thought that. having that in mind it corrects a bunch of problems :)

Call me a bit thick but isn't the hatch for the escape pod in the nose and yet the entrance seems to be at the thruster end?

Well. I thought about that. Still the reference are not to be trusted the window seems to be at the side:

Who image to trust:P

Shouldn't it eject the other way around (it would tie in with the view the droids have of the Star Destroyer)?

I might agree that its a paradox or even we assume the pod seals with the engine section offscreen. Or they enter from the sideways and the movie never explained more on where or what is happening (too focused on the story folks?)

Again see bellow on the spaceballs shot that the door is in the correct place.

I'm not sure if there would be that much room between the pod bay door and the hull for the sort of metal work in your mock up Angel.

Well that shot is short of impossible. It supposed that camera sits in after the closed door and we assume we see some of the mechanisms of the ship behind the walls.

Plus the same treatment was given in Spaceballs with very much more detail.

When 3po and r2 enters the pod room its a pretty wide (horizontaly) so i can assume that some pipe and metal work can be seen artistically.

It would be nice if you could work out how the release mechanism sits in the ship and use that as the basis for any addition to the shot.

The shot has all shorts of problems. They walk and enter in horizontal level when the pods are on the angled section of the ship

The minimum mechanisms that release the pod are enough apart we screw the shot and remake it from scratch.

Also we never got what this back wall is. A door A hatch a passage?

Its clearly missing in the long shot with 3po before he gets blasted.

Now,..... I'm interested if Ady used my mock-up of the snowspeeder air brakes or 'flaps' as they are affectionally called, in his final draft.

Its nice to see the mockups the drafts and the final shot and how many people inspired ady here.

Good work Mr J :)

I was working on this before i posted the video but, as it had taken me 4 days just to get half of the one shot done, i didn't have enough time to finish it. So here is how it will look. As you can see the glows have been almost eliminated and recovered lost detail :

Great results i must say. Good work.

Always nice to see the origin of an idea and its final use mr J :)

And to Angel, after a long time of seeing your icon/thumbnail. For some reason I thought it was some butterfly or Angel image, didnt realize it was the view through Vaders mask. Haha. Cant believe i missed that. Anyway, I'm so glad I did, because it led me down a loooong spiral and into your work on your Devientart page, those Star Wars mockup scenes are absolutely STUNNING mate!

I plowed through every one and I bloody love em! Anyone that has not seen them, I urge you to check them out. Could do with a dedicated page on this site to show them all off. I would kill to see the whole films done with those shots, just out of curiosity.

Thanks a lot mate :)

Sorry for the late response. feel free to post in the other topics and suggest radical as possible ideas.

@Ady: I recall that in one of your previous videos you fixed the damn glow on han's head when he first passes on the rounded window (when ILM changed the Background to a sunset one but the remains of the day shot was there) I was wondering if you can calm down the glows arround the heads of han lando leia and chewie when they pass on the new opened windows.

New clip:

http://youtu.be/xVZqn3tMXdk?hd=1

I like the new 3d Xwing

I dont like the blury black patch at the bottom right on dagobah . It might need slight more texture.

Very grand and impressive establishing shot. Some more distant traficking would be ideal but thats me.

I love that the sky finaly has continuity in the CG flyby shots. never got why they changed a sky so much after passing through the building

I like the new sky/BG replacement in the corridor but i think due the exposure of the shot the sky should be less visible to its original colors and be more white. Only to that shot because its daylight.

It might be a test but when the heroes are passing the circle window there is a black patch on a building.

Also when we cut in the close up of chewie the buildings are different. Again it might be an unfinished shot

Very awesome work on the opening the elevator shot. I like the new reflections on the glass

But there are the main problem. The edges. Even in this quality something is wrong with the edges are blury comparing with the rest of the shot.

I know you did your best to reconstruct the details because of the original blown up whites on the buildings but the edges when the building ends and the sky starts are blury.

Remember that all the edges on the film have that small halo (similar to the heavy one on TMP) that adds that film look. Or when the film burns from some effects like over exposure etc.

*old mockup dont mind. Focus on the edges and how they blend with the rest of the edges.*

In the shot of vader disarms han the building in the newly opened shot is very blury as well when the stormtroopers are comming. Nice to have DOF but almost all the distant buildings were just hazed never blured.

I like the new laser bolts

I hope that helps as feedback.
