I liked your mockup video, it makes more sense, although I never had a problem with the original. It should go on the wishlist at least :)
I realize this thread is rather old, but I’d love to read this comic edit. I havn’t read the Thrawn trilogy for more than a decade, so this will be refreshing 😃
I hope some coloring can be done to save HTTE, everybody and everything is green in the original!
Wow. This random versions would be a dream come true. We're decades away from being able to render good enough CG humans to replace characters in existing footage.
I didn't mean to imply I agreed with that book on the issue Bingowings, I don't, and I'm glad you're working on a new mockup that actually fits the action on screen
I dunno Darth V. but I'm sure there's an explanation (or several) in the EU ;)
Here's some scan from the "Worlds of" reference book. It supports the Palpatine death shaft/reactor shaft=Vader's lift shaft idea.
Since Picasa has given me trouble before here, I'm not going to try to embed the images:

http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/TO5jewSRc3fI9I3b3b4MNw?feat=directlink
The caption to the reactor shaft says "Open shaft surrounding turbolift yawns like an abyss and leads directly to Death Star's power core, 400 km (250 miles) below"
Although I know this is EU, it would be cool to have a hint of this:

Sorry about the scan quality, that book really is too big to fit on a scanner.
Well I didn't see it explictly on doubleofive's list, but one of the thing's that bothered me since my second viewing of ROTJ is the shot of the A-wing crashing into the Executor's bridge.
Please change that to look less like a burning car rammed through the set.
Can we get some more B-wing action in? I love the B-wing, and McQuarrie made a beautiful painting of some B-wings fleeing an exploding Star Destroyer.
Here's a random idea: what if Luke escapes the Death Star in an escape pod? It would kind of help round out the trilogy :-)
We have a shot that shows the tower of course, I noticed that on my first viewing in 1997 as a kid, but it always struck me as a not terribly imposing tower, especially after seeing the cool architecture of Coruscant. But I've always assumed the shaft led to the core, but its open whether the Emperor got there or not. After all, we never see the bottom of any of the many shafts in the other movies.
I remember a reference book saying that Anakin chose to not put skin on his hand for some reason, FWIW.
I always thought it was burnt plastic, and looking just at the screenshots I don't think it looks so bad.
Has the explosion of the shield generator bothered anyone else? I mean one of the effects people said, I think it was on the Behind the Magic computer program, that they had rented all the tree models for that shot and the explosion set them all on fire. It'd be cool to see something like that or at least an enhanced explosion.
Of course if an idea I saw earlier in this thread gets used and the shied generator is places somewhere else, like in a mountain range, then the point is moot.
Its more that the SE window doesn't in any way resemble the original, granted I havn't seen the original edition in 5 years, and that was on copy-of-a tape VHS. If we're talking about the same thing, then I'm glad you're fixing it.
Darth Venal said:But even with pics, you seem to be mistaken. The building behind Vader is visible out of the window in the second shot because the camera is looking out to the left, whereas in the first shot it's straight on and the building would be off to the left. So that's not a mistake.
And the first two pics of the entrance to the room, are they even looking at the same thing?
I'll grant your first point, it might be a POV thing, just seemed odd to me to have nothing and then something.
But the first two are of whatever is behind Lando, Han and company in front of the Vader dining room, the first one is right before Lando opens the door, the second a few seconds later, there's now a stairway behind Han and company! Lando's in both shots, and he's not moved except to open the door.
Thanks Angel, I added links to my original post too. Sorry about that everyone

Huh, I see it.

In the next scene with these two Palps tells Vader that Luke will come to him and Vader says: "He will come to me?".
Wait a minute. You were just told he would come to you in the arrival scene. What the heck is Vader talking about?
Vader's pretty distracted in the landing scene "I sense you wish to continue your search for young Skywalker", remember?
Speaking of the door, I guess its both!
Here's the doorway to the east platform:
I apologize if this has been brought up already, but here's a couple of small Bespin details:
There's the entrance to Vader's dining room:
Initially it looks like this:

But then it looks like this:

And the space behind Vader changes as well, first like this:

Then a building sprouts up in there:

EDIT: Added links to images
EDIT: Pictures removed. Bingowings

What can be done to this shot anyway?
No idea if answered before

It's already been fixed Angel :)
Hey dunno if its been mentioned but has anyone noticed that the first picture the door has black stripes and then on lando close ups they are more a dotted line?
I'm glad you're fixing it Adywan, I think there are other inconsistencies in the Bespin art, I'll try to get some screenshots.
Good point DuTwan!
Here's another artist's acretion disk FWIW:
And lastly, a real planetary nebula:
Bingowings said:Funny you should say that because it's a NASA painting of what an accretion disk might look like and not CGI at all, it's got a lot of colour in it which may give it a more PT look.
I see, oops. I've never liked NASA's artists, their work looks pretty CG, for paintings. :P
When I think accretion disk I think of something with jets, like this:
FWIW I love the prequels. I have absolutely no interest in any huge fanedit of the PT, but I don't mind that they're being made, I'm curious about Adywan's versions as many years away as they may be, only because they're (going to be) his work.
And I hated THX-1138!
Bingowings said:Seeing as everyone else seems to be raking the ashes of this discussion here was my take on the accretion disk :
Wow! Looks a little too CG for me, but very nice.
Anyway, I accept the nebula version as an old publicity still, but a weird use of one, thanks for explaining. :)
adywan said:I prefer the idea that its a forming star rather than a galaxy
It'd have to be, or something like it. The thing rotates onscreen, no galaxy can rotate that fast, as physicist Curtis Saxton points out. Can you take out the rotation at least? :p
