Nope. I definitely just saw it at my house on some sort of VHS or laserdisc. It is plausible that I could have seen it on some documentary on TV, but it would have to be in the last decade; nothing from the 80's. I do remember the scene looking like that, minus the interjected bit with R2D2 and 3PO; that surprised me.

YES!
Isn't it uncannily eerie? The whole time I was watching it I was saying the dialogue a beat in advance and was getting it generally right. I really believe I've seen this before, but I just can't find where.
Thanks Baron, that's exactly what I meant. The ability to own a high quality version of the films we sat in the theater and watched. The desire for all six films to be offered unaltered has been expressed many times here, regardless of how many of the six people may want to own.
And yes, the two trilogies look worlds apart visually. That seems to be a colossal issue for Lucas. Much less so for the fan base. However, because Lucas has time and again shown that his needs are more important than the fans' - we continue to get nothing.

I don't understand a site or other sites that openly criticize use here at originaltrilogy.com for scrutinizing the current state of the starwars franchise. The Original trilogy is the foundation of this website, and that detail alone is the backbone of the whole community here. Don't see why those other websites cant see that. I would haft to say that if your interests in the starwars franchise go beyond the original trilogy, then maybe this site is not for you. It would be better for you to stay with a community that treats all the movies equally.
i disagree
i enjoy TPM and the holiday as much as the OUT and any other forum would ridicule me for liking TPM or the OUT, we are more tolerant here for not following the "original vision" even new mod Achorhead would not fit in anywhere else because of his views of ESB onwards
Toho is right. I'd have been run out of other forums years ago. We're very welcoming to anyone who comes in peace, regardless of their area of interest in the Star Wars universe. No doubt we're much more focused on getting the originals released properly because that's the one thing Lucas refuses to do. However, we have many members who like, own, and watch the prequels.
Regarding this specifically;
Auggie - ...if your interests in the starwars franchise go beyond the original trilogy, then maybe this site is not for you. It would be better for you to stay with a community that treats all the movies equally.
I feel just the opposite. The disagreements between us and other sites comes from us wanting all the films to be treated equally - which is most certainly not happening at LFL. It's the other sites' wanting the OOT to be suppressed while more CGI is added every few years, that causes the arguments.

The unfortunate thing is that detractors simply say "look at what they're saying at thisforum.com" and then use the nutjob as the example, lumping everyone into that one basket. There's no solution to that.
No doubt that some people hear only what they want to hear, so there will always be a large contingent of Lucas Gushers who see us as mean, wrong, threatening, etc.
Because they continue to get what they want (regularly updated Original Visions), they're operating from a position of power. They have no reason to question Lucas, educate themselves on the actual history of the franchise, or look at the published evidence that he's a liar. It would also fly in the face of what they want to believe.
We can't stop that behavior, nor can we change their opinion. However, we can change ours (not that it needs much changing). We could tone down the Lucas hate a touch and prove them wrong to the new members or visitors.
We're not as bad as they see us - not even close - but all it takes are a few buffoons and it will appear to a casual visitor as though they were right about us. We most likely won't get this time in the spotlight again.
Love the fact that he's just releasing the original, which I'm a big fan of (never saw the SE). I'll definitely be buying this one.

absolute hatred of Marcia and anything associated to Marcia (star wars/thx1138 /etc)
^This.
Hatred is maybe too strong a word but I think he is self harming his past to spite his more visibly confident present.
I have to say this is one of the more prominent thoughts I have also, when I bother to think about it. I also agree that hatred may be too strong a word. More of a control issue - my films, my ideas, my vision, my story, my thoughts, etc.
I think along those same lines (ego) there could be a tinge of not wanting to let go of being the man\the legend.
Unlike his contemporaries, he didn't go on to have a huge body of work or academy award winning films. After Raiders, he became much less prominent. The Indiana Jones franchise is largely seen as a tetralogy of Spielberg films starring Harrison Ford.
Keeping his Original Vision fluid is one way of keeping Star Wars in the public eye. Sort of an all publicity is good publicity thing. The latest Original Vision is full of changes that have angered even some of the most ardent Kool-aid drinkers.
However people may feel about them - two-star Amazon rating, major newspapers & blogs discussing the let down, Facebook boycotts, etc - they're still being talked about constantly. Star Wars is still a phenomenon, and that may be very important to Lucas.

you know there are only four venomous types in Texas. Rattlers, Copperheads, Cottonmouths (water moccasins), and Coral Snakes.
Fortunately, my days as a Boy Scout helped with snake safety quite a bit, so I know which to really avoid. However, some of the non-venomous can deliver quite a painful bite, so I just stay clear of all. I get a fair number of Ribbon snakes in my back yard, never bitten though.
They like to sit up high in the rose bushes, getting sun, out of the reach of my dogs maybe. Even so, every now and then my guys will get one and bring it inside as a gift. Always very proud of their kill, tail wagging, happy they did something to help the pack.
Man, that whole going into the house and not knowing where the thing is, or what it is - I'd have an elevated heart rate for sure.
Lucas sold the rights to the radio version of Star Wars to USC for one dollar. He allowed Brian Daley and USC free reign to write and present the story they wanted. He also allowed them full access to the sound effects library and film score.
Where that NPR version of Star Wars is concerned, he was as unselfish and uncontrolling as he could be. Since that NPR version of Star Wars is my go-to for the story, his generosity and lack of meddling is something I'm very grateful for.

...a rather wobbly looking bumble bee plopped out and slowly began to stagger across the kitchen floor.
I'm feeling a bit worried for her today though as we are currently suffering the sloppy seconds of Hurricane Katia.
All bumblebees - except the queen - die in autumn. It may just be its time to go. I do the same thing though, taking bugs outside and putting them on leaves. Remember; Unlike honey bees, bumble bees can sting repeatedly.

Of course, here in Texas just about every party is an outdoor barbeque, and of course, the bees seem attracted to those.
That's because we make the best barbecue there is. ;-) Well, that and all the sweet smells of sugary drinks that inevitably get opened and left sitting out.
The way you and Frink are with bees, I'm that way with snakes. I go out of my way to avoid them. I have some land in the pineywoods north of Houston and I'm never without my snake boots - even though I've never seen a snake out there.
Like Frink mentioned though, if you're allergic, that's a very good reason to stay clear.

Didn't he donate half his profit to charity, or something?
It's called The Giving Pledge, and yes, he's agreed to donate more than half his worth to education.

They came from behi...
Very nearly an actual spit-take. ;-)
I stand by my original thoughts on the subject;
Another Johnny-Come-Lately who falls into the camp of there being only two thoughts on Star Wars - theirs and all the wrong ones. It came online after the BR was announced, criticizes people who don't want or support them, and states early on that no comments will be allowed unless they agree with the blogger. No thanks.
With our combined strength, we can end this destructive confl......I mean...uh.. we can get rid of some spambots and inappropriate posts.

Let me just say one thing: Lucas wears a "Han shot first" t-shirt.
You think he's ignorant to the "NOooo" hate?
In San Francisco for a few days. Two Giants games and three vineyards. Hold down the fort.
True, but we're getting a louder voice these days. If he won't listen to us, he may listen to a two star rating on Amazon or heat from more than just a fellow director or two.

It's just another example of people tossing out meaningless hyperbolic catch-phrases and terminology they don't understand to make things sound scary or bad. I unwittingly get enough of that just walking by when someone is watching the 'news', and I'd really appreciate it if it would stop being done here.
Also, some of our more perspective-lacking members might want to seriously think about getting some kind of counseling or treatment. Willful failure to restore and release a series of films <<<<<<<<< war crimes. Seriously—stow it with the depressive crap already.
I agree. As a petition\discussion forum, we are in a different place than we were several years ago. We're no longer a community that only other Star Wars nerds know about (whether they support us or not). We are getting mention in respected blogs and on-line magazines.
Our community has also given rise to a now published and respected Star Wars historian - whom the Library Of Congress now directs people to for Star Wars fact checking.
With this release of the Blu-rays and the problems & lies surrounding them, there is new acknowledgment of our cause, as well as a spike in outspoken celebrities and mainstream bloggers calling attention to us (sometimes directly).
I'm disappointed that interested new members may come here looking for usable information and instead see bickering, Lucas-bashing, and trolling. We can do better. We need to do better if things are ever going to change. Constructive, truthful, emotionally-driven criticism is one thing, and I'm all for it. Comparing Lucas to a Nazi is just going to get us ridiculed - or worse - ignored.
Personally, I'd like to see the original theatrical versions released - not who can post the best insult or the most obnoxious tall building picture. Save it for Thunderdome Off-Topic.

You sure about that?
American Graffiti is one of my all time Top Ten and, I think, George's finest hour. It's very much like my high school days.

Very nice.
Honestly, I never give any thought to how horrible current DVD cover art is because there are so many talented people out there doing things that far surpass what is usually offered. I don't have to worry about being stuck with the terrible studio photoshop versions that are so common these days.
