Star Wars I - VIII Matching DVD covers?

I didn’t see any DVD sets

Probably because most of us have BDs. Honestly not trying to be rude, Blu Ray just eclipsed DVD a long time ago so most people don’t bother anymore with custom DVD art.

Personally, while I’m all for BR, I think DVD cases look much better than those ridiculous short blue things. The discs are the same size, so you fit a BR disc in a DVD case.

I would add that the only guy who could challenge Lucas is, to my knowledge, Gary Kurtz. Not even Spielberg can challenge Lucas. But Kurtz did that on 3 movies he produced for Lucas.

That didn’t last, though. He only produced the first two before creative differences drove him away from the third. He couldn’t change Lucas’s mind, so he walked away.

The Worst Scene/Sequence in Any Star Wars Film
Time

The scene with C-3PO getting his head swapped in AotC is by far the worst scene in the entire SW saga.

I think she’s better known as a Disney character in the U.S. than a literary one.

Poppins In space? That would confirm my theory Miss Poppins is actually a Time Lord. 😉

Well, there was Missy doing a ‘Scary Poppins’ routine in Doctor Who recently… maybe that’s not so impossible either then! 😄

Snoke is the Master confirmed?

I responded enthusiastically to my first watch of TLJ, and should emphasize that I don’t agree with the haters on the majority of things they love to complain and rave about it for. BUT on re-watching, it didn’t really hold up. Not because of FEMALES or anything like that, but because the main quality that made me feel excited watching it the first time – its subversiveness and unpredictability – no longer applied. Which meant that all that was left was the basic elements of the film – plot, character development, dialogue, etc. – and they had to stand on their own. And that meant an overlong movie filled with too many jokes that didn’t land, situations that made no sense, and characters that behaved stupidly.

Not to mention the hat trick Johnson pulled to make it feel like he was creating something fresh and bold was obvious on re-watch, and consequently it in fact feels even less original than The Force Awakens at times – i.e. the Snoke scene is literally almost verbatim the same as the Emperor scene in ROTJ, just with a TWIST. Luke sacrificed himself like Obi-Wan did, but it was more EXTREME. And so on. It remains somewhat interesting as a deconstruction of Star Wars, but in the end Johnson didn’t really capture what I personally like about Star Wars. That is especially clear when watched back-to-back with Solo, which DID capture what I like about Star Wars to a greater extent.

Interesting observation. I have yet to rewatch TLJ, but now I suspect this might become an issue when I do.

I don’t think I’ve updated my list in a while, at least since Solo. It changes quite often except for #1 and #2 so why not.

  1. Revenge of the Sith
  2. A New Hope

Same here.

  1. The Phantom Menace

Sure, why not.

  1. Attack of the Clones

Okay, what have you been smoking.

TV Show rankings:

  1. Clone Wars (2003)
  2. Droids
  3. Ewoks
  4. The Clone Wars (2008 Onwards)
  5. Rebels

You seriously put the 80s cartoons over Clone Wars '08? As mediocre as it is, even Rebels probably deserves to be above those.

Not huge on CGI animated shows. I respect that The Clone Wars especially has very good story telling, but I’ve never liked CGI shows no matter what the branding, and I’ve watched The Clone Wars from start to finish. I dunno, the aesthetics bother me. I realise that’s a personal thing though.

I can’t understand how you can dismiss a show purely based on aesthetic. I love Code Lyoko, and that show looks hideous.

Episodes I - VI will always trump all as far as I’m concerned, their ordering is purely viewing preference. The Disney anthology films I get a huge amount of enjoyment out of. Was very surprised by Solo especially, a lot of fun.

Certainly a feeling I can relate to.

The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread

Something that’s always pestered me is that of the six original movies, there are 10 light saber duels and half of them as in ROTS. Most movie had one proper big “duel” towards the end, but ROTS has:

  1. Obi-Wan and Anakin VS Dokou
  2. Obi-Wan VS Grevious
  3. Mace Windu VS Palpatine
  4. Yoda VS Palpatine
  5. Obi-Wan VS Anakin

I wonder if this can be changed. Count Dokou is hard to fix because it is so instrumental to the plot. The only thing I can think of is cutting after Obi-Wan goes unconscious to when we wakes up in the elevator shaft. Not the best fix, but this duel really lacks stakes.

For Grevious- what if he wasn’t a Jedi Killer, but merely a tactician? When it comes to fighting he will always run and hide, and now without Count Dokou it is only a matter of time before the Jedi hunt him down. His only purpose would be to provide a reason for Obi-Wan to be away from Coruscant. The entire duel is cut and the focus is kept on Anakin and Palpatine.

The Mace duel could be cut entirely save the opening conversation and finale. We only see what Anakin sees: Mace holding Palpatine at saberpoint.

The only thing the Yoda duel does is diminish to great powerful characters into video game bosses, so it should be cut entirely.

The Mustafar duel is epic, but could be trimmed. After watching Duel of the Fates I noticed there was a 10 minute gap and when it returned the characters were all in different places. This created the allusion the battle had been going for hours, and as we all know they mind always does it better than when explicitly told. So what if there was a cut after the first couple minutes to the lava ocean towards the end?

Over the years I’ve thought about this a lot. The conclusion I came to is that the only duel that can really be cut out is the Grievous one. However, you bring up a good point about reducing the office duel to just what Anakin sees. It’s a shame to have to cut that duel, but then again, at least that lends more natural to leaving the Jedi’s deaths to the imagination. Personally, I wouldn’t cut the whole duel, but most of it.

Also worth noting is that no matter how much of the other duels you cut, the Mustafar one remains the longest, being half of all duel time in a film with more than twice the average duel time. So funny enough, if you removed the duel everyone came for, the duel time becomes reasonable.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire [Revisited/Remade] (Released)
Time

Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire is the kind of Harry Potter movie that, as for my passion and mind, requires a totally different kind of work. Just like Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets, it has many weak beats and pacing issues - as well as a narrative full of oddities, but the thing that really stands out for GoF is a horrible original score that horrifyingly resembles Pop Music or a weird Potter-remix. The score has its moments, but most of it is really not cohesive as for the rest of the series on-going themes. Like the opening intro for instance (DUN-DUDUD-- EEEH-EEEEH- DUN-DUDU - EEEH-EEEEH) that sounds like some horror house trance music.

You take that back! Harry in Winter is a masterpiece, and out of all the films’ intros, GoF has by far the best re-interpretation of Hedwig’s Theme (the original is still the best, of course).

Maul is on Naboo killing Jedi, whilst the Queen is trying to save Naboo. The two scenes compliment eachother, and shows us how darkness is growing and Naboo falling just whilst she is speaking of it.

I guess the disconnect comes from the fact that they’re discussing the invasion, not the Sith. If you had footage of the TF doing bad things, then I could understand.

They are discussing the invasion, which is caused by the Federation who are in co-operation with the Sith. I think you’re missing the point. The scenes compliment eachother because Amidala discuss the crisis of her planet, in which - at the same time - we show what is going on at the planet.

The problem is that the scene doesn’t show the people suffering, it shows the Sith returning. The only person dying is some Jedi, i.e. not of the Naboo.

Star Wars saga - Extra Extended Edition (1080p) (* unfinished project / WIP *)
Time

I’m in favor of going the route of a lost film reconstruction. Also worth pointing out we have the Forces of Destiny shorts to work with. They probably would just be extra fat, but then again, isn’t the whole purpose of this project to make the films as long as possible? That said, this may be straying too far in that they’re not scenes that were originally intended to be included.
