Sounds reasonable.

Luke force-throws a newer most dangerous ever Death Star into a supernova and saves the galaxy. The movie makes $500 million. Fans wonder why Kenobi or Luke didn’t do that to the other Death Stars or Starkiller. Some moderator on TFN proclaims that their force powers weren’t strong enough, but Luke trained for 30 years until he could do it. He found some ancient training method from some obscure world in some EU or Legends novel. Then someone asks why The Emperor didn’t force-throw the entire Rebel Fleet to the other side of the galaxy. Then a few people cry out “it’s just a movie, who cares!”

I fully expect these things to happen in the next movie. This is the direction the franchise has been going for almost 20 years.

I like to think that Luke has transcended to an OT-Yoda-like state where he won’t be whipping out his saber to backflip all around.

None of these filmmakers these days seem to be concerned with storytelling, or maybe their producers don’t allow them, but either way, I think the odds are much higher that Luke will fly around with “Force Fly” or cast spaceships into supernovas.

Rogue One has earned the #3 spot on my list, right between ANH and TFA. This movie is making me think about what it would take to remove TESB and ANH from my 1 and 2 spots. The nostalgia factor definitely plays a role.

I’ve been thinking about it also that will anything ever top SW and TESB but I can’t even think a scenario where that could happen.

Same. Disney has given me two good Stat Wars movies but I’m curious if they ever will make one that I like better than SW and ESB. If I had to bet my money on it, I’d say episode 8 has the best chance.

It would be wonderful if they gave us something in the same league as Star Wars or Empire Strikes Back. Since that’s unlikely, I would be happy with a very good movie in the same league as Return of the Jedi. The problem with these new films is that they are just not very good. While I want something in the same spirit as the original trilogy, I don’t want fanservice. I want a fresh new film with a clear vision and expert filmmaking.

Just for your own edification, this is not what dramatic irony means. Dramatic irony occurs when the audience is privy to information that a character is not, which in turn creates suspense or humour depending on the genre of the story in question.

Which is what happens when you, the viewer, have already seen the movie before and already know what will happen next, but the character in the story does not.

I saw one dude whose girlfriend had never seen a Star Wars film before. Rogue One was her first and she was excited when told they could watch the sequel when they got home.

I hope they watched the Despecialized version. Although I’d still like to see a mostly original version that includes some vfx enhancements like the CGI shots on Battle of Yavin, Alderaan/Death Star explosions, just some things like that.

Like Adywan’s Revisited?

Not necessarily. I like a lot of Adywan’s work, but I think my preference is for more OOT with fewer changes. I just like the upgraded effects on the Falcon, the Alderaan and Death Star explosions, Yavin and Endor space battles, and maybe some of the work done on the windows and escort ships in Cloud City.

I’ve never been able to decide if I prefer Adywan’s Emperor hologram in ESB or the original, but I know that I really really hate the one Lucasfilm put in there to match with the prequels.

Handman you just don’t get it! The point of the comparison is that The Force Awakens is better than every other Star Wars movie. The tradition of stating the original and Empire are the best is too ingrained in our culture, that we all feel compelled to ritualistically acknowledge they are the best and the The Force Awakens is right behind them, but really, deep down in our hearts, we all know the Force Awakens is the greatest movie of all time!!!

There’s a thread in off topic about praising another poster. A day or two ago I praised you for being much more reasonable now than when TFA came out.

I now regret my foolish post in that thread.

I don’t know what you want. I’ve always been a mediocre poster, but I do have good taste.

Rogue One will probably be on blu-ray in April. Releasing Star Wars in a 40th Anniversary edition in May would be great cross promotion. You have the film that Rogue One leads to. You have the original version, not seen in years and you can stick a trailer for Episode 8 on it to add to the excitement. It would be a win.

I think there is zero chance they are going to cannibalize sales of RO with some other major release.

When did Lord Haseo jump the shark? I mean his views on the movies were always bad, but I remember him at least being pleasant about it. Now every post is **** this and you’re an ass that. Try being more civil and don’t take it so personal when people have different taste than you.

Edit: well, I guess the post about wanting to see Vader kill Jedi shines a light on things. The dark side is strong in this one.

George Lucas says that he already wanted the first Star Wars to be named Episode IV when it was originally released because it was the adaptation of the middle section of an extensive script he had written. But I am not sure how much truth is in that.

Gary Kurtz says otherwise, and quite understandably, anytime statements by Gary Kurtz and George Lucas are contradictory, I will believe Gary Kurtz.
