Since when did ROTJ become less highly regarded than even Episodes II or III?
Time

I don't think it's less highly regarded than any of the PT, at least not on this board. The prevailing opinion here seems to be:

-SW & ESB

-ROTJ

-Prequels

In that order. Personally, I would never consider ROTJ anywhere near as bad as the PT. But at the same time, I don't think it really stacks up against its predecessors, either. Granted, when I was a child it was easily my favorite of the three. My views have since matured, but I still find it very enjoyable (if somewhat cringe-inducing in a few places). ROTJ I like. SW and ESB I really like. The PT I utterly despise (aside from Frink's treatments, of course). And while I can't claim to speak for everyone, it does seem to be the majority opinion in the circles I run in.

I'll be damned, Kasdan back into Star Wars again. Interesting, I never thought I would see the day. I know that I'm not alone to f***ing love that guy for the simple reason that he penned two of the best adventure films of all time - Raiders and ESB. But he was a hungry 30 year old screenwriter back then just as Lucas was a young hungry filmmaker back then.

With the risk of being a killjoy as I know people are excited by these news... you simply don't get the kind of movie magic you got with the first two SW-films by just bringing back the old guys. Back in the early 90's, did anyone think Lucas was a bad choice to write and direct Episode 1? Back in '79 was Kersh the name on everyone's lips on who they wanted to direct Star Wars II? Lightning in a bottle don't happen by design. And the words on bringing back the old cast... well, I get Indy 4 vibes all over again. Sorry if I sound so damn pessimistic about it but I honestly feel this is 20 years too late.

Agreed. Although "Lawrence Kasdan to write new Star Wars film" is undeniably a far better headline than "George Lucas to write new Star Wars film," you'll understand if I withhold optimism until well after the new movies have hit the theaters. We've been burned too much in the past; fool me once shame on you, fool me twice...

Please Sign My Petition At Whitehouse.gov.
Time

I cannot sign this petition on the grounds that its proposed policy discriminates against those who don't like steamed rye bread. I propose instead the formation of a special interest lobbying group that will work towards governmental recognition of "those who don't like steamed rye bread" as a protected minority group.

Good luck getting your bill through Congress after my special interest group has worked its magic, you rye-supremacist.

No disagreement here. I've never seen him in anything else, so I don't pretend to know whether he has any acting talent at all. Even if he did, though, the PT never gave him an opportunity to let it rise to the surface. Even extremely talented actors can only do so much with utterly deplorable writing and directing, and the PT was chock-full of both...

you know, it is becoming more and more tempting for me to say that we should take all the Akins, the Palins,  the Bachmanns, the Limbaughs, Trump and all the tea party people and Xhonzi,  ship them all to Texas, and throw Texas out of the union(heck just for the fun it, sell Texas back to Mexico).    But that wouldn't be right.

Is this sentiment representative of the vaunted liberal tolerance and pluralism I keep hearing about? "They disagree with us, so let's kick 'em out!"? Very inspiring.

Agreed. My beef is more with the character than with the actor, and that goes for both Jake and Hayden. (Though, that being said, the bad acting didn't help matters much. Admittedly, much or most of the blame for those poor performances should be shouldered by George Lucas, especially in the case of Jake Lloyd.)

Christmas Traditions and Santa's Friends REQUESTING HELP FROM UK CITIZENS, SEE PAGE 4
Time

Hey, you forgot about the Winter-demon Perchta! Here in America, children who don't behave are put on Santa's "naughty list" and might receive coal in their stockings. In Austria, naughty children can expect Perchta to slice open their bellies around Christmastime and rip out their internal organs. (I'm not making this up!)

If there's a logical reason for an OT character to appear, I'm all for it. It's just natural to wonder how our old friends ended up after all these years. I can even survive Anakin's ghost showing up, if it's important to the plot.

We probably could all agree on which character we don't want to see return though? ;)

Actually, I was going to say Hayden's Anakin (IMO, even more devastating to the PT's integrity than Jar-Jar, Kung Fu Yoda, and the Neimodians combined).

Stardust is like Casablanca compared to the PT.  But then again, you could say the same thing for just about any movie today.

Man, I just can't see it. Admittedly, the PT is bad. Really bad. But the worst of the worst? I can't agree. IMHO, Stardust is equal only to Graham Baker's Beowulf (1999) and Nick Willing's Jason and the Argonauts (2000) in terms of sheer cringe-worthy embarrassing rottenness. I'd rather sit through any or all of the PT than suffer through Stardust again.

Yes, that is primarily what I'm referring to. Not that it really bothered me that much in the X-Men franchise, but I'd really hate to see even more of the same continuity errors that plagued the PT-OT relationship extended into the ST as well. (Granted, Vaughn may not have been responsible for those continuity issues, and, as you say, X3 may be shortly retconned [we can only hope and pray]. My primary problem with Vaughn stems from Stardust; I genuinely enjoyed X-Men: First Class.)

I would love to see J. Michael Straczynski at the helm. I can think of almost no one more qualified for a project such as this.

Also, I'm a bit disturbed by all the Stardust love in this thread. That steaming pile of dreck makes the PT look like cinematic perfection in comparison. To quote Philip French, it "fails on every level and plumbs new depths of camp embarrassment." X-Men First Class was, admittedly, handled quite well (despite one or two continuity issues). But Stardust was so mind-numbingly awful, I'd feel pretty uneasy if Vaughn got the job.
