I'm hoping that they completely disregard the EU when making the ST. Trying to have a good story that can follow on from ROTJ, while trying to have the EU as canon and having to stick to the plotlines etc that have come from them, would just be too constricting.

throw it all out and just have the continuity stick with what was in the movies only and we may have the chance of a good ST. Sure the EU fanboys will be up in arms about it, the same way as they have been about the Clone Wars series destroying part of the EU, but it's the only serious way a ST could be done especially if it has Luke, Leia and Han in it.

I would agree to a slightly more moderate form of this. There are certain foundational elements established in the early days of the EU that I would hate to see contradicted or retconned (such as the establishment of the New Republic with its governmental seat on Coruscant, Luke's Jedi Academy on Yavin IV, and Han and Leia having their three children [Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin]), and I'm no "EU fanboy" by any stretch of the imagination. Beyond those foundational elements, however, I'm in favor of the EU's various plotlines being completely ignored, since, as you say, any attempt to harmonize the ST with all of them would be utterly constricting. (Especially given the horrifically tangled and incoherent nature that has come to characterize the EU's "web" in recent decades.)

Sorry for the lack of updates, but things are going a little slower than i had hoped with the renovation of the house. I've still got at least another months worth of work to do on it before i can build my workstation in the new room and set my main PC up again. So work won't continue until at least November/ December now. This means that a 2012 release is unfortunately impossible to achieve any more. With the renovation work on the house and the fact that my Daughter is due to have her baby at the beginning of December, which means i will be travelling all the way to Shrewsbury quite a lot, it will be difficult to fit a lot, if any, work on the edit in during this time. But ou should hopefully start to see a lot more regular updates appearing from around the New Year with some behind the scenes footage too.

Again, I'm sorry this is taking so long to finish, but real life does get in the way at times. Thank you all for being so patient.

Just to add something to this little aspect at this point - a while back I was lucky enough to get a screenshot preview of the way that adywan intends to re-do his version of the 'Torture Droid's needle.

Although I can't divulge it's description, I'd just like to confirm that most people should absolutely love his latest version!  It looks terrific and I'm looking forward to seeing it in motion. :)

Yeah, I got to see it too. It's pretty sweet! In fact, as much as I hate to be the guy who goes around ruining all the surprises, I just can't help sharing the screenshot with the rest of you. Enjoy:

London 2012, Olympics
Time

It's been said before, but I'll echo the sentiment: NBC's Olympics coverage sucks. I was really looking forward to seeing South Korea take on the USA in the volleyball semifinals, but instead NBC decided to cover...synchronized swimming. Lame. "I know, I'll just go watch it streaming online," I thought...except NBC has Olympics coverage buttoned up over here, and their online streaming site requires you to have cable service, which I don't. So much for the "connected  age."

Thankfully, I poked around and found a European site that's streaming the match with no proxy required. Pretty close match so far, but we've been consistently edging Korea out when it counts. Two sets down, one to go, and Korea seems to be choking. Honestly, they're both excellent teams, and Kim Yeon-Koung is a dangerous opponent, but so far I just haven't seen anyone with the ability to deliver as consistently as the current US women's team. You've gotta admire this kind of talent. Destinee Hooker, in particular, is impressive; I don't think we'd have gotten nearly as far as we have without her.

Edit: So much for Korea choking; they seem to have caught their second wind. Still, USA's leading in points and in sets, and Korea's got a long way to go if they want to catch up.

Edit 2: Game over. Korea put up a very good fight, but it just wasn't good enough. Here's hoping NBC actually decides to broadcast the gold medal match on Saturday.

If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place

FWIW, I can appreciate Warb's point of view. The purpose of his thread wasn't so much to debate the various merits (or lack thereof) of the Olympic games in general, it was to discuss the particulars of the current games. The discussion that erupted in Warb's Olympic thread really belonged more properly in the politics thread. Warb wasn't interested in a spirited debate about nationalism, so he was understandably a little torqued when his thread was hijacked in that direction.
