"We have a new enemy: the young rebel who destroyed the Death Star. I have no doubt this boy is the offspring of Anakin Skywalker."

"How is that possible?" -Emperor Palp and Vader during the hologram scene in Empire.

this was the line that was in the novel. it would've fit the story much better. of course, there was the EU, i support btw. but if ur going off those who don't read the EU, the line would fit better.

instead of vader saying, "And im sure skywalker is with them!" he should've said, "And im sure the jedi is with them!"

or just take that line out entirely.

Why? The revisionist dialogue is almost as poorly-delivered as it is written; why bother changing the storyline to allow for it? That Vader is aware of Skywalker's identity is supported not only by the line of dialogue that you would change, but also in the opening crawl:

The evil lord Darth Vader,
obsessed with finding young
Skywalker, has dispatched
thousands of remote probes into
the far reaches of space...

So I don't really see how the dialogue you quoted above would've "fit the story much better" when the story itself would have to be altered or gutted to allow for it!

A new edit of Empire Strikes Back (Released)

Eh...I'm on board with the concept of replacing Clive with Ian, but the execution of that concept that we got in '04 = epic fail.

Not only is the dialogue blindingly stupid; moreover, the ESB Palpy looks nothing like the ROTJ Palpy. The cowl is messed up very badly, as is his makeup. In fact, he oddly looks identical to the amusingly non-threatening and un-scary Sidious of ROTS, so now we're forced to make believe that he didn't age at all between ROTS and ESB, but then underwent advanced aging in the year or so between ESB and ROTJ...it's just stupid.

Add to that the over-the-top delivery. Chimp-eyes may not have looked great, but Clive's delivery was miles better than what he's been replaced with...

Well, that's this discussion point that I don' t understand. Sorry. You could talk during years and so... What's happening during that time ?

Allow me to go a bit more far and to propose an extention to the thread title:

Can anything else be done to ANH after Adywan, and who's gonna do it ? (!)

... Because that's the question that comes in my mind when I see this topic... Unless you're working on it yet, Bingo. So pease, let me ask.

I don't see what there is to be so worked up over. This is a discussion forum. The point of this thread is to discuss what further edits and cuts to ANH might be attempted. Exactly who's going to attempt the edit is despite the point; the discussion is taking place for the benefit of anyone who might attempt such an edit.

"No, seriously... which one's your favorite?"

Films: Growing up, my favourite was Return of the Jedi, hands down. When I got a little older, it was surpassed in my mind by Empire, which has subsequently been surpassed by ANH:R. So, I guess you could say my current favorite is ANH:R, but the entire OT is so good, it's hard to choose. (The PT, on the other hand...)

Books: I, Jedi is probably my all time favorite so far as Star Wars books go, followed closely by the X-Wing Squadron and Wraith Squadron series by Michael Stackpole and Aaron Alston (Except for Starfighters of Adumar). I'm also quite fond of Zahn's Thrawn trilogy, though I didn't care much for his later books. When I was younger, I quite enjoyed Kevin J. Anderson's Jedi Academy Trilogy, but it's been quite a few years since I've read it, so I'm not sure whether or not I'd still find it as readable. Other than those selections, I've found virtually everything EU unpalatable (aside from a few of the short stories in the Tales of... books). The original novelizations of Star Wars, Empire and Return are pretty good, too.

Games: I really like the KOTOR games, though the fact that #2 is incomplete will always infuriate and annoy me. TIE fighter was also really quite excellent. For some good mindless Star Wars fun, Battlefront 2 is kicks and giggles. Also, so far as RPGs go, I really enjoyed West End's Star Wars Roleplaying Game system. I refuse to touch the Wizards of the Coast system, on principle. (If I want to play DND, I'll bloody play DND...no need to go adulterating every other fictitious universe with the same system).

Sadly, most EU is farfetched and over-the-top. I really stopped caring after Salvatore wrecked everything with the utter stupidity that is NJO...but it wasn't long after that that the PT came along and tainted everything, anyway. Just about everything Star Wars that comes out these days, even if not overtly PT-era, is nevertheless influenced by the awfulness that is PT, so I try to stay away from the EU scene entirely, in keeping with the difficult task of forgetting the PT ever came into existence. (I made the mistake of listening to the audio book of Tatooine Ghost by Troy Denning. Big mistake! That book was stupider than Greedo shooting first.)

I desperately want restored copies of the OOT in high quality, but that being said, I don't know that I'd sit down and watch Star Wars too frequently; for me, the definitive version of this movie is ANH:R. The 97 and 2004 SEs can just fade away silently into the night, and I'll never miss them. But it would indeed be a crime to see Star Wars77 (and its two sequels, of course) forever blotted out of cinema history.

He may do that, he did it with the Ben/Vader fight in Star Wars. There's nothing wrong with the duels as such, just that the prequels had much better choreography and they make them look a little pedestrian.

I disagree. Aside from a few shots in Duel of the Fates, the PT lightsabre duels look contrived, rehearsed, and choreographed. Of course, that's because the duels in all of the Star Wars movies are in fact contrived, rehearsed, and choreographed, but the OT duels (aside from ANH, of course) don't look that way. In Luke's duels with Vader, it really looks like they're each trying to skewer one another. In the PT duels, it just looks like each contender is trying to swing his sabre around fancily and make contact with the other's blade.

Sure, the PT battles look pretty. So do acrobat routines, parades, and rock concert choreography, but there's no real danger to be found. I prefer my lightsabre duels to be a little more realistic and spontaneous, myself. The PT duels are many things to many people, but they certainly aren't spontaneous, or believable.
