Episode II: Attack of the Ridiculousness ***NEW 14 MONTH ANNIVERSARY DVD NOW AVAILABLE***
Time

I thought that "The Saga Begins" worked really well in The Ridiculous Menace, and would love to see Weird Al songs incorporated into the next two edits, too. Some ideas:

-"I Think I'm a Clone Now," track 5 on Even Worse. Could work well when Obi-Wan is being given a tour of the Kaminoan's cloning facility.

-"Slime Creatures from Outer Space," track 7 on Dare to be Stupid. Might be amusing over any of the scenes featuring battle with the Geonosians.

-"Yoda," track 5 on Dare to be Stupid. Might go well either with Yoda's duel in this movie, or in the next.

-"Fun Zone," track 11 on UHF Motion Picture Soundtrack. Just a nice peppy, up-beat, kinda silly, instrumental piece that might work well in any number of scenes.

Episode I: The Ridiculous Menace (FULL MOVIE IS AVAILABLE TO STREAM, SEE FIRST POST)
Time

Ok, just finished watching this. Truly hilarious and entertaining. Kudos, Frink; I don't think I've ever had so much fun watching a Star Wars prequel.

What I especially liked:

-"Now there are two of them!"

-"The boy will never pass the council's tests. He's too short!"

-"What if it is true? And it's the truth?"

-Obi-Wan vs. Maul video game footage

What I didn't like so much:

Only two things worth mentioning here. First of all, I was a bit put off by Anakin's "R2, see if you can get us off this [song], it's gonna get us both killed." Having most the line in English and just one word subtitled felt really forced to me. When it comes time to do the Special Edition, I would recommend changing this so that the entire line is Hutteese and subtitled.

Second, and maybe I'm just showing my ignorance here, but what was the deal with the "Do not want" subtitle under Obi-Wan's first "Noooooooo!" I didn't get it.

Also, one idea I had for anothing recurring gag (throughout the series): Given Lucas' propensity for including visuals of ships landing and taking off throughout the prequels, I thought it would be funny to hear loud breaking sounds (like dropped glass, or whatever) whenever we see a ship land. Just a thought.

Again, nicely done. Lookin' forward to the next one.

The score that Williams created is without question one of the most recognizable pieces of music out there. Even 40 years later, children can identify when Darth Vader is about to come into a scene just by hearing it.

Assuming they're referring to the "Imperial March" (which seems likely), someone needs to revoke their Geek credentials. That theme didn't appear until Empire...

This struck me as the most ironic part of that CBS article...

In a statement, former Sen. Chris Dodd, who is now chairman and CEO of the MPAA, called the blackout day a "gimmick."

"It's a dangerous and troubling development when the platforms that serve as gateways to information intentionally skew the facts to incite their users in order to further their corporate interests," Dodd said.

Yeah, because politicians never intentionally skew any information in their favor.   ,':-/

...telephone rings...
"Hello Kettle?  This is Pot.  You're black."

That's racist!!

Also, Re: paperclipping. Yes, that does happen quite a bit. It's one of the many tactics our politicians have devised to circumvent the will of the people when they decide that they know what's best for us and we don't. I could definitely see this happening with the substance of SOPA and PIPA sometime in the future...

Question for Harry Potter fans
Time

In case anyone's interested/curious, Just thought I'd mention that I finished this project a couple weeks ago. All in all, it was pretty easy. The simplest film was the Half-Blood prince (no work required) while the hardest was definitely Deathly Hallows part 2.

Contrary to what you might expect, not one plot-essential scene was rendered incomprehensible by the editing. For the final battle of Deathly Hallows 2 (which posed the biggest challenge), my task was made easier by the fact that the fighting takes place on multiple fronts. The Harry-Voldemort scenes were able to be left intact, and during the Ron-Hermoine-Nagini sequences there were sufficient reaction shots without the snake visible that I was able to leave untouched, thus creating something of an interesting "strobe light" effect and allowing the action to be trackable.

Thanks for the ideas and input, everyone.

This thread makes no sense at all!

It's like Chewbacca! Consider: Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk. But Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now think about it; that does not make sense! Why would a Wookiee, an 8-foot-tall Wookiee, want to live on Endor, with a bunch of 2-foot-tall Ewoks? That does not make sense! But more important, you have to ask yourself: What does this have to do with this thread? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this thread! It does not make sense!

None of this makes sense! And so you have to remember, when you're deliberatin' and conjugatin' the Emancipation Proclamation, does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen, it does not make sense! If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit! The defense rests.

Question for Harry Potter fans

If you want to go the easy route, you could place a bug on the screen whenever a viper is about to appear and a noise or tone when the reptile scene is over.

Or, you could simply place a black box over the creatures. :/

That's the basic idea. For plot-important scenes, delete the video on frames where snakes are shown, leaving the audio. That way the screen blanks out, but you can still hear what's going on, thus tracking the storyline to some degree. Like I said, it worked pretty well with the Indiana Jones films. Created sort of a "strobe light" effect during the escape from the well of the souls, but it was actually less distracting than you'd think. I'm not going for quality worthy of a public release, just a quick hack-n-slash treatment that's watchable and followable.

The reason I wanted to get everyone's input on a list of "offending" scenes is so that I don't accidentally miss one.

Question for Harry Potter fans
Time

This is a somewhat unusual request, but I need your help compiling a list of all the scenes with snakes in the Harry Potter series. You see, my wife wants to watch the series with me, but she's mortally frightened of snakes. Even the sight of one on the TV screen is enough to give her a panic attack, and from the few times I've seen some of these movies, I recall that snakes and snake-like motifs are featured prominently. My solution? Do a quick-and-dirty fanedit removing all the snake scenes. I did this with the Indiana Jones movies, and it worked out quite well (dramatic pacing was damaged at times, but it beats the alternative, which is not watching the movie at all).

One problem: as I mentioned, I've only seen the first five films (and only one or two viewings per film), and am thus not very familiar with the intricacies of each one. So if those of you who are more acquainted with these movies could help me complete the list of scenes with snakes (or snake-like creatures, apparitions, etc.), I would be most grateful.

The few scenes I do recall are:

Sorcerer's Stone

-Snake at the zoo who speak to Harry

Chamber of Secrets

-Snake that appears during the wand-duel

-Basilisk at the end (not sure how I'm gonna pull this one off)

Goblet of fire

-Snake is shown after Harry teleports toward end of film

Thanks!
