Actors/Characters Who Destroyed OR Helped a Franchise

I've only seen the first season of Heroes, and kind of liked it. I started season two and decided I'd continue to appreciate season one a lot more if I were to just stop right there and try to forget a second season was every made. And that is what I did.

Good idea, that. I absolutely loved season one, then proceeded to wade through seasons two and three with gritted teeth before finally quitting in disgust. Pretty sad for a show to jump the shark at the beginning of its second season...

Samuel L. Jackson's character in Die Hard with a Vengeance. Seriously wrecked what was already a relatively unimaginative sequel. His constant racism is so irritating, it's probably the single most influential factor that causes me to skip #3 and go straight to #4 anytime I watch the series.

With the Star Wars prequels, there are almost too many characters to count! Jar-Jar, lil' Ani, older Ani, Padme, Jango, Boba, Sidious, Grevious, Yoda...really the only enjoyable characters IMO were Qui-Gon (whose impressiveness seriously dissipates when you start analyzing his actions), Obi-Wan (who didn't totally suck and had some memorable scenes, but oftentimes comes off as bland) and Palpy in ep. 1-2 (but his absurd self-parodying performance in ep. 3 basically cancels out his earlier respectable portrayals entirely). Of course, the problems with these films transcend bad characterization...poor writing and direction is probably more of a train-wrecker than the bad characters.

Aaaaand, to depart briefly from the negativity, I'll cite Captain Sheridan in Babylon 5 as a character who really helped the franchise. While there was nothing really terribly bad per se about Commander Sinclair, he just wasn't as inspiring a character as Sheridan. To be honest, I've always felt like season 1 is really just an extended introduction to the real series, which begins with season 2.

Making our own 35mm preservation--my crazy proposal

Definitely not taking sides here, but I do sorta get where vbangle is coming from (in post 703, not 706). A lot of people got really excited the last time around, and felt pretty let down when -1 decided to leave and keep his toys to himself. "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me."

That being said, I suppose it's possible that -1 has had a change of heart and intends to be cool about things this time around. Time will tell.

I wasn't going to post in this thread, but I felt like although vbangle is being characteristically rude, he does have a point.

Star Wars Blu Ray Impressions
Time

Gee, I thought it was pretty amusing. I took the alterations to be intentionally bad in order to highlight the absurdity of Lucas' SE alterations (Greedo shooting first, the new krayt dragon roar, and "Nooooooo!" spring to mind). It's a form of hyperbole. As for the Yoda fart jokes, I don't think they were intended to be funny-simply-because-they're-fart-jokes. I took it to be a criticism of the new Lucas' sense of humor (Jar-Jar stepping in poo, getting farted at, etc.) as over against that of the old Lucas.

Fanfiltration: Agreed on all points. I've always felt that Roger Moore's Bond was a bit like Paul McGann's Doctor Who: those two were born to play the role, but were given pretty awful scripts to work with all around. Crying shame, really.

I tend to rate Moore's worst three Bond films thus: 1.) Moonraker [a.k.a. James Bond the Comedy]; 2.) A View to a Kill; 3.) Octopussy. Aside from the inclusion of Jaws, his best was probably The Spy who Loved Me. The Man with the Golden Gun, too, will always have a special place in my heart, despite some of the film's over-the-top absurdities. Christopher Lee just makes everything better (with Attack of the Clones being the one exception).

Zam could also spy on the apartment denizens of Rear Window? Then sees Jimmy Stewart spying right back at her? ;)

+2. This is a hilarious idea.

EDIT: Like Ender, I was referring solely to the "Rear Window" comment...
