Info & Help Wanted: 'Star Wars: Clone Wars' TV versions (2003 animated series)

Yes, I would prefer using the DVD footage for the majority of the show, along with footage from a digital recording device (TiVo, DVD recorder, etc.) for the opening/end credits. This would ensure the highest quality end result.

As for Cartoon Network showing the series again, I do know that the Cartoon Network will be showing Chapters 21-25 on November 26 (strange, becuase the DVD will be coming out December 6). Maybe someoine can record them on a digital device that day.

Info & Help Wanted: 'Star Wars: Clone Wars' TV versions (2003 animated series)
Time

With the March 2005 release of Star Wars: Clone Wars Volume I, I had hoped to see the original 20 chapters presented in the way they were originally shown on the Cartoon Network, as that format gave them more of a serial feel that Lucas was originally going for when he had the idea for the series. Editing them together, in my opinion, was a bad move. The chapters, to me, don’t function as well as an edited animated film as they did as individual animated chapters. Now, I’m not going to go blame Lucas for this editing job, since I’m sure he had little to do with the actual production of the DVD. It was likely Genndy who had the idea to edit them together. And sadly, the Volume II DVD, although I’ll admit it flows better, is edited together as well. I was hoping that at least they would give an option to either watch them as originally presented, for those of us that want them that way, or edited together for those who want it that way. Unfortunately, only the latter got their wish.

So, is anyone interested in restoring the 25 chapters to the way they were originally presented on TV, with the Clone Wars logo, chapter title card, etc? The original openings/endings to each chapter could be edited back in, via TV recordings. Preferably someone’s digital recordings from their HDTV, TIVO, DVD recorder, etc. You could use this footage, combined with the official DVD’s, to produce the best quality preservations of the chapters.

Another gripe I have with the current official DVD’s is the lack of quality bonus features. There were some good opportunities to give all of the TV spots CN had shown for CW, or some featurettes exploring the Clone Wars in more depth, such as more closely explaining the connection of the EU books and this animated series to the films. But, of course, instead we get %75 promotional material. If only they could give the types of bonus features they did with the films, with the Clone Wars DVD’s as well.

Yeah, I mean, for the ones who want it, I believe he should release the OOT. He certainly would make quite the profit, considering how many people I've seen on boards across the net who are furious at him for not releasing it. The most logical move would be to release his final, definitive versions of all six of his films on Blu-ray DVD in 2007. Then, at the same time, give a release with the original theatrical versions of all six films on Blu-ray DVD, for the ones who want them, and for film history's sake. Now, the average person wouldn't care which version they were getting, or notice, so I suppose he would have to make a clear distinction between his final versions and the originals.

I've seen him put down and criticized so many times for making changes TO HIS OWN MOVIES. If he were doing those changes to someone elses, then I would feel the same way many do in having a low opinion of him. He himself even said that he supports an artists right to their properties, but doesn't feel one artist should change another's work. In my opinion, he is still that high school kid, excited to try out new things, as he has in the prequels. I hate it when people put down his use of CG, becuase he is the one who basically invented most special effects in the first place. He used them in the OT, but no one complained. No one said "Those special effects have gone to his head and he can't tell a story." For the PT, technology had merely improved, and he took advantage of this. The advance in technology allowed him to fully reallize the visions he had in his head of what he wanted to see for all of these years since 1973 when he wrote the overall story. He, as you know, had to make MANY compromises with the OT, and things didn't go how he would have liked. You've heard the quote where he says he was disappointed the first ten years after the OT was released, right? Well, everyone should be happy for him, that he was finally able to create the films he wanted with the prequels, and perfect the films he ,ade with the OT SE. Try not to let your personal preferences get in the way when thinking of Lucas. He may be this obsessive, perfectionist, greedy, crazy person you say, but.. then again, he might just be an artist perfecting his work, without listening to the comments of others. The studios told him in the 90's that the original fans would not like the PT, but, he told the story he wanted regardless. How many people do you know who would risk a reputation like that in order to tell a story? Not many. Most artists like Lucas are controlled by the studios, WHO ARE THE REAL MONEY HUNGRY PEOPLE. The studios have the sole goal of profits. Now, of course, that is one of his goals as well. But the studios look at the films as products, rather than stories. So they create them and cut them to appeal to people. Lucas, through his independent nature, was able to avoid that all of these years, and tell the stories exactly the way he wanted to. And I cannot hate him for that.

Info for... the Ewok films: 'Battle For Endor' and 'Caravan Of Courage'...

The beginning of COC is HEAVY in grain. And at some points, the image gets very dark. Then, BFE almost looks black and white at the parts where Cindel hears the witch calling her name. And, overall, there is much grain in the movies. But, some places, especially those in pure daylight, look as if they were remastered or something.

Rikter has one of the original TV spots for Caravan of Courage from Rarities 1. I've asked him if he could upload it, but he hasn't yet. But, here is the link I've found to the trailer for COC:

By the way, you might want to check out this site that made a fake press release of what they would like to see in a future release:

I have them on DVD, just discovered them earlier this year. They show a part of Star Wars I had never imagined up until I first saw them. There's a certain quality to them that allows them to stand on their own as classics. Somehow, the use of stop-motion and the low-budget TV effects of the 80's gives them this certain, undescribable quality. Honestly, I don't see the point in making such small changes. Perhaps there were simply differences in the various versions originally released in 84' and 85'. Ell the Ewok, what versions did you get from eBay, the VHS/Laserdisc release, the DVD, or the TV bootlegs?

I would give my complete opinion, but it seems that the policy here is, to play on a famous phrase: "You can have any opinion you want, as long as it is the same as mine."

So, will I be allowed to give my full opinion on Lucas, the prequels, the SE, and the O-OT, without anyone getting upset or angry? I would like to just to get it off of my chest, by my opinion seems extremely unfavorable.

In an attempt to revive this thread and this project, I will post the known changes which have been made to these two films over the years, courtesy of TheForce.Net (http://www.theforce.net/latestnews/story/caravan_of_courage_dvd_changes_88058.asp) and the IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089110/alternateversions). If anyone attempts to restore these two, you must keep in mind a couple of things. First off, there have been three different releases on home video, which were the 1990 VHS release, the 1990 Laserdisc release, and the 2004 DVD release. Also, Caravan of Courage was released both theatrically, and on TV. And it might be helpful if anyone has any home-recordings from the original TV airings, or happen to have any prints of the films. You would have to decide which version you intend to restore (Also I must note that the theatrical version of COC was NOT in widescreen, it was merly reformatted from its original 1.33:1 aspect ratio to a 1.78:1 aspect ratio). The changes were very minor to these films, but there indeed were several changes:

Caravan of Courage:

-The original TV version had the title of "The Ewok Adventure," rather than "Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure." The "Caravan" titles were only present for the theatrical release in the UK and Australia.

-The original TV version credited Bob Carrou as writing the "teleplay," rather than writing the "screenplay."

-The TV, VHS, and Laserdisc versions did not open with the 20th Century Fox fanfare, but the DVD does, since it was taken from the theatrical version. The laserdisc and VHS had merely cut straight to the movie from the opening logos.

-The VHS and Laserdisc versions gave the company logo at the beginning as MGM, the DVD version has replaced it with the Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox company logos.

The Battle for Endor:

-In a home video release, the following two scenes were deleted: when being chased by Terak's men, Wicket races for Noa's house but Noa tells him the only chance they've got is the star cruiser. Then a scene that happened shortly after where the men went inside and burned down Noa's house.

-When Cindel has a nightmare about bad guys coming into Noa's house after her has the following scene cut in a version on television in which Cindel rushes to Noa's bed to wake him up, but instead finds Terak in the bed then she wakes up, so on TV it just shows her waking up after the men breaking in.

-Cindel's lines: "Do something, Wicket! Use your sling! You hit the ring!" have been altered to "Do something, Wicket! Do something!" for the DVD release.

HERE ARE THE DVD COVERS FROM GRISAN:
