Just a small criticism of Phasma 2. The audio crossfade is a little heavy from when they’re running to the shuttle to when they blast out of the shuttle bay and the music gets “mushy”. I did a quick cross-fade right on the cut and the score flows more smoothly I think:

Yes! This musical transition works better. Also, I appreciate your inclusion of the deleted scene.

Here’s a revised option B with a final “Hello?” at the end. I’m not sure it works better, though. Looking forward to your thoughts about which option B is the best option B.

I’m repeating what’s already been said multiple times at this point, but if you want to keep part of the joke then this is the one to use!

I’m into the idea of having two versions. Personally, I’m a sucker for “extended editions” regardless of how the pace is impacted as long as I actually like the extended bits (which in this case, I mostly do).

Also, the scene of Poe that Ridley posted is definitely my favorite so far. The SNL bits almost have to be there for it to feel worthwhile. Otherwise, I think simply keeping the cockiness of Poe is the way to go.

If you’re looking for all of the deleted scenes in one place and in HD, there’s a link to a Dailymotion video at reddit.com/r/starwarsleaks. There are definitely a few that I could imagine being integrated! For what it’s worth, here’s my opinion:

Necessary Inclusions:

  • LUKE HAS A MOMENT (the closest we’re gonna get to a “mourning Han” sequence and I definitely had my own “moment” after watching it. Beautiful transition to Leia as well)
  • THE CARETAKER SIZES UP REY (only because it helps flesh out the “third lesson” even more)
  • CARETAKER VILLAGE SEQUENCE (despite the unfinished effects of Rey running to the rescue)
  • POE: NOT MUCH OF A SEWER (good Finn/Poe moment and makes the hard cut to Poe being demoted quite funny)
  • IT’S KINDA WEIRD THAT YOU RECORDED THAT (again, more Finn, which this movie needs in my opinion, and pretty funny)

Worth Considering:

  • MEGA DESTROYER INCURSION - EXTENDED VERSION (has it’s moments, but probably not worth it in the end)
  • ROSE AND FINN GO TO WHERE THEY BELONG (good character development for Finn)
  • THE COSTUMES AND CREATURES OF CANTO BIGHT (there are some great shots and costumes. Maybe they could stand in for “worse” shots during the theatrical sequence?)

The rest I’d leave out completely because of unfinished effects or because they’re absolutely cringe-worthy.

TFA: A Gentle Restructure (Released)

Damn, guys. This is a shame. The voice I used in the second clip is further back in the throat and fuller sounding, however my recording device isn’t able to pick up the bass as well and makes it sound tinny. That was very apparent in your clip, Hal. I’m still an advocate for that voice as it is closer sounding to the original, but the voice I used in the first clip is more nasally and forward in the mouth and is clearly picked up better with my limited equipment.

Hal, perhaps another one of the “original” clips could work? I can try to send a couple more recordings tomorrow, but I won’t be able to use professional equipment for another week and a half and it would be awesome to get this out as soon as possible. In other words, I may be reaching my limits as far as what I can offer.

Creating more distance from the mic, making sure the recording syncs up even better with the video, and placing more emphasis on the “re” of recharged are all things I’ll do in the next recording!

To be honest, the original doesn’t sound very urgent and I tried to copy that, but there’s always room for improvement. I’ll just have to work within the limitations of syncing up with the video. Thanks for the feedback everyone!

And if people think the audio quality is good as it is, I’ll continue working with the equipment I have.

The voice in the recording is yours truly! To my ear, the accent is quite similar to the original recording, but something I would like to do differently is record from a greater distance from the mic so that I can speak more aggressively and loudly and maybe get that “poshness” that you mentioned. It might also sound more natural when integrated with the rest of the clip.

Also, is the less than stellar quality of the recording coming through or does it sound okay? I’ve only been able to listen to it on my phone since I’m at work.

Here’s the best I can come up with based on what we have so far:

I’ve sat quietly on the sidelines for the duration of this project, but I wanted to mention one quick thing that stood out to me in this clip.

I understand that we’re probably dealing with a significant lack of usable footage, but I think that the first of the two shots of Leia during the firing of SKB really takes away from the powerful second shot when she recoils from the pain of losing both Han and Hosnian Prime. I’d personally like the first shot I see of Leia after these two major events be the one where she is recoiling, that way it is clear that she is reacting to both Han and SKB and not just SKB. Hope that makes sense!

Star Wars Episode I: Cloak Of Deception (Released)

Hal, I’ve watched all three of your edits and I’m a huge fan. I have especially been enjoying your TFA thread and am looking forward to seeing what comes of it.

Quick question: I downloaded your PT off of fanedit.info last summer. Would those have been v4 of each film, or were they still v3 back then? If there is a newer version that is currently available, I’d love to get a hold of them if someone wouldn’t mind PMing them to me (fanedit.info still seems to be “coming soon”).

Thanks in advance!
