Two new vehicles were just revealed:

I don’t really see a problem with these. It’s not like the AT-AT made much sense to begin with. In a world with spaceships, why would you use what’s essentially a giant camel-robot. But, it looked cool and intimidating, and in a space opera that’s really all that matters. I think the “gorilla AT-AT” could work pretty well.

As for originality, why is no-one talking about that spider-walker that we saw about a month ago. That’s actually something new.

It’s a giant Sarien Spider Droid!

I think the new AT-AT is OK. The new Star Destroyer I’m less keen on. It looks like a blend of Palpatine’s ship in Dark Empire and Jerec’s Vengeance Star Destroyer in the '97 Jedi Knight.

Should Vader and The Emperor even know who Yoda is?
Time

The Merchant said:
Yoda, along with other Jedi Masters, should be secluded from the Galaxy, with a Jedi Knight needing to further their training by seeking one out.

I like this idea. Reminds me of the Arisians in Lensman.

I always assumed Yoda would be much closer to nature, than the politicized way he was represented in the PT. I also always found it inconceivable that Palpatine could be this powerful Force user, but somehow the Jedi who could sense each other from the other side of the galaxy in the OT, suddenly were blind to the Sith operating under their very noses. To me the only option that made sense, was for Palpatine to have been a Jedi, perhaps even their leader (a parallel to Saruman in LOTR), secretly exploring the dark side of the Force, while slowly maneuvering the Jedi and more importantly himself to the center of power. Yoda would then be the oldest and wisest of the Jedi, who would obviously oppose such a move, causing a rift in the Jedi order with Palpatine and Yoda being leaders of opposite sides. This would also explain why Anakin would allign himself with Palpatine, who in this scenario is actually seemingly one of the good guys, rather than the devil incarnate. It also makes the idea, that the Jedi who oppose Palpatine can be painted as traitors and terrorists more believable. I also always believed Anakin was rejected by Yoda, because of his fiery temper, such that Obi-Wan felt compelled to train him in secret. Anakin would eventually become a hero in the clone wars, which in the above scenario would lead to Palpatine going over Yoda’s head, by formally inducting him in the order of Jedi Knights as a reward for his service, making Anakin his deputy. Then when the main body of Jedi led by Yoda finally rise up against Palpatine, who’s side is Anakin going to be on?

This is also a very good idea. Though I doubt it was ever considered by Lucas for the PT, since the idea of Emperor Palpatine as an evil politician predates the concept of him being a Sith sorcerer.

But what you really want is a throwaway line where it doesn’t matter. Which means the whole “who are Rey’s parents?” plot might end up being “Luke and a random lady” for 95% of the audience.

What I really want is “not Luke,” but if Luke is the father, who else would be the mother other than a random lady? Unless there’s a woman on the island we don’t know about who’s been living with Luke all these years.

Leia, of course.

Han - Solo Movie ** Spoilers **
Time

Heh.

I actually meant that bit of official “canon” was a fig-leaf for how Lucas & Kasdan obviously saw Jabba as a very sexual, and very male, being. (Kasdan’s script used the phrase “fate worse than death” to describe what Jabba did to Leia.)

Inconsistency being the hobgoblin of little minds, people who need canon to understand SW would normally never put two and two together in that regard.

Also, even if it did fall out the bottom of Cloud City like Luke did, there’s no reason to think it couldn’t have landed on some kind of mining platform lower down in the atmosphere.

IIRC, the old Marvel comics had Bespin with a marshy swampy surface. The Ugnaughts lived down there and had airships that used Tibanna gas.

Interesting, because this is also what Bespin was like in the Leigh Brackett script. There were some aliens living on the surface whom Luke befriended and who were friendly to Lando.

Forgot to post this when it actually happened, but I went to a comic con last weekend in Worcester, MA and scored a bunch of Star Wars schwag. The 501st had a charity raffle where I ended up winning a gift basket full of figures and legos and stuff. Also got a Millennium Falcon model kit, the 40th anniversary black series Luke action figure with the 77 packaging, and the coup de grace, a Sebastian Shaw Anakin Skywalker action figure from the 90s.

Astonishing haul! Congratulations, good sir.

No longer is HAL 9000 a boring old computer eye on the wall. Thanks to the magic of CGI, his robot avatar now strolls about the corridors of Discovery One alongside Bowman and Poole.

In such a scenario Clarke could legitimately claim that having HAL be a robot was his “original idea” all along: drafts for such a scenario are in The Lost Worlds of 2001.

Not that it’d make the execution of a CGI-laden Special Edition any less awkward.

A TV version of Raiders of the Lost Ark already did this by adding CGI to the effects shot of the cliff face in the truck chase.

That shot was altered specifically because, as stated in a 1990s LFL book on the Lucasfilm Archives, George Lucas personally approved the original matte shot after a test screening, despite concerns from ILM employees who still wanted to tweak the composites.

Just one more instance of Lucas deliberately being a hypocrite with respect to his past self so as to discredit the idea of Special Editionism in the public mind.
