If George had only changed Special effects for the SE and DVD, would people have complained as much?
Time
I think it said a lot about Spielberg's character when, at the last possible minute, he released the 1982 version of E.T. along with the 2002 edition. Granted, the E.T. SE was much more maligned than the SW SE (and for good reasons). But the plan all along was to release the 2002 edition affordably, and release the 1982 edition in a much more expensive set. As the packaging was being prepped, the negative press gave Spielberg and Universal the balls to say "Okay, everybody gets both versions."

Meanwhile, Lucas still gives us the middle finger by this obnoxious party line of "The O-OT doesn't exist." Bollocks! Star Wars was a trendsetter and should have been so for DVD as well, giving us all a choice of which changes to watch on a single disc. Any, all or none. Instead we got flipped off by one of the worst transfers in memory AND a press that sucked up to Lucas rather than calling him on the carpet for all the technical misdeeds of the official DVD.

Episode 3: Fan Editing Ideas Discussion
Time
I've realized there is an important reason NOT to include the Shaak Ti scene in Ep III restorations: She's seen later on in the movie as still being alive. According to the SW Databank:

"When this sequence was cut from the edit of Episode III, Shaak Ti's life was spared. She can still be seen in Episode III, as a tiny tabletop hologram on Kashyyyk, when Yoda is remote-conferencing with the Jedi Temple.

"Although her earlier death at Grievous' hands was completed and included on the DVD as a deleted scene, it should not be considered the canon version of her fate. This is because she is still visible later on in the movie as part of the Kashyyyk hologram. The deleted scene on the DVD, "General Grievous Slaughters a Jedi," should instead be considered an interesting look at what might have been."

AAACCCCKKKKKK!!!! WTF? They re-ran LAST YEAR'S Treehouse of Horror the night before Halloween and are debuting this years in November? What is up with these programming dickwads at Fox? I thought they'd finally gotten the message, and with Baseball ending early (with the lowest series numbers in TV history to boot) I was under the impression we were getting Treats, not Tricks this Halloween.

I'm taking a private contract out on Fox with Manglers.

Warbler, you gotta try the ending of 2001 set to Pink Floyd's Echoes. Mind blowing.

And for the record, I actually *don't* do drugs, though I'm sure if you do, it'll take it to a whole new level.

2001 is more than a film. It's a moving ("moving" as in "kinetic," not "tugging at the heart-strings") piece of brilliant, hi-concept art. The sequel is a great sci-fi flick and gripping story, but nothing more. The original is just something greater. Swan Lake on celluloid.

I'm still confused as to what this "Bruce Willis" moment is though.

Towards the end of the attack, there is a scene where Jennifer Garner's character kinda "loses it" just after Betty is discovered to be dead. While she's freaking out, a wounded soldier limps across the frame just behind her. That soldier is Bruce Willis, digitally extracted from the end of Die Hard. It screams to be noticed and ruins one of the more powerful moments of the film. Some places aren't right for in-jokes, and that was certainly one.

Star Trek is Gay
Time
I knew the inflammatory title would grab your attention.

So maybe not ALL of Trek is gay, but apparently Sulu is.

That rustling sound you hear isn't autumn leaves in the wind, it's Trekkies around the world shuddering.

And to clear the air, while not a bona-fide Trekkie, I absolutely love Kirk's and Picard's Trek. So don't read any real Trek bashing into my post. Just some ... ummm ... fluffy news for your Friday.

I'm actually in favor of this. I could never stand waiting until November for a Halloween special. Just didn't seem right. Fox needs to lose the Series.

Sarcasm was intended in my remark. I've been bemoaning the November Halloween episode since it started.

The friggin team owners need to shorten the season. Series should be over by Sept. 30.

Need John Williams and SW Artwork for ...
Time
I'm hoping to get Boba Feta to design a cover for the "Star Wars: A Musical Journey" re-edit that I did. Since this DVD came with no unique artwork of its own, I'm hoping you all can help. I'm looking for hi-res scans of John Williams, preferably while composing/conducting SW music. Shots with Lucas would be awesome. OT and PT. Plus, has anybody tackled a composite poster of both the OT and the PT characters into one? That would be amazing. But John Williams and Lucas would be my primary focus.

For those who don't know what this release is, it's my second "Bonus Disk" which replaces the soundtrack with voiceover-free music in a PCM Audio track.

Idea: a Batman Forever re-edit?
Time
I can respect that. I haven't gotten the new set yet, but I didn't know the deleted scenes were going to be in the supplement. So they're all on the new DVD? I see another project in my future. The only scene I want to remove is that awful shootout in the street/car driving up the wall mess. What tripe! The rest of the film I can stomach, but that one was just too much. Oh, what Burton could've done with that film if given the chance.

Idea: for an edit of Batman Begins
Time
I suggested "Batman Ascends" to BOF. Hopefully Jett will include that in his next title poll.

Anyhoo, I couldn't say enough good stuff about this movie back when it came out. It my favorite movie of the year (yes, moreso than ROTS, which shouldn't take a genius to know why) and I think a worthy contender for Best Picture that'll never get the nod.

As for Zimmer's score, both times that I've seen it, the music has been stuck in my head for days afterward. Interestingly, I'm starting to really get into Hans Zimmer's head, having dissected Hannibal and Pearl Harbor, and just grooving on Batman Begins (not to mention my passionate love for the Gladiator score). I was never so sure about what his style was, I just always liked it. Wanna hear something weird? Years ago, my wife and I waltzed at our wedding to the theme from True Romance (also by Zimmer). A handful of my movie buddies were audibly floored by that choice. Everybody else just thought we'd chosen a nice calypso piece. Ha!
