Hayden Christensen wins Razzie for ROTS
Time
Harrison Ford had the sack to say "You can type this shit but you can't say it" to Lucas. Ford time and again fixed bad Lucas writing in ANH and ESB.

Any good actor who showed up to collaborate would have brought more to the character than what Lucas created. Liam Neeson and Ian McDiramid were the only ones who completely showed up for their jobs. Ewan improved over time, but still never improvised. That was apparent. Hayden and Natalie both phoned in their performances. Period.

ADigitalMan's Guide to MPEG2/AC3 Editing
Time
Once you're familiar with Vegas's audio capabilities, it shouldn't add more than a couple days work soup to nuts. The secret is to have it work for you while you do other things. The editing part is time-consuming, but ripping with Hypercube and rendering work in full time ... maybe x2 depending on your processor. When you do those steps, do it overnight or while you're watching a movie or playing with your kids or whatever. Don't discount it as an option though. It's surprisingly easy to learn and lets you do some amazing crossfades.

THE FAN EDIT CONTEST HAS A WINNER !!! REVIEWS IN OFF TOPIC FORUM

Ummm ... wow and thanks. Rather unexpected, especially for this edit. I'm usually a man of many words (as my posts indicate) but I'm scrounging at the moment. Fortunately typing isn't like public speaking and I can take a moment to gather my thoughts. You'll read these straight through and it'll read like a speech, but know that I'm really working to put my thoughts together.

I can sum up my feelings in one statement: Never has one owed so much to so many.

But in typical ADM fashion I guess I'll blather on anyway.

I'm in the company of some great folks here, but I guess the biggest props need to go to Ridley Scott. It's all his work, just rearranged. I've often wondered if my edit is closer to what he would have done were he not at the mercy of Dino DeLaurentis to deliver a 2 hour picture. I hope reworking the ending alone made this a worthy follow-up to Silence of the Lambs.

Thanks to DAYV for envisioning the contest and to all the judges for slogging though the mass of entries. It's an unenviable task you all took on.

Props to Boba Feta of course for doing some outstanding artwork on this film (as well as all my SW edits). Not to mention The Cassidy who's been doing a bang-up job on many of the titles that weren't submitted into this contest. And of course to my very dear long-time friend Darth Enzo for his work on Pearl Harbor. So you all know, Darth Enzo is responsible for waking up my sensibilities to good cinema. He planted the seeds that took me from being an ordinary movie goer to one who could appreciate the role of the director, writers, and everybody behind the camera other than FX wizards. He's also the most talented undiscovered entertainment writer I've ever read and I hope he'll contribute a regular column on the new and improved board when it arrives.

ALL of you fellow editors have done good work. Some of it I've seen, some I'm still trying to get to, but the raves do speak for themselves. I'm glad that we have such a close-knit family here that supports each other. Creativity on this board is busting at the seams.

I sincerely hope this not only inspires more fans to take up editing as a hobby, but also helps get Hollywood's ear in a positive way. I implore every one of you reading this ... buy the official release. Compare the fan edits to the original film. Don't let this become a way to steal from Hollywood or to stick it to them. Think of it as film school without all the boring lectures or subjective grading.

And lastly, because the PiF system has gotten these edits into the hands of the judges rather my hands, I intend to donate my prize in some manner TBD. I'll talk with DAYV about options. I have adamantly stood against this hobby as a profit-generating enterprise even in the slightest. I think of this as the right thing to do, else I inadvertently profit from the work.

Thanks again to everybody. This truly means something special.

Some players do this. My Apex is notorious for it, so your Cyberhome probably is in the same boat. I didn't notice it so much on this as on Ep II, but your description sounds all-too-familiar. I think it has to do with the cut GOP structure that did the frame-accurate editing w/o recoding and how certain chipsets interpret that unexpected info on the fly. Not all players do this, and those that do, do it to varying degrees.

Computers, of course, render it perfectly. In the words of Tony Soprano, "whaddayagonnado?"

Scientific Innacuracies in Sci-Fi

And what about beings from a planet with a red sun getting superpowers from a yellow sun? Wouldn't he lose those powers at night? And when he flies underground to the earth's mantle deep out of reach of the sun's rays? What's up with that?

And that ending to Timecop? Clearly the matter wasn't attempting to exist in the same space by a handshake. The elemental bonds of the atoms kept the matter from coexisting in the same space. What's up with that?

And jigawatts? What are those anyway? What's up with that?

(I could go on and on time permitting. )

I guess what I'm wondering is if the XØ capture was done in 1080 so that when Blu-Ray comes along you won't have to go through it all over again. And given that the resolution of LD isn't close to 1080, does capturing at that resolution even make sense? Or will upconversion be adequate.

Maybe Lucas is just waiting to give us the O-OT on Blu-Ray and the crappy 2004 set was just to shut up the masses for a while.
