Star Wars, Hollywood Style!?
Time
Leif Garrett as Luke Starkiller
Burt Reynolds as Han Solo
Jodie Foster as Princess Leia
Donald Pleasance as Obi-Wan
Marlon Brando as Tarkin (All his scenes would have had to be filmed in five days and he'd have received $5 million for the role.)
Orson Welles as Darth Vader (no suit, and he'd refuse to be shot with Brando, so all the scenes with Tarkin and Vader would have to be assembled cleverly in the editing room)
Roddy McDowell as Cornelius Chewbacca
Wilt Chamberlain as C-3PO and Billy Barty as R2-D2 (both would be recognizable behind their semi-robotic makeup)
ABBA as the Cantina Band

Filmed on the 20th Century Fox backlot with On Location shooting in the Joshua Tree National Forest for the Tatooine desert

Sets would look like "Space: 1999" and the FX would look very Planet of the Apes

Lightsabers would have been cut in favor of a deadly card game between Welles and Pleasance. But the fist fight in the cantina with Reynolds, Garrett and a cast of wacky aliens would be legendary.

Marvin Hamlisch would score the movie with cheesy Bee-Gees-style music (meaning he wouldn't have done The Spy Who Loved Me. John Barry would have done that score and it would have been good).

The most enduring thing would be the hot sex scene between Luke and Leia.

What he said. Aside from her first shot in the series, she's been pretty much worthless. They have GOT to start doing something purposeful with her character or kill her off. Everybody else is astounding, good guys and bad.

What the fuck??? : George is definitely gone "bye bye"
Time
Fortunately George was able to make Empire so much better by replacing Boba Fett's voice, adding a scene in the middle of the film where Vader is surprised to learn that the Skywalker he's sent the entire Imperial Fleet after is the son of Anakin Skywalker, and adding a tension-breaking scene where his shuttle lands on the Executor, whose docking bay looks exactly like the one on Death Star II AND is met by Moff Jerjerod. I mean, this movie would have sucked if he hadn't done this.

Meanwhile, I find it hysterical that George kept telling his marketing people to say that Episode II and Episode III were going to be like Empire. I guess in his mind he wanted us to know they were going to suck?

The end IS near!). Nuclear weapons are damn dangerous, but they're not frickin' asteroids.

He's saying that if NK nukes Japan, then we nuke NK, China nukes us, we and the west nuke China, Russia nukes all of us, we nuke Russia, India and Pakistan nuke each other for the hell of it (peer pressure), Israel nukes whatever they can hit in the middle east, everybody nukes Israel.

South Africa, Australia, and South America then rule the world until the atmosphere collapses.

There are parts where it seems to stutter, but it is actually the background plate, which is how the original Oxford Scientific footage was. I know the part you're talking about. A very blue part that appears behind Mark Pillow's name and later behind the name of the writers.

Or were you talking about a different part? I watched it again and isn't a problem in the actual titles.

If there's any flaw, it's in the source. I thought the sync was okay myself. It could be an issue of the player stuttering around an edit point but I'm watching my copy right now for me it checks out perfectly.

There is some definite out of sync AV about Lois' return from vacation as I edited the audio there. Mostly it's masked by the filing cabinets they're walking behind. Aside from a couple spots like that, the AV is 100% in sync with the source.

ADigitalMan's Guide to MPEG2/AC3 Editing
Time
Is the original source in 5.1? If not, you're better off leaving it in 2.0 and letting your decoder do the pro-logic treatment to it. If you're mixing 5.1 and 2.0 sources, then the doom9 guide works great for upmixing your 2.0 stuff to 5.0 (sadly the .1 remains empty). Read the Vegas part of my guide for re-mixing your final result in 5.1 if you have a 5.1 source to work with. Good luck!

Indiana Jones IV
Time
What if it was set in modern day? Since Indy and Henry Sr. drank from the cup of life, they could pull a Green Mile and have them aging very slowly. Not that I think this would happen, but it would be a very interesting plot twist. Perhaps more interesting than Soviets-under-Kruschev as the bad guys.

Maybe in a star-powered crossover, Indiana Jones and Robert Langdon can debate about whether or not the Holy Grail really was a cup.

Mandatory Tipping Poll
Time
Immediately I thought of Mr. Pink when I read this thread. Jeeze, it's one thing to bitch about how much one pays in taxes, but to avoid tipping 15% on good service? That's cheap, man. Totally Steve Buscemi.

Really BAD service gets little to nothing. I will often leave a penny on really bad service just to drive home the point that I thought about it and established worth accordingly. If the service was adequate, 15%. If it was awesome, 20%. Usually it falls somewhere in-between as I like to round the bottom line to whole dollars when practical.

For those who don't know the etiquette, you should tip on the pre-tax value of the meal, not the bottom line. Also, check the bill to see if the gratuity was automatically added in. That's often the case with large parties. My family all went out for Thanksgiving this year and the gratuity was added in. We almost missed that. Adding another 20% onto 20% would've been, what, a 45% tip in the end?

You can load those into VirtualDubMod and generate an AVI from that. Usually you pick the first one in the sequence and the program knows how to put them together from there ... assuming they're named correctly.
