¤ THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK ¤ The "OPTIMUM EDITION" Score Reconstruction, Remixing & Restoration Version 3 (Released)
Time

Yes, very instructive. And considering the way John Williams had to work on the score, I'm not surprised the two tracks don't match exactly. He couldn't score a 8min track in one stroke.

The two big editing changes I made on the OE are about the "Carbon Freeze" and Vader's Trap" suite, and "Jedi Master Revealed/Mynock Cave". A chance that the only sessions shown in the BBC documentary are about these ones !

I won't change my mind about the "Jedi Master Revealed" link with "Mynock Cave" as I edited them. However we can see that from the fanfare I removed to the end of "Mynock Cave" it is one entire cue. Then it is now obvious I'll have to place the entire cue in the bonus tracks. That's ok, you'll be able to appreciate both the new edit with the RSO track wich sounds powerful and the whole SE track wich sounds not bad at all.

msycamore said (about "Carbon Freeze" and the SE missing bit) :

Its placement on the SE is correct, you can even see when he conducted this part to the scene on the BBC documentary "STAR WARS - Music by John Williams". (a very good one, recommend it if you have not seen it)

... And said:

ABC, when I told you that the "Carbon Freeze" cue's placement on the SE CD is correct, it's both right and wrong.

The music was written for the scene, yes. But was dropped, so it's still an Alternate for the music that follows. So on the SE CD you have two parts of music describing the same scene after each other, it's nothing wrong to have it that way, but I would prefer to have one of them on an alternate version.

Just a thought, sorry for not describing it better.

I come back on that as I'm currently watching the BBC documentary. Not only the missing bit is well placed, but it is part of the "Carbon Freeze" track, as I feel when listening how they fit. My real grip with that missing bit is that it doesn't fit with the beginning of "Darth Vader's Trap" (what doesn't matter anymore as they are separated).

This missing bit then is going be given back to "Carbon Freeze" on Version 4.

Info: ¤ RETURN OF THE JEDI ¤ Score Restoration - another OPTIMUM SET ?...
Time

Hi,

I was wondering if it would be worth making again such a restoration project. The ESB OPTIMUM has taken far more time than I thought in the beginning as there are always some new details revealing with time.

My idea for the moment, rather than running into the entire score, remixing all the parts edited together etc, is more to select the best cues both from sonic and scoring point of view for everyone to be able to appreciate at least the heart of the score on a 1CD set of about 76/78min.

I already worked on the Anthology and the SE versions as many of you know and many said it was “cristal clear”. Thank you. From my point of view it lacked of depht on more than 3/4 of the set and the clarity I brought seems to me now a little abusive.

I can’t say if I’ll finish the project, matter of time as you know.

I only launch the idea for now as I learn a lot of things with ESB, and also because I know that with the right selection for the tracks on ROTJ, things may go fast. For instance the RSO ESB CD album has been remixed entirely for the “Optimum Edition” in less than one hour. Managing the whole set with the other sources was much more time consumming.

Btw, if anyone has the RSO CD of RotJ, just leave me a sign please. I don’t know what it sounds like (potentialy speaking) and I haven’t find any reseller who had it since a while.

Are you judging this only by deduction based on the films that come out or are you working off some information (inside or otherwise) that informs you that the studios have such a rule?

I know about it since a long time. Also working myself more or less in the same area, it doesn't surprise me at all. You've got always a bunch of (ridiculous) censoring rules to face working on productions. I'm sure it would be easy to find precise infos on the internet about that.

On the contrary my dear friend! I believe the "r" is quite UNnecessary. FInk!

Ion Man ? Mmmhh... Why not.

Still, here again a new american cinema shit. (Is that racist?... Don't mind. Oh! About that, what about the US law wich obligates Hollywood & Co to have at least one black man/woman to appear in the films... I don't call that racism, I call that Hypocrisis).

Fools !

Is there actually such a law or did you just mean that figuratively?

I couldn't say if it's a "real" law from the outside or if it is imposed by the companies to the filmmakers, what may look the same. So yes, I mean it. I forgot to precise it has to happen in the firsts -or seconds- roles, it's not just about a minor character you would almost not see in the background. Also I'd admit it looks to concern mostly the blockbusters as there are quite a bunch of exceptions.

Funny to notice: Star Wars has no black man, Empire has "the" one.

If Lucas Made an Indiana Jones V or VI would anyone here see them ?

First, thanks for the capitals ;) Far more easy to read.

What you point here is more interesting than what this thread is about. Perhaps a CREDITS thread about Lucas and Spielberg collaborators would match your point of view in an enjoyable (and informative !) way, instead of this silly question "If...?"

And if you meant to turn this into the negative, why not: the Lucas and Spielberg "slaves" thread !

For instance: first credit for giving a visual shape to the OT: Ralph McQuarrie.

I will never pay to see another one of their movies again.

Never say never. I don't say myself I won't go and see their films. I just don't go. The last one was... I don't remember.

And they should never be allowed to direct again, ever.

Fortunately there are no law until now to forbid stupidity. Why fortunately?... Who will judge? Stupid or intellectual persons? All the same. Let them piss in peace.

...koepp...

Could you please use capital for a name. As non English it's always disturbing when reading your posts.

I have read the making of book.

Why do you persist in knowing and documentating about those you point as "traitors"? That's still a hard fan behaviour.

How the hell do you make film worse than temple of doom, or 1941. I would like to ask spielberg. As much as i would like to ask lucas how you go about topping howard the duck and the star wars holiday special and episode 1.

Who asks ? Who are you and what have you done with your life by the way ? Any wrong choice ? Good for you.

... And don't worry, the Lucas / Spielberg empires don't rule the galaxy, neither our destinies.

No religious artifacts, no occult, no archeology because that has nothing to do with aliens but the study of human cultures and history. The old bad idea that aliens built the pyramids was torn to pieces by science a long time ago. Basing a movie on the very bad novel chariots of the gods has to be the stupidest idea next to george getting his ideas from l ron hubbard and scientology.

George for years has been removing any sense of spirituality from his films as well as trying to get rid of the guns. That is why greedo shot first to make a point against the republicans and the nra. Poltical correctness. Also why he added midi chlorians to episode 1 instead of keeping the force quasi religious. That is why he went with aliens instead of another artifact like exacalibur, or the lance of longinus.

As always, long post to read. But nice one... The part I quote looks so true.

Edit: ... And what an idea to go and watch KotCS ! I didn't.
