*** SPECIAL (personal but not private) REQUEST ***

AVP,

May you please - at least - mention the original uploader/maker of the "Audiophile Edition" + the original topic (or OT.com) in the place where you present  my work. The way you've done it gives the feeling that it fell from the sky...

Also I'm glad that Builditup who I thank very much have steped in "your" topic to show his respect and credit for such an effort, what seems so far to be totally out of your capability of understanding for the moment, considering what I read from you here (=nothing). Beside I saw you were congratulated for the "effort" (yeah I've read that), what was kind of amusing in a way.

The current topic here has become interesting justly thanks to real feedbacks, which let everyone know that it is not just "another" edit that is presented here. The "feedbacks" I read in your parallel topic don't give an idea at all of what the resulting experience of this set may be - so we don't know if it is really worth to get, or if it is a serious work.

Keep in mind that I'm not payed, not rewarded or whatever for this, and that to share such pieces around is a personal choice and not an obligation. My best motivation to do this is the effort (?) of communication you can make of your own. Ask to msycamore: when I posted new samples for the AE after the OE, there was no feedbacks for weeks and I almost decided to stop thinking of any upload. Indeed, no word for a thread viewed 5000 times can be very very frustrating... When it finally prooves there was a lot expectations.

I also read that a few people were frustrated because they feared I'd finally share this so privately that they wouldn't never find the AE... Once again: why didn't they log and step in and share their enthusiasm instead of excluding themselves ? I don't force anyone to be my friend and I don't care: but please just speak when you're interested or when you enjoy the free work from someone.

I'm glad many persons have got the idea and shared a few words here: you can thank every single one of them for having this restoration available ! ;)

Do you hear what I say ?

...

Oh, and thanks for the shot... I even haven't had the chance to print these for myself yet.

you've got 5 or 6 topics for your covers around my AE covers thread, you customised the arts from the AE for yourself and you don't want to let us see that ?...  I'm glad to see a part of these arts in situation at last.

Thank you.

If you're talking about making the music more prominent in the mix ... why?

That's what we were talking about, but I think you're right.

Added to this point I just made a more serious try and it appears (on "Attack Position") the pitch of the 1993 transfer from the sessions tapes have an infinitesimal pitch alteration I could spot with precision. This gives an awful kind of delay, and a lot of work to get that back on the many edited bits.

If you're talking about an isolated score, then hell yeah, go for it, that'd be awesome!

That's what we are talking about now. I can't see any problem to do that excepted a 3 or 4sec missing bit in "Ice Planet" - the begining of the famous SE insert - I may replace with harp.

... Choose you're version, guys ! ;)

PS: Do we post a new topic to advert this ?

Perhaps someone can suggest the one to be used for this.

I guess any of the soundtracks/mixes would do, but you could also use the surrounds from the upmix(es) as the speech is much attenuated in them.

Mmmhh... Keep in mind that the music I would overlay would attenuate these again. The tries I made on Adywan's version were great: the music can be very "loud" in comparison of the film mix and you still can hear everything.

So what is it you need? if I am following you correctly you would need the PCM track for the entire film?

I guess so. Is it one 2 hours track ? I thought it was divided by chapters.

The only experience I have with DVD sound is a downmix I've done once of a 6 track channel as you know. I wouldn't need more than one of those pair of tracks that has the music (and sfxs if I understood), and it would make it easier if I have to use the waveform for some help.

if so which PCM would you like, the '80 Theatrical, '85 Stereo remix or the '93 Stereo mix? they are 1.33 GB's in size, just so you know.

The best one (or the one for the best version). Keep in mind that I'm untutored about these things. Try to imagine someone that has a far memory of Star Wars and you almost get it... Almost.

Perhaps someone can suggest the one to be used for this.

PM with details and I would love to do this.

All my technical / historical knowlegde is contained in this post !...

Thanks for the update and let me/us know when it's available.  :)

With these fixes, would it be safe to say that the AE, as it stands now, should be deleted in favor of this new collection?

... I said:

I have in the idea to reedit the whole new set, why not like the SE did with suites. It would avoid confusions between the AE 1st version and the upgraded version.

... What about an "Imperial Edition" ?...

... Perhaps an alternate set is a good option, as I said not to confuse these.

- UPDATE & UPGRADE -

Having some free time I took almost all of the AE back these days and after all the work I did I never thought there was so much possible remaining...

Overall:

EQs: I used this time a 20Khz parametric equalizator to handle the remaining brillance of many of the session mixes (layered or not) in the high freqs. It restored in the same time the dynamic range a little further... or more.

Balance: something I'd call a stereo conflict always bugged me in the layered tracks. Indeed I neglected the different balance settings between the session mixes and the album mixes, as I neglected to see how to fully explore the complementarity of these pairs of stereo. If you thought the layered tracks were incredible...
Another balance matter was about some mistakes I made myself. I restored all this fitting the closer as possible to the film version mixing as I learned to appreciate. The NPR Radio Drama excerpts were of a great help to do that for being very close to the film mixing. And I also found a couple of further corrections I hadn't managed before.

Obviously, everything sounds still better to me now, not to say at maximum quality (for these sources of course).

CD1:

1.  - re EQs (Main Title Only)
2.  - re Bal + re EQs
3.  - re EQs
4.  - re Bal + re EQs
5.  - re EQs
6.  - re EQs
7.  - re Bal
8.  ---
9.  - re EQs
10. ---
11. re EQs
12. re EQs
13. ---
14. Pitch/speed restored
15. Remixing: Jedi Master Revealed is now the film mix (instead of the SE remix) + RSO layer + Pitch correction on the wohole Mynock cave part & completion with the high dynamic range Radio Drama bit (thrilling part 1)
16. - re Bal. replaced with CD3 version. CD3 will have a louder synth layer.
17. - re Bal + re EQs
18. - light speed and pitch correction possible (not decided yet... a light one but a tough one!) Edit: Done & bit accurate
19. - re Bal + re EQs
20. - remixing (session mixes in the midle of the track)

CD2:

1.  - re Bal. Replacement with the CD3 EQ version not decided yet.
2. ---
3. - re EQ (first time since the OE3 !)
4. - re Bal + re EQs
5. - re Bal + re EQs
6. - Entirely redone - re Bal + re EQs + speed / pitch correction, against the Radio Drama + checked against the film.
7. - re EQs --- + Alt version
8. - re EQs     + Alt edit
9. - re Bal - replaced with CD3 version
10. - replaced with CD3 version
11. partial/short re Bal.
12. - re Bal. replaced with CD3 version
13. ---
14. ---
15. ---
16. ---
17. ---
18. Remixed.
19. --- (maybe out)
20. --- (maybe out)
21. --- (maybe out) + new version of the complete "Space Slug" on CD3.
22. Now on CD3. Possible improvement of the Alt March part.

+ Alternate tracks (on an alternate set ?) with further restoration thanks to the higher dynamic range free parts I had from the NPR Radio Drama (thanks man!)...
I have in the idea to reedit the whole new set, why not like the SE did with suites. It would avoid confusions between the AE 1st version and the upgraded version.

... What about an "Imperial Edition" ?...

Now I have all the Isolated Scores to all 3 films, thanks to ocp's classic editions, I actually tried to sync up ABC's Audiophile ESB but it is just way beyond me.

Hi,

I haven't followed the thread but working on many improvements on the ESB AE tracks and checking some of their film mixes counterparts on Adywan's ESB reconstruction I was playing around running some of my tracks were they started over the film and oh boy !... I know I can layer the whole soundtrack on the film. The film mix has a different editing but I can (and have already) spot them all as I now know every notes of it.

I won't annoy everyone with my computer issues, just know that I have almost nothing installed here so I won't play with many softwares and learn how to convert sound for DVD.

Just know that if anyone is ineterested in having a special kind of "concerto" version of the film with my mixes for the sountrack overlayed I would only need the stereo tracks from the film that contain the music in lossless. I would just re-edit it with Audacity and send it back. (And two of a stroke, it would make this complex isolated score accurately built once for all). Only a couple of tracks would need to be lifted from the session mixes rather than the AE but it's not a problem.

... Just an idea. Perhaps a couple of serious tries would be reasonable before rushing into it.

Forget about the samples I've posted, guys. I think "Deal with The Dark Lord" is  pitch accurate in it, but "Captives" was a mistake. The pitch is ok in the AE. Then, no more samples until an entire update... That will avoid "unavoidable" mistakes.

... So JediTray, yes you were right: the retakes are W.I.P for now.

NEWS:

Hi. As announced a couple of posts ago I'm back again on a few corrections... Well, to tell the truth, the whole set has been under revision: stereo (several layered or anthology tracks), EQ's on almost all the set, and pitch corrections (a couple). Also corrected some mistakes I made messing with the mixes (Ice Planet Alt, Mynock Cave SE version). I also made an alternate CD2 with alt. editing all the long, notably possible thanks to bits from the ESB Radio Drama story book. ...

I'll make a big update in the future if there are enough people still interested in a global improvement of this score. It's already done.

New Spider-Man Movie Basically a Batman Begins Remake

Here's my theory:
Marvel is getting all of its properties back and rebooting them ("The Incredible Hulk" and the just-announced "Punisher", for example) so that they can exist the shared Avengers Movie Universe they are creating. Sony must have still have the rights for more Spider-man movies, so they're going to reboot it while they still can so that when the rights defer back to Marvel, Marvel will be less likely to reboot it for the third time in a decade and Sony can still bank on their existing movies instead of having them erased by what would amount to be the "Official Marvel" version.
This is only my theory, but I think it makes sense business-wise.

When you say Marvel, you mean Disney ? (If I don't mistake I remember they bought Marvel...)
