I think the blue ray release might blow all your efforts down.

I kinda remember my grand brother reading me an article at the time of RotJ when I was young reporting that Georges Lucas was developping a "blue laser" technology for the future. I also "kinda remember" this was stated in "STARFIX Hors Serie n°1 - Le Retour Du Jedi" in France.

I also remember GL didn't want to release Star Wars on DVD at the origin because he waited a better format to be available.

And I finally remember the fake RotJ title: "Blue Harvest"...

Secret Plans ?... Sorry to say, but I think you're all going to be the big "blue harvest", guys.

Thanks a lot D_J ! I just added those in the OP.

It's really great, and seeing these reenforce my thought that SW and Jedi wouldn't give such a result. They would just be nice, but not as great.

The Mynock Cave sequence is even better than I thought ! :) Can't wait to see the entire bunch...

PS: My bad, The final "Asteroid Field" segment could have been better synchronized. Great version as edited for the film though. ;)

later this afternoon I will send you(PM) clips of the "Mynock Cave" and "Asteroids" so you can get a preview .

Thanks! :) Perhaps we can share these samples here (assuming someone may be interested even if nobody posts here)...

PS: Hey, I hope my previous post hasn't broken the ambiance ! ;)

ABC, would you consider doing the same for ANH and ROTJ?

I to think this would be AWESOME, especially seeing this, but I am not going to push anything, but if so I will get the video ready and get the PCM's to ABC ASAP.

I've been restoring this ESB soundtrack for 6 months... so it needed it. It allowed me to spot every tiny bits of music edited, nudged, removed etc right away and make this film cut version in 5 days... I currently don't think the other two films deserve this treatment, notably when I haven't worked on turning their sound that good nor studied these that far. That would be a huge work then for someone who's not convinced it worth it.

ESB score is such a masterpiece (score and film) that I'm not that surprised it turned that good on the picture. D_J' s black and white musical version will be the cherry on the cake for me, I'm sure! :)

PS: Thanks a lot D_J ! :)

LOL ! I only have a light idea of what it gives working on the audio... Can't wait to "see" !

Any moment when you felt a lack in the synchronization... ? is the Hoth Battle alright ?

Can't wait to see the "Mynock Cave" and the "Asteroids" sequences.... And the Duels !!!

Great. The image quality I saw on your sample indeed fits with the music. It has something thrilling to watch. It happened sometime that I tried to see what the reediting give on Ady's reconstruction, being the only NTSC version I had, and it just didn't fit with the image quality: it missed the "reel feeling" !

Be sure I'll watch out for news :)

For further info, though it may be lost in the thread (but at least it will have been said), I used two Radio Drama bits on the score reconstruction in:

  • "Mynock Cave" part 1, for its dynamic range that sounds superior to the SE and fitting well with the following RSO parts

  • "Carbon Freeze" ending, allowing me to have the last faded horn note as heard in the film

Thanks a lot Luiswookie !

I don't know how much time you invested in this project, but let me tell you every single second of it was worth it. I own all the versions that you used to make this definitive collection and what can I say other than 'stunning'. I commend you sir for all the fans and new listeners abroad, thank you. You do justice in a world that sorely needs it.

I invested quite a lot of time. First mastering and editing were quite fast, but finding the "true" sound of this score for a whole 40 track set was a hard task! If I'd have forseen it I probably wouldn't have done it.

I'm glad to read you appreciate the set that way when knowing all the sources I used ! :) ... And yes, this masterpiece film music deserved "Justice" and it's surely an honour to have been able to do it ;)

... as you said, it seems WE are the only ones really interested...

So be it... ;)

... This just made me realize how far this work we're doing here, bringing all the qualities I saved from this soundtrack playing on the picture could be "wanted" as a valuable film (masterpiece) scoring archive. All is a matter of presentation, but I'm not ready to make a big effort for this, this time. I only found a better name for the topic... No more.

Anyway, I begin to think my restoration couldn't have a better purpose than going with yours. The "old" feeling of the picture in black and white definitely looks great.

D_J, If you want to see if it's worth before uploading the set, you may just have to take a closer look from "Drawing the Battle Lines" until "The Rebel Escape Again", and the 2nd part of "The Duel". The later is the less good synchro part with the last 1/3 of "Rebels Escape Again" However I more focused on the SFX's than on the music in general and it should be ok. Some tracks may be even better placed, as for the passage where Luke finishes his fall outside the City (the lack of synchro of the music has always bothered me in the film)... All the rest should fit quite like a glove.

Good news, my mix is now finished. I'll pm it to D_J tomorrow.

I'm starving to see the result. I won't give the full detail of this work cause 1) seems nobody wants to know these things, and 2) It would be too long...! :)

... The other good new is that I've been able to check thanks to this work that I now got rid of all the pitch defects of the different recordings I restored for this soundtrack. The one I recently made for the SE track "Deal With The Dark Lord" thanks to the NPR Radio Drama is very good besides. The last pitch corrections that were left and are not on the Audiophile Ed. concerned RSO CD tracks ("Mynock Cave", "Han and Leia" and "Yoda And the Force").

Well g-force's scripts really improved the image(with what you mentioned and other) and it is made anamorphic(16:9) and they will have all the available audio mixes for the first time ever, no other set can say that, I am sure other people will chime in and tell you how nice these are, and 1 might comment about how it is not, but the ignore feature here is great for that.

If you like the Theatrical versions of each film this is the set to get, I think the only way this set can be beat is by only GL himself releases them.

Hope this helped somewhat LOL.

So basically, your GOUT v3 set is going to knock everyone else's out of the water? Okay then I'm definitely sitting it out until you finish and release this one :) I downloaded ROTJ GOUT v1 to ease the waiting pain until then :)

See... ? I was right to ask ! ;)

My only grip about such threads is that it is for the technical "elite" only. A lot of the "preservation" forum threads are more apparented to the "technical discussions" sections 'imho', and if it's yet quite difficult to follow such discussion for someone who is a stranger to tech ways, imagine for the non-english that I am.

Other than the english issue, that's exactly how I feel about your music threads! ;-)

I agree for the OE thread, as we spoke a lot for msycamore.

For the AE all the "technical" is concentrated in the OP with only the basis of what is to understand to know what was wrong at the origin with some recordings... And please note: I just explain the best I can in order to avoid any further questions about my ways. I discovered all that the time to restore the ESB score. Otherwise, I'm only an EQ's player and only one time I spoke about remastering recently cause I had a couple of pm's about this. Worth to notice, Hairy_Hen's (for exemple) rich comments on the sound and his potential are sometimes way beyond my vocab, even in my language ! Haha. I don't know a damn thing otherwise my friend. We always learn.

Well, I guess one have to accept this particularity and give the effort it requires to find out by himself ... :)
