This doesn't ring a bell for me. But once I organize all the ROTJ commercial clips I have, I'll keep an eye out for that.

*bump*

Anybody know of any commercials that have aired this year (2006)?

I know of at least a handful of trailers for the Lego Star Wars II game.

Does commercials for the DVD release count? I'm pretty sure there was at least one aired.

That's right; there were those as well. I saw a couple on TV, but I don't think I have any of them. Did anybody capture these in decent quality, or find them anywhere?

Save off the 1k ref files, open them in Quicktime and you'll see the url for the full file.

>>Have you thought to try and track down any TV promos for the Holiday Special? I'm sure there were some. Those would be a hoot to see after all these years.
>> SKOT: You can bet I've thought about that many times... I'm sure there had to be some as well, and chances are I may have even seen one on TV back in the day. But unfortunately, I've never in all these years found any further evidence of one.

Late reply.

I showed Skot this months ago, but a TV ad for the Holiday Special definitely turned up on Youtube. It advertised the special, as well as a show called Flying High.

Weirdly, now that I've posted this, I can't find the damn thing. Doesn't show up in a search for the Star Wars Holiday Special.

EDIT: Yep. Thank you Google caching. "This video has been removed at the request of copyright owner CBS Corporation because its content was used without permission"

2241 views before it was taken down.

The video was posted by user 8traxrule. You can PM him over at youtube.

He wrote: "Found this on a tape of the "Hawaii Five-O" that aired the night before (11/16/78). Wish I could find a copy of the special that looks this good. Did anyone tape the "Flying High" show that came on afterwards? ..."

DVD-Boy did you actually get this to work? I was able to capture thet ref files but didn't see a url for the full file.

Sure,

Open the ref.mov with Notepad, and along with a load of garbage characters there's a url:

It's from a cut scene from the Boba Fett cartoon in the Holiday Special.

2241 views before it was taken down. Yes indeed... mighty CBS, in all their wisdom, gave it the axe. I'm wondering if it was more due to copyright infringement or embarrassment?

I did a little checking into that as well. CBS actually regretted the decision to take those spots down, after they'd wised up and decided to partner with YouTube rather than fight with them. Check out this quote from CBS about it from the Wikipedia page on YouTube:

"Our inclination now is, the more exposure we get from clips like that, the better it is for CBS News and the CBS television network, so in retrospect we probably should have embraced the exposure, and embraced the attention it was bringing CBS, instead of being parochial and saying ‘let’s pull it down.’"

Quick change of tune, eh? Maybe they'll think twice about being so hasty next time.

I was in touch with 8traxrule previously, but lost touch after the spots got pulled. I'm trying to get hold of him again, but have not had much luck so far.

I'm thinking I might be the first to say that it's good to see you here again. In the Star Wars ghetto, I mean.

After reading about the holiday special promo, I did a bit of searching and found 8traxrule posting in the hometheatre forum, including a post discussing the promo being pulled from youtube
Look for the postings by Jesse Skeen (AKA 8traxrule), especially the one dated '07-28-2006, 10:22 PM'

Looks like he posts there regularly, so seems a likely way to try and get in touch with the guy.

Heheh. Thanks. Don't expect to see me here much - I'm never going to be a fan of what George is doing these days.

SW.com has posted a full version of the old anti-smoking PSA in pretty good quality. It would fit nicely here.
