Love it or hate it, TPM changed how films are made. Usually movies would have "effects sequences". It was a new thing to have effects used in pretty much every shot as part of telling the story.

Loath it. Loath it long time.

That sig image is a tad large, Duracell. Could you make it a little smaller please?

I actually liked quite a lot about Episode 1. To my 13 year old mind, it had much that was cool about Star Wars at that time. It had lightsaber battles, some strange new worlds, a prophecy, and some intrigue.

Episode 2. Across the Stars. And...Hmm. I'll get back to you on that.

Episode 3. 3 scenes. First, the capital ship crashing down on Coruscant. That was what Star Wars should be. Adventure, excitement, destruction on a massive scale, everything. Second, Padme's Ruminations scene. Silence is golden. Third, the first minute of the Order 66 scene. During that sequence, up to and including the reaction of Yoda, you feel that this is what the prequels have built up to for three movies. After that, the sequence drags on, with George having fun with his computers.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

"Loath"? And this fella's taken it upon himself to rewrite the prequels?

That's some bad hat, Harry

Hey! He's not the only one. Quite a lot of people have done it too. I've done it myself, and I loath them too. Don't knock it 'til you try it.

What do I like?

This

Pernille August is the only really great actor in the whole thing. And the scenes between Anakin and his mother in both films are the only ones that really lend any credence to the idea that this is supposed to be a tragedy.

Loath: Unwilling to do something contrary to one's ways of thinking; reluctant.

Loathe: To dislike greatly and often with disgust and intolerance.

"I was loath (reluctant) to rewrite the prequels."

"I loathe (dislike) the idea of rewriting the prequels."

There are only three of them. I guess that's a plus. ;)

Now there are three of them... there may be more in the future though.

I actually agree. I felt jolted back to my very young self again, like the original adventuresome sense of "Star Wars-iness" returned to the series, if only just for that one scene.

If that happens there will be too many of them.

Watch it with the image-only posts - you need to read the announcement entitled How Not To Get Banned.

You've already been warned once before so consider yourself lucky - I must be in a festive mood otherwise you would be serving out a temporary ban right now.

Guidelines for post content and general behaviour: read announcement here

Moth3r isn't being festive (that would be more horrific than a new trilogy of Hayden films).

There is text in and outside the image so it's not an image only post.

It's pretty close to one though (as in here be dragons) ;-)

He is still his usual scary self and we could have done with a bit more of that earlier in the week.

I don't know. I've found that the prequels actually cause me constipation rather than relieving it.

Plus, if you have an annoying visitor, they are more likely to like the prequels, so that plan may backfire.

So as some know, I'm working on a project to collect missing material from the Star Wars films.  I'm largely done with the OT, but I've been collecting stuff for the PT--not as extensive because I don't find the PT to be nearly so awesome, but a decent amount.  As I'm doing so, I'm using sites like T-bone's Star Wars Universe.  This is a very cool site with tons of information.  One of the things that impresses me is the context given for much of the deleted material.  And when referring to the PT, I can't help but think, "Ooh, the movies would have been better if they left in that line, or this scene, or that shot."  While the PT is clearly inferior to the OT, I do still enjoy it.  But I am sure I would have enjoyed it more had it been edited differently, not just cutting out a bunch of junk, but including some stuff currently missing, including some stuff that didn't even make it to the BDs.  I am now convinced that in spite of weak acting, overuse of CGI, and a weaker script, the films could have still been dramatically strengthened with some better editing.

I think I already mentioned this, but I like a few things:

  1. the lightsaber battle in TPM
  2. the choral score during the lightsaber battle in TPM
  3. seeing Tatooine again
  4. creepy puppet yoda (hey, at least it's real)
