I couldn't have said it any better.  This movie is shit, pure and simple.

I love this.  Any time someone criticizes a movie for being crap, it's always "go make your own".  Well, why can't the Director and Creator just make something good instead of throwing a bunch of shit on the screen that he thinks kids will like?  He didn't seem to have a problem doing that in 77, but in 2008 he has failed miserably.

You may think it's shit, but it's obvious that not everyone feels that way. At least Lucas is staying true to his vision instead of putting out movies based on poll results. If he had done that, then the Star Wars movie that was released in 77 would have been far different.

He's entitled to his own vision, whether you and I like it or not. Hate the movie if you want, yeah keep trash talking it. But you might be better off if you did something more constructive with your time.

Haha, yeah, because I obviously spend all day here (check out the time of the post before that last one).

Lucas' isn't staying true to any "vision".  The "vision" he claims to have is nothing more than revisionist history.  Vader being Luke's dad was done for dramatic purposes.  Leia being his sister was also done for dramatic purposes and was definitely a last minute after thought.  There is no grand vision and there never was.  If there were, the prequels would not have nearly the amount of problems and continuity flaws with the originals that they do.

ANH was groundbreaking and a huge success at the box office.  Even Lucas didn't think it would do as well as it did.  But Lucas also wasn't the only one in control back then.  There were all kinds of people involved.  It was truly a collaborative effort, unlike everything he's done since the SEs.

It's quite obvious to me that a majority of moviegoers think Tropic Thunder and The House Bunny are better movies than The Clone Wars.  How else do you explain that a Star Wars movie premieres at #3 and then drops to #5 after a week?  That's unheard of for Star Wars.  If I were a betting man, I'd guess that The Clone Wars will be out of the top 10 by next weekend.  There's a 3 day weekend coming up and Babylon AD will be released.  Even if it does remain in the top 10, I'm sure it'll drop 2-3 spots again.  That is sad.

This is a kinda sad defence. Are you basically saying that Star Wars is alive because of all the novels and tangential projects going on? Is that all that keeps Star Wars in the minds of its fans? Is Star Wars only popular because of its popularity? If so, then I welcome the "death" of Star Wars.

In the 80s, the public grew tired of Lucas' tagential Star Wars projects (Ewok movies, droid and ewok cartoons). From all outward appearances, Star Wars died. In the early 90s it was reborn as a more serious and mature franchise, all because it had never really died in the hearts of the "true believers" in the first place. Maybe (I hope) the same thing will happen again.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

I don't know.  I'm hoping it might just die from the public eye entirely rather than this slow, painful death it's being put through right now.

Mark Hamill once said "I don't think it ever left!".  That was in response to a question, after the SEs came out "Are you happy to see Star Wars back?"

We don't need a constant stream of books, movies, video games, comics, and toys to keep Star Wars alive.  We just need a few good stories and our memories.

So is this piece of shit turkey supposed to come to dvd in november sometime?

I saw a listing on amazon uk for both the dvd and blu ray versions.

Clone Wars quality is strictly direct to dvd quality, not even television quality.  Yet here it is up on the silver screen.

I cannot believe Dave Filoni who made the generally well received Avatar the Last Airbender worked on this crap.  I guess i have to think Lucas had a hand in the movie Like Indiana IV so the big cringe worthy moments are his.

Man...This is just a tv show, and it wasn't that bad. I'd rather watch the Clone Wars with my little boy than half the shit that's on TV at the moment. If I'm gonna watch shit, I may as well watch Star Wars shit. But really, it wasn't that shit. Shit man!!

The fact that Dave Filoni directed it has actually piqued my curiosity more than the fact that it's Star Wars.  I'm a big Avatar fan (recently), so I was quite surprised to learn, after I heard all the bad press about this movie, that it was an Avatar director who had done it.  So it's been a slight interest of mine to watch it and compare it to some of the work he's done on Avatar.  Unfortunately, it hasn't piqued my interest enough to actually go do it.  I'll probably wait until it comes out on DVD and just rent it.

Things might have been different if Dave Filoni had free reign, George has admitted to coming in and saying "i want this" and having things go his way.

i agree with  u on that. it would be interesting to see someone else's imagination of star wars on the big screen.

I finally saw it tonight.

Not as bad as all the vented spleenage I've read on the net made it out to be. Dare I say it was more fun than most of the prequels? The animation style is very different, and I like that it doesn't look like a Pixar film. The character design is highly stylized and gave me a bit of a Supermarionation vibe. (Which apparently is what Lucas was after.) Palpatine reminds me of one of those dried apple head figures! I noted they didn't try to conceal his visage in one Sidious hologram.

Anakin is actually likeable for a change. Ashoka takes a bit getting used to, but she does pay off in the finale. (I look on the whole Padawan issue being a wartime condition, much like battlefield promotions.) She will probably be neatly tucked out of the way before the events of Episode III, so why lose sleep over it? The old Marvel comic unintentionally dug itself into deeper holes than this, and managed to set things straight before Empire and Jedi came out. ;)

The battle scenes are fun, and easy to follow what's going on. I liked the wall climbing assault on the Bomarr(?) monastery, which was easy to mistake for Jabba's palace in the trailer. No major continuity busters, and less time on Tattooine than what was dreaded.

As in ROTS, the things that evolve into the Empire's hardware and uniforms are in evidence.

I couldn't help but smile at Jawas drooling over a wrecked spaceship before the engines are even cold. Beats the heck out of falling off a ronto antics.

I'm glad Dooku gets some onscreen villian time. He was dispatched much too soon it ROTS.

Ziro the Hutt was interesting. Hutts are the sell your own mom up the river back-stabbers I've imagined them to be. Some people are reading way too much into the Truman Capote voice though. I liked that he had IG-88 type droids for his muscle, as I long thought they should have been the design for the battledroids, which unfortunately, are back as bad comedy relief.  Even the bad guys get fed up with them! If I hear "roger roger" one more time!

The cute baby Hutt stuff threatens to go over the line at times, but as the McGuffin, the little spudboy serves his purpose.

It's amazing that a simple look between Padme and Anakin speaks more eloquently than most of the dialog they had in the prequels.

Strangely enough, no JarJar. Have to give them points for that. ;)

So I laughed, I cried, I kissed $9.50 goodbye. I will give the series a shot. And hey, it's better than those Ewok movies!

Lucas excuses the wooden animation as based on the Gerry Anderson Thunderbirds. Wtf?

Did not the creators of South Park release a movie which made fun of that style?

Puppets on wires are not hand drawn animation and neither is bogus cgi rendered like a ps2 cut scene.

I have seen fluid animation that is surprisingly lifelike in Final Fantasy the Spirits Withing and Appleseed: Ex Machina, as well as the Incredibles by Pixar none of which is seen here.

Still the cg comes off as lifeless unlike Live Action or Hand drawn traditional animation.

Animation is still not close enough to replicating real human expression and movement, again the closest thing I have ever seen was spirits withing and that is dated now.

Wall-E will most likely win the Academy Award for animation. Eventually the Clone Wars movie will be in a bargain dvd bin for five bucks.

Another film that is a trial run for pushing the state of the art in Lucas computer devision, a film that lacks a good story and i am sure there are grade schoolers who could write a better story than Lucas he is all washed up.

I mean the dude should have remained retired after Return Of the Jedi. AT least then he would not be shitting all over the good movies he made, and forever ruined the saga with the prequels and special editions neither which was needed or wanted . His legacy is now one of being a pariah instead of a hero to the masses of sci fi fans and film goers.

I think i am glad now that he did not do episodes 7-9 because they would have destroyed the original characterizations Of Luke, Han and Leia. Only to be Replaced with bad dialogue and crappy and useless and moronic cgi, plus he would have had plenty of fart and poop jokes. Perhaps even creating a bad racist character sidekick who is useless and the audience wants to see die a horrible death.

Also Spielberg should retire as well War of the Worlds and Kingdom of the Crystal skull are Turkeys unworthy of his prior good movies.

Actually, the South Park guys wanted to make a Thunderbirds movie, but the rights were already snapped up to make that live action film.

Anyway, just wanted to put my two cents out there since I actually saw the movie. We now return you to our regular programming, already in progress. ;)

The more I start looking at the negative posts in these threads, the more washy it becomes....

It reads like "blah..blah blah blah and more blah. Won't George Lucas just..blah...blah....blah...everything he does goes to...blah blah blah..."

It's a broken record in this forum. It's not even worth my time. I really should stick to the preservation and how to forums.

I'm done. Thanks for the push.

Wow, Final Fantasy cost 137 million dollars to make? There's been inflation since then . . . That had to hurt. Clone Wars is probably doing a lot better than that.

From the article on the previous page:

In the case of “The Clone Wars” he is financing the series himself and charging Time Warner licensing fees to distribute the film and broadcast the show. (A person with knowledge of the company’s animation operations, speaking anonymously to avoid offending Mr. Lucas, said that the earliest episodes of “The Clone Wars” probably cost $750,000 to $1.5 million each.

Definitely under 5 million. Add the cost of prints and distribution. A pretty cheap exercise.

Oh, yeah.  Final Fantasy was considered one of the biggest box-office bombs in history, sadly.  Granted, it didn't do that poorly, but it was just nearly impossible for it to break even with a production budget that huge.  Its huge failure was one of the main reasons that Square soon after merged with competitor Enix.

Yeah I just saw Final Fantasy The Spirits Within several months ago and I'm amazed Lucas wasn't involved in the project because I thought, only he could make such a turkey. ;-) -skyjedi2005

I actually like the Final Fantasy movie aside from the somewhat lack of emotion the characters displayed.  I blame that on the fact that it was 100% CG, so the animators had to do everything themselves.  I was shocked to see one of the main characters was the spitting image of Ben Affleck.

But yeah, there's no way FF could have made its budget back.  I wonder if they even ever intended to.  The movie seemed more like an excercise of "can we do this" than "can we do this successfully".  I think, for its time, it did a pretty good job showing us what was possible.

Wait, i thought the joke was only those who paid for it?

Crygor64 has skillz.  I wish i was able to post out of both sides of my a$$.

The joke is on people who willingly paid to see Clone Wars only after watching and hating the PT. I don't hate the PT but many of the complainers in this thread do. They are quite vocal about their PT hate and yet they still went out to see CW. (lol)

(ps: Reading is fundamental.)

There is a comic strip on the previous page that sums up this hypocrisy perfectly.

And BTW, as far as I know your ass only has one side. The backside.

Sooooo, how much money has this film made?

Also, a quick question for Negative 1.  First, I enjoyed your screen caps but let me get to my question.  Assaj Ventress force throws a Battle Droid off a cliff.  Does the Droid scream "why?!" as he is thrown over?  That's what it sounded like to me.

I saw it with my girlfriend on Sunday.  And guess what?

I liked it.  I really enjoyed it.  We both did.

Now, we both still have big problems with the prequels.  But I tried to go into the theater with no real expectations either way.  And I quite honestly had a really good time watching it.  It reminded me of reading the old Marvel Star Wars comic books back when I was a kid, or the newspaper strips.  It was basically just fun stories set in the Star Wars universe.  They didn't always have to be great, but they were always exciting to read.  And something about this being animated rather than live-action gave it an excuse to be less serious.  I really laughed at some of the jokes that would have irritated me in a live-action film (the battle droid screaming "whyyyyyyy?!" when Ventress force-throws him off the ledge is one good example - I pointed and guffawed!).  I didn't find myself cringing like I did with the prequels.  I think I had a smile on my face the whole time.

I do need to mention though that we were absolutely the only people in the theater.  Period.  I don't think I've ever had an entire theater to myself before.  Of course I didn't mind; we could sit anywhere in the whole place and make as much noise as we wanted.  But it did drive home the point that this film has really bombed.  I don't think it really deserved to bomb like it did (far worse films that deserved to bomb have done far better), but on the other hand I do hope it finally sends a wake-up call to George Lucas that the majority of the fans have had enough of buying anything he wants to sell them.

Personally, I'm excited to see more chapters of the Clone Wars... but realistically I really do think it's time for Lucas to put Star Wars aside and move on.  You cut the golden goose open, George, and there's nothing in there but entrails now.  Concentrate on the golden eggs you already have called the Original Trilogy... polish them up properly before you sell them (again), and then move on and make some great, non-Star Wars movies.  Please.

i'll be posting some more screen caps of more great scenes from the movie shortly..

but crygor64 is missing the point about people that watched the PT, and

still went to see the clone wars in the theater anyways, and still complain..

people will always find something to complain about,

thats why we're here,

that's why this board is here..

heck, thats why half the internet is here..

if we never had problems with Lucas, the films, or anything else,

no one would be here posting anything...

and thats why it still surprises me at times (not anymore), about why

dont people just ignore Star Wars SE, the PT, the clone wars, and everything else that

comes out..... and just leave the rest of the people (not only tfn, or starwars.com people),

who actually do enjoy them, to have them to watch, and enjoy.. [or maybe i just answered

my own question ... see above, about people who's only point is to complain]..

you know the LUCAS stopped catering to the 'real' fans a long time ago in a galaxy

far, far away......  so why do you have 'a new hope' that he will actully put something

out again that you will enjoy??????????

if you don't 'move along' with what he's doing, then you're doomed to keep being

disappointed, and keep complaining -> endless loop
