Where are you guys getting this unlisted video from? Lol. Clearly the two of you got it from the same source.
It would if you just had Kylo remembering Han’s words in TFA. You could potentially have Kylo hear both of their voices, like stream of consciousness.
That would serve TLJ the best anyway, Luke occupying his mind “just like [his] father.”
But, the scene serves a purpose already and we have his vision flashback at the start of the film to illustrate this. If we had it be a ghost conversation rather than a set of memories, that’d be different, but the problem there is that it’s undercut Luke’s existing introduction in the movie later (aside from flashbacks).
I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.
Remember the line “See you around kid”? Someone made a convo between Luke and Kylo that really fits well in my opinion.

The Skywalker Saga:

This is the way.
Yeah I found the original post I just don’t normally go on r/fanedits funnily enough.
Repost from other thread about dialogue for the Ascendant Rey nobody version:
“Rey, I’ve seen the rest of your story.”
“Tell me.”
"I saw what you would become. The darkness in your future. Face Palpatine alone, and you’ll be giving him what he wants. You’ll kill him, and take the throne.”
"But you don’t have to go alone. Palpatine only wants us to fight so the strongest can be his heir. What he doesn’t know is we’re a dyad in the force, Rey… two, that are one. We can end him and the Sith, and create a new order, together…”
Thoughts on this? This way, the vision Rey and Kylo have can be true, because Rey doesn’t go alone. In the end, she has Ben with her. He appears right as Rey is about to kill Palpatine. The force duel doesn’t really need to be changed as Spence’s is already good. This would also use Spence’s removal of Rey’s line where she says she wants to destroy Palps.
So I decided to watch the first 15 minutes of Rise of Skywalker and then straight after your’s, and I would say that the opening should still be extended by like a minute or two. How? I have absolutely no idea. But the theatrical opening of the film is so bad, fast and rapid it loses all sense of importance and calm.
Just wanted to add that… i don’t recall much of what else happens in the film, but perhaps something could be added to the opening with Kylo before he attacks the forest planet / flies to Palpatine to give the film’s opening some needed breathing space and calm.
As for cutting out Kylo touching Vader’s mask in the Rey training sequence; beautiful! The original cut is so jarring and bad! This is how it should be. Perhaps add Kylo talking to the mask before the forest sequence? I don’t know how you use this scene later, but the opening of the film really stand out. It just doesn’t work!

There is a deleted scene of Kylo Ren from TLJ looking out the command center of a Star Destroyer while some TIEs fly by which could easily slot itself before we go to the planet because the original shot of Mustafar has TIEs and said Star Destroyer. Add some of those Sith whispers as he stares at the stars, and it would be golden. But there are a couple of problems:
- We’d need to see his own ship flying down to Mustafar’s surface to understand how he suddenly got there. Fixing Disney Star Wars commissioned a really talented VFX artist who used to be on this forum to do this for a project (Petrovelly, I believe). Their project is now defunct, and they didn’t have the decency to release these materials to the community. So unless somebody can think of some sort of clever transition method, it probably wouldn’t work.
Aw, man. I had no idea that happened. That sucks!
Yeah, I always knew they were a bunch of crooks. This is one of the last things they said on Reddit:
“Nope, we don’t have anything to do with anyone from OT. We tried to work with them at the beginning of this project, and (to be frank) they treated us like trash and then attempted to sabotage our edit of Episode 9 by taking works we had not yet made public and disseminating it on their forums and to their users. Some even claimed our work as their own by posting it on YouTube. They also trashed-talked us in their forums despite us never having spoken to them or being involved. They blocked our account the day of (or just after) we had joined their site. The term “gatekeeping” isn’t something that should be used lightly; however, it is our opinion that they gatekeep the SW fan editor community. There’s likely many people there who have great intentions and are there to just see improvements on these films, but there are also those there who are driving people away from fan editing with their online behaviour and attitudes to other editors. Don’t know Hal 9000 and don’t watch his work.”
Here’s the truth: I merely commented on one of their videos exactly what I stated on my last post here - they should take a look at that deleted scene of Kylo Ren from TLJ to lead into Petrovelly’s VFX work. Then I shared a link with them to an UNLISTED video on my channel which demonstrated this concept with their watermarked footage. So nobody ever claimed their work lmao. The reality is that they were salty I was giving them suggestions without giving them money first. They are the true gatekeepers stopping the community from having something special for this movie.
But that’s neither here nor there. At least we have SOMETHING in Ascendant that’s better than the original quick transition to Mustafar’s surface.

Right on, to both of these quoted statements. IDGAF about the drummed up drama. About fan edits, of all things.
About Kylo’s dialogue. It’s not that it’s a bad rewrite, but I’d like to avoid more AI dialogue than is necessary. I’ll have to let it sit and think on it, but it isn’t strictly necessary.
I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.
True, I definitely don’t want to overdo the AI for any Ascendant version. The version I said only has ~3 AI lines though, so with some mask distortion I think it would work.
Heh… I guess what we’re cooking up really needs a different name then because it’s gonna have a LOT of AI lines compared to v4. But mostly for Kylo, who I think is gonna sound the most seamless anyway.
Over in the Starlight Project Addendum thread, we’ve been thinking over a version of the Rey/Kylo dialogue which aims to fix a number of things to maintain consistency across the trilogy. I thought I’d post the latest version here, to see what people thought. The big thing to resolve here is the conflict onscreen between the idea that Rey’s parents were nobodies whilst her dad was Palpatine’s son, by removing the latter and having Rey created the same way Vader was - by Palpatine ‘using the force to create life’ - so she’s a ‘Palpatine’ in spirit with nobody parents. We’re then building on that idea to smooth out other bits of plot and inconsistency, like Palpatine’s plans throughout the trilogy, the Luke/Kylo conflict, Leia rejecting the Jedi path, the Dyad, and Rey declaring herself Skywalker.
We’re trying to preserve this as natural dialogue that works as Kylo presenting what he’s learned from Palpatine in order to convince Rey to join Kylo to overthrow Palps, so that all the other onscreen performance and context can be preserved. We’re trying to strike the balance between being expository without going too deep into the mechanics of how this all works, or making weird implications, and leaving some of the interpretation up to the viewer so it doesn’t conflict with existing canon. It should be the kind of thing that works onscreen when you’re watching it, that then holds up when you think about it later and might then reveal more neat connections that ‘just work’.
This dialogue is from a few pertinent scenes - it should be clear which ones, and who’s talking.
“Palpatine wants me to fight you.”
“Serving another master?”
“No. I have other plans…”
“I pushed you in the desert because I needed to see it… I needed you to see it… who you are. The dark side is your birthright. Rey…”
"You’re lying.”
“You were right about your parents, Rey. They were nobody. And nobody conceived you.”
“Don’t!”
“You’re so much like my grandfather. So like Darth Vader…”
“I don’t want this!”
“…destined for power.”
“No!”
“You’ve seen it, haven’t you?”
(Rey sees the vision of herself on the Sith throne)
“Luke saw the same fate in me. But together, we can resist that fate.”
“Stop talking.”
“I’m the only one who truly knows you.”
(Cutaway to heroes capture)
“When we first fought, in the forest, you reached out for the darkness inside you. You exposed yourself to Palpatine, and set yourself on the path toward your destiny… just as he’d intended…”
(Visions of Rey beating Kylo on Starkiller, falling into the dark cave, etc.)
“No!”
(A pedestal shatters and the mask of Vader falls to the ground)
“So that’s where you are.”
“Our paths have always been intertwined."
“No…”
"I’ll come tell you why.”
“Rey, I learned the rest of our story.”
“Tell me.”
"Palpatine influenced the Force itself into creating life. First my grandfather, and then you. Both were once his chosen heir. You… are a rightful Palpatine.”
"Now, the Emperor wants us to fight each other, so you can reach your full potential and claim the throne. But he doesn’t know how much our conflicts strengthen our connection, Rey… a bond, not of blood, but of raw power in the Force. We can end him and the Sith, and create a new order, together…”
“What are you most afraid of?”
“Myself…”
“Because you’re a Palpatine? His power runs in my bloodline too.”
“Final lesson. Rey… Some things are stronger than blood. Confronting fear is the destiny of a Jedi. Your destiny, if you don’t face Palpatine, will mean the end of the Jedi. And the war will be lost. There’s something my sister would want you to have.”
“Leia’s saber.”
“She was quick to learn in our training. But Leia felt that her passionate nature would make the easy path to power too tempting for her. She surrendered her saber to me and said that one day it would be picked up again by someone with the spirit to face that darkness.”
“Long have I waited… I never wanted you dead. I wanted you here, Empress Palpatine. You will take the throne. It is your birthright to rule here. It is in your blood.”
“I haven’t come to lead the Sith. I’ve come to end them.”
“As a Jedi?”
“Yes.”
“No. Your hatred, your anger. You want to kill me. That is what I want. Kill me, and my spirit will pass into you, as all the Sith live in me. You will be Empress. We will be one.”
“All you want is for me to hate but I won’t. Not even you.”
“Weak. Your master, Luke Skywalker, was saved by his father. The only family you have here… is me.”
(Everything after this point would be unaltered Ascendant v4).
I don’t think Hal will be particularly interested in using AI voices to this extent for his personal projects. Perhaps at least until we see how good it sounds now 😉
One other thing to mention - I’m currently in disagreement about Kylo’s final paragraph to her for reasons I’ve posted on the other thread. Here’s how that was before:
"Now, the Emperor wants us to fight each other, so his most worthy heir can claim the throne. But he hasn’t realized the strength of our connection, Rey… a bond, not of blood, but of raw power in the Force. We can end him and the Sith, and create a new order, together…”
I also think I should forward my own perspective on the ultimate goal of this edit from the Rey Nobody edit threat. While Eddie is right on for a lot of it, it’s only one matter of interpretation that he’s sharing:
The other idea more or less amounts to Rey Chosen One. The perspective I’m trying to favor over there is that Rey is simply the second chosen one created by the Force since Palpatine cheated death, and just like usual Palpatine is trying to use what the Force intended to destroy him for his own gain. Only this time, he’s lying that Rey and the Skywalkers belong to him alone. The reveal in the hangar is later revealed to be a lie [with Luke] clarifying that they were created by the Force only to destroy Palpatine. Then we get a second twist of the truth in that Palpatine claims he always intended for her to kill him, so perhaps what he said wasn’t a lie all along. But, in all likelihood, it is one since she overcomes him without using the dark side, claiming herself a Jedi and Skywalker (earning the latter in every way except exact genetic makeup).
…the idea we have on the other thread can never be Rey Nobody in essence, because Rey, despite being made by nobody (the Force itself) and raised as a nobody by nobodies, is still somebody of extreme importance in the grand scheme of things. But I think removing the direct lineage to Palpatine makes things more palatable, and for those who preferred a direct link to him for whatever reason, they can still imagine that Palpatine did maybe have a hand in how the Force designed them, despite the conclusion of everything pointing to the contrary (ya know, the part where Palpatine finally admits she’s nothing but a scavenger girl).
I don’t think Hal will be particularly interested in using AI voices to this extent for his personal projects. Perhaps at least until we see how good it sounds now 😉
Ah, apologies all if that’s the case, I must have missed him making that call! I had the impression this was all for a possible v5.
I haven’t fully decided for certain, but this recent slew of ideas feels like it ideally would belong to a Starlight-type project based on Ascendant. We’ll see, but most likely it won’t be included in Ascendant itself.
I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.
I’d agree, this change is major enough for it to be it’s own edit. If anything, some minor dialogue changes could help a V5. But what is in V4 stands on its own.

Fair! Apologies for the sidetrack!
Is there a screenshot of these 3 Palpatine clones in the tank?

I personally do like that AI produced conversation between Luke and Kylo. It definetly helps tie TLJ together with this film as that thread of “see you around kid” is never followed up on. It would be some nice connective tissue and is pretty quick and seem to be possibly seamless with some minor touch up. Just my two cents; the AI voice stuff has really come along way in just a year or so…it is impressive in my opinion.

Definitely agree with you
I think it could work in a hypothetical edit in which Kylo reveals during the hangar scene that Palpatine never wanted him to kill her. Or that they are simply meant to fight each other, and he doesn’t want Rey dead necessarily, just one of them. This is what I’m doing in Nev’s brainstorming thread, currently.
Because we currently have the scene before Endor, the only purpose it serves is reminding us that Palps wants Rey dead and that Kylo knows where she’s going. Arguably, having no such indication that he knows where she’s going would make his sudden appearance on the Death Star better. I like how the novelization describes how Rey is convinced at first that he’s a part of the vision she was just experiencing because it makes no sense for him to be there.
I’d be down to tool around with the scene and use my own voice clones (I’m biased to think they’re better than this reddit user’s at the moment). Of course credit for the original idea should go to them, though.
EDIT: This would also allow Luke to say something to Ben when he finds Rey’s dead body because we’d have precedence for him speaking into his head. Basically whatever we want him to say there to match when Ben twists his head and looks around the shattered throne room for some reason. This whole idea would discredit Palpatine’s statement that he’s been every voice in his head, which I’d say is a good thing so it’s clear Kylo was never being mind controlled.
