The new added sound of palpatine dying in johns newest scene with all the Ghost jedi is very cool, I hope we end up using that. I also like the one you added Cinefy. If you can’t hear it Hal, its around the 4 second mark, I sounds like the scream palpatine did while dolphin diving at mace windu in Episode 3.

Here is the puppet show! It’s very short, but hopefully people will think it’s worth all of the effort. I’m sure I’ll need to tweak it some more, so I’m just gonna share a streamable link until it’s finalized.

I may be wrong, but I believe DZ-330, Cinefy and DominicCobb all had this idea at one point or another.

I’ve mentioned this before, but I don’t really like the idea. I feel it’d take away the original point of the scene: to establish the stakes for the movie, hence Rey looking at the children - the future of the galaxy. Terrio even confirmed this in The Skywalker Legacy documentary. Now, it’d just be another reinforcement of Luke’s return on Crait and how it inspired hope.

Not trying to be rude but it feels like you disagree/argue with every change being considered in this edit. Maybe there is another edit that is more suited to what you would like to see or just stick with the Theatrical Cut.

As someone who does like TRoS, I just feel like some changes miss the original executed meaning of specific things/plot points/whatever and/or undermine those.

Holy hell. That’s just…gah! It’s amazing. Serious kudos to everyone involved!

If I could make one suggestion - I feel like the voiceover should be just shifted back just a tiny bit, so that Rey will hear the guy say “Skywalker” as she’s walking, and that’s what causes her to turn around and look.

Cool, thanks for the the feedback! That was definitely the idea, but I’ll try shifting that back more to make that clearer.

Absolutely stunning, thanks so much for bringing this idea to life. I love the idea of the Pasanna people having they’re own interpretation of what an AT-AT looks like going off of the stories they’ve heard.

Might not work, but would be amazing to have a little Skywalker chime play during the scene.

My face made a super candid, dumb little kid expression of genuine excitement.

That is sublime. It couldn’t look any better!

I wonder if the “Skywalker” name could be timed to imply it’s what initially catches Rey’s attention.

You know what? I don’t know how high of resolution the clean plate was rendered at, but I’d love to be able to linger on this moment a little longer. Like, maybe we could cut to a closeup of the stage, and do a little more with the puppets before the one kid laughs? It would be a great moment to help slow the pacing and take a breath before all of the Kylo nonsense starts up again.

But maybe that’s just me being greedy. I love the work you all did, okay??

EDIT: RL, I did this mock-up back when the voiceover was originally recorded. Maybe it could be timed like this? https://streamable.com/mdf0qj

That’s the point of a fanedit though… to change the meaning of specific things and plot points to the editor’s executed meaning.

It’s a funny image, Krennic appreciating a puppet show.

Also, in fairness to Testing, there are certainly edits out there that seem not to grasp what they’re altering and function in a reactionary way. I don’t blame him for keeping alert about that, but sometimes it gets old.

But as I stated, the scene with the children establishes a connection with the galaxy in just TRoS (as if it were a standalone movie and not a sequel) and raises the stakes. It’s more personal and thus meaningful than just reinforcing TLJ. The heroes are fighting for the future of the galaxy, which the children symbolize.

Puppet show looks incredible! I just wish it was slowed down a tiny bit because of how nice it looks.

I don’t even totally disagree. But I think it’s worthwhile to accentuate Rey’s identity and how the legend of Luke comes into play.

But the problem with that statement is that this is a sequel in a very disjointed trilogy, and any connections to help make it feel more connected should be a welcome change.

The stakes are still there. The kids have hope for the future because of Luke’s sacrifice, just like Rey. It’s another reason for Rey to want to fight, to make Luke’s sacrifice worth it.

Hal 9000, maybe you’re right. But I feel like I recommend against making the mention of “Skywalker” be the thing that causes Rey to look at the kids - she looks at the kids in the first place because they are what she and the Resistance are fighting for.

The movie is called The Rise of Skywalker

The scene immediately afterwards she is asked for her “family name”.

The whole puppet show and surrounding scene is used to help reinforce the ending of the film and actually make Rey’s name change feel earned.

Rey reacting to “Skywalker” helps to show that the spark that will ignite the fire that will burn down the First Order because of Luke’s sacrifice is still alive and it is worth it for her to continue fighting and accept being a Jedi. Because THAT’S what she and the Resistance are fighting for.

Ah, gotcha. Sorry for missing your nuance. Rey sort of moseys over to take a look so I’d think having “Skywalker” precede that would make it so early in the little sequence as to be unnoticeable.
Hard to say until I play with it.

Hal, I posted an old test I did with the voiceover up above. Maybe something like that?

And Testing, a good scene can accomplish multiple things at once. We can simultaneously recognize Luke’s sacrifice, while also highlighting, “Look, there are children in the galaxy! Aren’t they pure?”

The shot is truly stunning, guys.

wow! that is incredible. Might I suggest the part showing the puppet show be slowed down, because it happens so fast, its a blink and u miss it. Another suggestion is since they’re speaking another language. Add subtitles to the dialogue (similar to when we hear some huttese relevant to the story) to give a more explicit sense.

Author

I don’t think subtitles are needed since they aren’t talking with the main characters.
