Just when I’m thinking about how to display all of mine. Do I have to put a hazmat sign on the display case now? Bad enough things like Christmas lights have lead warnings on them these days.

That article implies touching the outside of the glass is the issue. In any case, I kept mine in a dark cabinet out of reach, yet my dad would use my ESB glasses for whatever that spicy egg nog like concoction he liked to have on a weekend for a few years. Boy, was I pissed about that at the time. Interesting thing is they survived untold trips inside the dishwasher that faded other things like Muppet glasses. The paint on the Star Wars and ESB glasses always seemed more durable than the Jedi set.

What of all those plastic tumblers I drank out of as a kid? And holy hell, are my 2009 Star Trek glasses even safe?

After all these years, I can’t recall for sure if BK sold you the SW glasses with soda in it or not.

I have to wonder about all the Sigma Star Wars ceramics now. Besides the infamous Threepio tape dispenser, they made mugs and even a Luke Taun Taun teapot.

None of those really struck me as really being suitable for having a cup of tea.

All my Sigma mugs perished in the 1994 Northridge Earthquake. My Rumph Star Wars mugs survived without a scratch. My Rumph Chewie survived a Laserdisc player landing on him, the player was totalled though.

Also had no idea my little warning would actually freak freak anyone out.

I assumed that most people would have had a few sips from the glasses back in the 70’s/80’s then forgotten about them or stored them in a cabinet never to be touched again, or something similar.

Well, at least now you know. Better late than never, I guess.

(At least the Burger Chef posters are safe. Hopefully)

And I didn’t know the teapot even existed until the first guide to Star Wars collectibles came out in the late 80’s.

I should probably find out if those Kryptonite rocks I’ve owned since 1978 aren’t just lethal to Superman while I’m at it.

I think 7-Eleven had the same cups. That guy in the commercial is funny too.

The Japanese ad gave me flashbacks to that French clip, which has horrified many around here before. That’s only the tip of the Japanese SW knockoff iceberg. 😉

From what I could find online, yes, I think so.
I also saw some ROTJ cups, so I might post some pictures of those some time later.

Hmm, “Message from Space” actually looks like a pretty decent B-movie.

“The War in Space” is a bit too on the nose though.
However Wookiee with horns is still less weird (and creepy) than disco Threepio.
(Also isn’t this just the space-suit from 2001: A Space Odyssey?)

I also just now realized that the Majik Market (& 7 Eleven) cups gave Ben a red lightsaber and Vader a blue one.

The legend goes a couple Toho executives were in Hollywood when people were lined up around the block to see Star Wars. They got The War in Space in the can and into Japanese theaters before Star Wars even opened there!

There’s a bizarre alternate version floating around online that splices in footage from a couple Godzilla movies and some Japanese tv shows, but nobody is sure who actually made it. It’s supposed to have aired on tv somewhere in the late 80’s or early 90’s.

Message From Space is cheesy fun. I had a lot of deja vu first time I saw it, as much of it’s FX footage was used in the 80’s Laserdisc game Astron Belt. The final battle scenes are so similar to Return Of The Jedi, I believe George must have seen it and took notes! 😉

These posters were apparently originally not meant to be used by Burger Chef at all.
According to artist Boris Vallejo;
"The posters were actually done originally as a promotional campaign for the Coca Cola Company, to be given away at movie theaters that showed “The Empire Strikes Back”. Subsequently they found other avenues."

(I’m guessing that the fourth poster was made for this, but Burger Chef only used the first three, hence there’s no “Number four of four” or anything similar written on it. Either that or it could have been used to promote the other three posters. Does anyone actually know what this fourth poster was used for?)

My first though while watching this low res video was “what heck are these kids even playing with?”. Well, cardboard ‘puppets’ apparently. I couldn’t find much info about this until I found this article at StarWars.com and they do have a point when saying that these must have been extremely cumbersome to put together while eating at a Burger Chef.

Also, the C-3PO ‘puppet’ was the only one I could find a proper picture of.

(Nothing says “Funmeal” like a bunch of dead Rebel soldiers.)
