In the audiobook the narrator pronounces it “Lah-ah-uke”

Also I don’t think I would call it lazy because having Luke fight an insane clone of himself is pretty bold as it’s a pretty out there concept. I think him fighting another Dark Side user who is more machine than man would have been lazy.

What’s really funny is one member of the infamous hip hop band 2 Live Crew went by the moniker Luke Skyywalker, at least until Lucasfilm successfully sued over it.

Where were you in '77?

I have seen it all. It is objectively bad.

Implying the old EU was perfect.

Far from it. Old EU was full of crap. However, it managed to also produce some great stuff (mostly in video games medium), such as KOTOR, SWTOR and DF series. I am not saying that there is no chance new EU will eventually produce something good in future, however so far there has been nothing but crap. Therefore as it stands now: old EU >> new EU

It might have been a serviceable concept if it were given time to breathe in The Last Command, but as it is it’s pretty terrible. Most of Zahn’s writing on the Force makes it feel like a comic book superpower, rather than a spiritual one. Also, this is supposed to be a pics thread, so I’ll comment on this general crappiness:
Luuke
Awkward composition? Check. Glowstick lightsabers? Check. Dopey Luuke? Check.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

The worst part about that cover is that it was made by the same guy who made this;

The comic adaptions had some much better cover art (not brilliant, but much better);

Some of the foreign covers weren’t too bad either;

Also as a side note on Zahn’s writing, I never felt like the Force was written like a “super-power”, at least not to any further extent that what the Force would be when used in an action scenario. Also when you have to describe in text that Luke is using specific abilities to solve specific problems it will by default sound a lot less vague and mystical than what it did in the OT films.
Using the Force as a “super-power” is in my opinion a better description of how it was handled in the PT, but regardless I’d say it’d be close to impossible to keep the Force vague in a written context. Luke doing high Force jump in ESB works well because it’s visual, but when you have to describe in words that he used the Force to enhance his jump, it end’s up sound similar to a super-power. I’m just glad Zahn never refereed to it as a “Force-jump”. Now that sound like something from a superhero comic.

It’s not a super power? Explain a Jedi stopping a star destroyer and making it crash.

I agree that it should have had more development. Luuke came out of fucking nowhere.

Most of Zahn’s writing on the Force makes it feel like a comic book superpower, rather than a spiritual one.

I’m going to need examples because going off my memory he wrote the Force as if…it’s just the Force. Nothing seemed different about it as it was establish in the OT. I’m not even sure how one could discern the difference between a comic book power and a spiritual one.

Nah, you actually tear it out of the sky. It’s really dumb.

The TFU games are some of the goofiest things to ever happen to Star Wars canon.

Yeah. That’s not how the Force works.

They were fun to play, I will give them that. But boy if you even stop to think about the story and its implications on Star Wars in general, your brain will melt out through your ears.

The Force Unleashed is one of the most stupid Star Wars things ever made. And if we normalise it to the amount of attention/importance it was given by LF, it is definitely by far the most stupid Star Wars thing ever made.

I’ve barely only started his first book but already there’s a Force kryptonite… so there.

Exactly. Fun games and fun to think of as a “what if.” None of it should be taken seriously canon-wise, and thankfully now they’re officially not.

Thank god all the movies make sense.

They changed what is considered canon officially now? Thank God. I knew allowing various authors the ability to write canon would be bad unless they really policed them, like they do in Star Trek.

They have, yes. Basically everything created before The Force Awakens came out (with a few exceptions like the first six films, The Clone Wars TV series, and a few short stories leading up to TFA) has been relegated to “Legends” status, which is all still available, but no longer canon, regardless of its previous “canonical level”.

Everything created after The Force Awakens is all top-level canon, which means that all of it is as canon as the movies. There is now a group of people at LucasFilm called the “Story Group” that have final say in whether or not a story or project is created as well as input in the creation of new stories.

However, as far as a lot of people are concerned, the Story Group’s judgement isn’t amazing and the state of the New Expanded Universe isn’t too much better right now than the Old Expanded Universe.

I already knew about pre TFA stuff being non canon now. I thought they stopped accepting non movies as canon now too tho. I guess not. I am worried that wierd things will slip through and the canon is gonna get messed up again.
