This is true…but even if a film’s meaning/story ect is very hard to grasp shouldn’t completely negate the quality of that story/meaning ect…
You need to be able to separate between a failure to execute on your ideas and ideas that are a failure.

And I think that most SW fans realize that the prequels are not without any merits. There is some really good subtext in those movies, some very well thought out parallels, and it did a great job expanding and exploring that universe (even if you dislike the creative decisions, like myself). I’ll even go so far as to say that they were all very well structured movies, and they worked together as a trilogy.

But those things alone don’t make a good movie IMO. My issues lie almost solely with execution; the dialogue, the direction, much of the acting, the creative choices, etc. These elements just prevent me from truly enjoying these movies.

And that’s coming from someone who learned to love Star Wars through the prequels. I had seen the original trilogy a few times, but it wasn’t until the prequels that I became a SW fanatic. And that then turned me into a film fanatic. But now, 17 years since the release of TPM, I am equally as passionate about the OT as I was about the prequel films which hooked me. And I can see now that the PT has flaws which I have trouble overlooking, and to me they no longer hold up.

I accept them for what they are and for the role they play in canon. And I even admit that the current EU is doing a great job of both establishing the transition and connections between the two trilogies. But to me they just aren’t very good movies. But that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy some of what they have to offer.

Cheers

I pretty much completely agree with you, very well said!
I just often see a lot of angry people who have a serious vendetta against these movies and incessantly hate on almost every aspect of them. To me if someone tries to do something for you, you should never then repay them with endless hate no matter the end result!

I’d hate anyone who fed me a diarrhea pie under false pretenses.

Ah that explains David Lynch in general and Mullholland Drive in particular.

Well, I don’t think there’s a lot of people who calls the films of David Lynch “secretly” brilliant.
There’s a huge difference between a film warranting analysis, and a film needing analysis.

Also films can be good without the plot being blatantly obvious (it just won’t appeal to everyone).
Also you could argue that maybe the PT is too obvious (for reasons that has already been discussed to death), and that that is why they’re so bad.

David Lynch’s films are simply awful. Nevertheless, he is a genius. Not in terms of film making but in terms of being able to convince so many idiots that his crap films are something special.

“Don’t embarrass yourself”

But seriously I’d assumed an “intellect” such as yourself could at least understand Lynch’s filmmaking.

Well it is because I understand them… people who don’t, just cannot see what they really are… a random crap.

Nice sentence. Even when I agree with you (in this case, that Lynch sucks) you’re annoying.

Almost all of the antonyms of intellect apply to ImpScum.

Just because you don’t like films that other people do doesn’t mean you should call them idiots. Grow up man.

You can certainly tell him to grow up but getting it through his thick skull is another matter entirely. I’m afraid I’m not the right man for that job.

I would rather have a modern day Ridley Scott direct ROTJ than Lucas. And that says a lot since I wasn’t really a fan of Prometheus.
